Current Location: Fairfax, VA Meet Eeyore: A Sweet, Gentle Soul with a Growing Confidence Eeyore is a 7 month old hound mix sweetheart! This curious and gentle pup loves cuddles and is quickly learning about the world around him. He's smart and making great progress with his training, showing just how capable and willing he is to learn. Personality and Energy Eeyore is a super sweet, gentle, playful pup who is generally relaxed but enjoys occasional play or short walks. He's content with light daily activity, making him adaptable to various lifestyles. He loves his chewy carrot toy, immediately loved his fluffy bed, and adores sitting by the window looking out at the world. Right now, he's also a big fan of ice cubes and his squeaky toys. Building Confidence Eeyore is curious but still shy and a little timid. All he needs is some calm, gentle encouragement to help his confidence grow. When he first arrived at his foster home, he was really scared of the outside stairs. Just a day later, his confidence had grown and he was going up and down most flights when going out for walks! This shows how quickly he can blossom with patience and support. Training and Intelligence Eeyore is very smart and is learning "sit." He's not super food motivated, but if you use a smelly treat like a roasted chicken stick, he pays more attention. Praise after doing something (like going up or down stairs or going potty) seems to make a real difference. He responds really well to correction and redirection, and he already knows "no." He's doing well with leash and crate training and is very good on a leash. He's not quite housetrained yet, but he's working on it and making progress with his smart, willing attitude. Housebroken? He’s working on his potty training and making great progress! Story: Beau is a happy little guy found on the streets of DC. After a week, no owners have responded, and so his finder/foster is looking for a good home. Beau is friendly with dogs and cats, and people. His foster doesn’t have children but he has been calm and happy around them on walks. He is absolutely delightful - he loves going on walks and playing with toys, people, and his resident dog brother. He is a smart cookie and picks up on potty training and basic commands super fast. Beau could go to a home with or without other pets. He’s an ideal age for continued socializing and adapting to probably any environment. He currently lives in a city apartment and is content, though he of course is happy trotting around outside in fields. Beau is a healthy and sturdy dog; basset caretakers do have to take special considerations to protect their backs including being careful about how rough and with whom they play, and using stairs instead of jumping off furniture. He is up to date on vaccinations and microchipped. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.Bella is about 10 years old, but certainly does not act her age! She has been in a loving home for almost 8 years, and is now in need of a home in which the owner is home more often. Bella has been through extensive training, and knows many commands including sit, stay, down, wait, touch, come, place, and crate.  She is house-trained, crate trained, and great on a leash. She is up to date on vetting and presently has a clean bill of health. She is great with people and children. She has only been around a baby once, and seemed reserved and a bit scared of her. The reason Bella was returned to our rescue is because of her anxiety when left alone for long periods of time. Several medications have been tried, but she may still bark when left alone in her crate. Her foster has one medication which does help her for 2 to 3 hours before she gets anxious. Given her owner moved into a townhouse, and works full time, this will not work with neighbors potentially hearing her barking.  Presently, Bella stays with one foster, and another one helps if the present foster is gone for a long day and evening. If you are interested in either being her long term foster or adopter, the foster that has her is willing to provide you with support or free boarding for anytime it is needed. This foster lives in Eastern Baltimore County area and says she is just the perfect loving companion for someone who is home most of the time.
