Story
When Irish eyes are smiling, does that mean they are happy? Or maybe they had too many pints at the pub? My eyes are smiling, and I am a non drinker, just want to have full disclosure here! Even though my eyes were smiling in these pictures. I was desperate for help for my little one, Lewis. You see, he was dying...full of internal and external parasites he really had no fight left in him and I knew it as his mother... so I used my Irish eyes to get us saved. AND IT WORKED!! Our lives are do amazing now, Lewis is alive and well after some very intense care, and ADOPTED INTO AN AMAZING HOME!!! I am not ever producing more babies, so it is all good! Now I get my turn for love, comfort and safety and a FOREVER HOME!! I am an adorable girl, about 50# of low-rider basset/heeler-ness. I am great with other dogs and like to play keep away! I am ready when you are, do your stuff so we can ride off into the sunset, in air conditioning, of course! Adoption application: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/GDR/Dog Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $400 (includes transport to your area)

Story
Please contact Paul Slebzak (pauls@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet shy boy seeking fresh start and love! MARTIN NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!  Come meet Martin and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (October 1st) from 12-3 pm at the Potomac Yard PetSmart in Alexandria (3351 Richmond Hwy, Alexandria, VA 22305)!   Name:    Martin       Best Guess for Breed:    Basset hound/shepherd mix   Best Guess for Age:  4 years as of February 2023       SEX:  Male   Approximate Weight:    47 lbs   Gets Along With:  Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats but he can be tested. Due to shyness, he is not recommended for a home with children under the age of 12.    Check out video at: https://youtu.be/Zqq2UGPMCc8 https://youtu.be/0GfSgzetLLM     Currently Living at:    DC area foster home!   Special adoption considerations: Martin is a truly Lucky Dog!  He tested positive for Heartworm disease but has already been treated! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites.  Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the screening process.   Additionally, Martin is shy and needs to go to a home with a welcoming resident dog to show him the ropes. Because of his shy personality, we do not recommend him for a home with children under the age of 12.   Martin is Looking For:  His forever family! This ultra-cute boy (pictures don't show how short his legs really are!) was surrendered because he wasn't a good hunting dog. That combined with him being heartworm positive at the time of surrender - well, that's a chapter best firmly closed. He has fully recovered from heartworm treatment and is eager to get his own humans. He's looking for have extra patient and loving adopters who will help show him a great new life at his pace and a welcoming resident dog who will show him what a good place he's in. Shelter staff say that even though he’s really scared in general, he’s friendly with other dogs and walks well on leash as long as he has another canine companion to keep him company. His ultimate goal is to trot through the world with all the confidence of a well-loved dog; his top priority is to know he's under his own roof, safe and loved, every time the sun goes down. In exchange he promises adoring gazes and loyal companionship and all the love he's saving up in the shelter.  What do you say? Will you be the one to give Martin the soft landing he so much deserves?  What My Foster Says About Me:   I've been waiting for Martin to be available to foster and I can say he is everything I thought he would be and more! He is very shy and unsure of the world but gets braver every single day. Loud, unexpected noises like a car backfiring or trucks on the road are super scary so he would not do well in a home in the city or where there is a lot of traffic. I live in an apartment building and he hasn't barked once yet! He is a perfect houseguest, sleeps silently in his crate, no accidents, and is starting to explore how much fun toys can be. One of the greatest joys in life is seeing a dog who is so scared of the world around them, start to come out of their shell and seek comfort from you. He has tried to initiate play with my dog, but he is so awkward and has no clue what to do so it's short lived. In time, I have no doubt he will be joining her in wrestling matches and zoomies around the apartment. During the day, Martin will usually curl up under my desk while I work from home, or will find a cozy corner to sleep during the day. He is not bothered by any dog, young or old, who he has met but is still learning to trust humans. While I've only been fostering him for a few days, I have seen huge strides in his progress and I can only imagine how he will be months from now when he is in his forever home.    Update 8/30/23: Martin is an A+ cuddler! Once he trusts you, he wants to be as close as possible and it's the cutest thing. He is doing so much better at the dog park and on walks. He is still scared of loud noises and won't approach people, but is getting more used to the regular people he sees at the park. Martin is a toy thief so beware, because he will hoard all his toys in his crate or on his bed but is happy to share anytime! It has been so wonderful to watch him get more and more comfortable in the house, seeing his little quirks and happy dances, and just being a dog!      Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. Story
Introducing Cadillac! Although he's not a new car, this pup might be your family's missing piece. He may be reserved and shy at first, but once Cadillac warms up to you, he'll be your closest companion. Cadillac does well around other dogs and loves gentle touches from humans. Being pet and doted on are some of his favorite things. Going on walks is an easy and fun way to bond with a new pet. Luckily, Cadillac adores walks and is leash-trained! Cadillac has gone through a significant life change. He will need lots of time to adjust to his new home, and patience is a must. So while Cadillac might not be a luxury vehicle, he will undoubtedly bring a little luxury (and lots of love!) into your home! For questions about Cadillac before the event, please contact dogs@lostdogrescue.org

CURLY Breed: beagle Age: 11 weeks Weight: 10 pounds Adoption Fee: $375 Vetting Status: neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccines, dewormed and maintained on heartworm preventatives ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ April showers bring... Three Stooges? Larry, Curly & Moe are a pint sized trio of beagle-tude, each ready to bring laughs as a solo act. The Stooges are 11 weeks old, crate trained, & working on their potty skills. They are super sweet, sassy, & smart. Larry is the brainy one. Curly the super social, kissy, big guy. Moe is the adorable, quiet wallflower... so somewhat the reverse of his more famous namesake. They will be ready for new homes in late April. We encourage you to submit an adoption application ASAP if interested, as we expect them to be adopted quickly!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CURLY is available for adoption through K-9 Rescue of the Eastern Shore. An adoption process is required to include filling out an online adoption application available at the following link -- https://www.k9rescuees.org/info/adoption Veterinary and personal reference checks, and a home visit/meet-n-greet are required PRIOR to being approved to adopt. The time frame for completing this process depends largely on how quickly references respond, your vet office is able to speak to us (some want written permission first), your landlord or HOA (if applicable) confirms their approval for a pet, & how your schedule aligns with that of our volunteer(s) for the Home Visit. ~~~~~~~~~~ PLEASE NOTE ~ All of our rescue members are volunteers with many obligations. While we may not be capable of immediate response, we will respond to all inquiries and application submissions as soon as possible. Thank you for thinking adoption!
