Story
Current Location: Fairfax, VA Meet Eeyore: A Sweet, Gentle Soul with a Growing Confidence Eeyore is a 7 month old hound mix sweetheart! This curious and gentle pup loves cuddles and is quickly learning about the world around him. He's smart and making great progress with his training, showing just how capable and willing he is to learn. Personality and Energy Eeyore is a super sweet, gentle, playful pup who is generally relaxed but enjoys occasional play or short walks. He's content with light daily activity, making him adaptable to various lifestyles. He loves his chewy carrot toy, immediately loved his fluffy bed, and adores sitting by the window looking out at the world. Right now, he's also a big fan of ice cubes and his squeaky toys. Building Confidence Eeyore is curious but still shy and a little timid. All he needs is some calm, gentle encouragement to help his confidence grow. When he first arrived at his foster home, he was really scared of the outside stairs. Just a day later, his confidence had grown and he was going up and down most flights when going out for walks! This shows how quickly he can blossom with patience and support. Training and Intelligence Eeyore is very smart and is learning "sit." He's not super food motivated, but if you use a smelly treat like a roasted chicken stick, he pays more attention. Praise after doing something (like going up or down stairs or going potty) seems to make a real difference. He responds really well to correction and redirection, and he already knows "no." He's doing well with leash and crate training and is very good on a leash. He's not quite housetrained yet, but he's working on it and making progress with his smart, willing attitude. Best Home Fit Eeyore needs a calm, patient home that will give him the gentle encouragement he needs to continue building his confidence. He would thrive with someone who appreciates his sweet, gentle nature and is willing to guide him as he learns about the world. If you're looking for a curious, loving companion who will reward your patience with growing confidence and devotion, Eeyore is waiting to meet you! Apply today!

Story
My step daughter adopted her as a puppy, but she has gone to college and I can't afford to keep her. She's good with cats, chickens, older kids, she should be watched with younger children, although had lived with them. She can be protective of the house and her people. She's been around livestock, she shows quite a bit of interest, but could be trained to ignore them I believe. She would do great in a farm type situation, especially where she could be a guardian. She can be bossy, and would do best with someone who understand bully and guarding breeds. She can be on the fence about other dogs. She's always lived with them, but introducing them can be tricky. She is highly trainable, is very affectionate, loves to cuddle and be next to you, bonds tightly with her people, and she has some anxiety that needs to worked on.

Adoption Fee Covered + Free Training! Thanks to a generous supporter, this pet's adoption fee is fully covered — and OPH is including six virtual training sessions with a certified trainer in the first 60 days to help you start off strong together! Meet Nora – The Pocket-Sized Cuddlebug with a Gentle Spirit Currently fostered in Silver Spring, MD With her beautiful chocolate and white coat, long silky ears, and soft eyes that speak volumes, Nora is the very picture of understated elegance. But don’t let her quiet arrival fool you - this sweet, shy girl is on a journey of transformation, and with the right person by her side, she’s bound to bloom. Nora is wary of men so would flourish in an all female household. Personality & Energy - Timid but loving – Nora is quite shy at first, as well as cautious around new situations and strangers. Once she warms up - she bonds very quickly, shows how big her heart is, and follows you everywhere! - Calm demeanor – She prefers short gentle activity or lounging close to her person. - Affectionate and clingy – She bonds deeply and wants nothing more than to be by your side (or on your lap if you let her!). Home Life & Compatibility - House-trained – Nora is doing great with regularly scheduled potty breaks and has a natural preference to potty outside. She will need continued training, she is very treat-motivated and responds well to positive reinforcement. She is eager to please her people! - Crate-trained... sort of – Nora tolerates the crate but would prefer not to be left alone. She settles much better when she’s near her people. At first, she welcomes the crate as her safe place, but as she becomes more acclimated to her new home, the less she wants to be crated. - Lap guardian – She may growl softly if another dog tries to interrupt her snuggle time. She’s not aggressive, just gently possessive. - Dogs – Nora enjoys the company of other dogs of all sizes with a similar demeanor. She occasionally runs zoomies but spends most of her time lounging by her humans. - Cats and kids – Unknown, but Nora would likely do best in an easygoing, quieter home with adults. Training & Growth - Learning Off, Stay, No, and responding well. Nora gently jumps on her people for attention. - Wants to please and will thrive with calm guidance and positive reinforcement. Very treat-motivated! - Still discovering toys and play - her inner puppy came out a few weeks into her foster home. Ideal Home Nora dreams of a peaceful life where she can tag along with her person, lounge in sunspots, and be the loyal little shadow she was born to be. Transitions can be a scary time, and she will need a patient family with a calm household who will give her time to feel safe and come out of her shell. She would not do well in an apartment or urban setting, and she would benefit from a home with a secure fence. She would also benefit from someone who is home more often than not, as she prefers not to be alone, but mostly she just wants someone patient and gentle who will let her unfold at her own pace. Nora is the kind of dog who shows devotion in the purest way — by never leaving your side. Whether walking from room to room or settling down to rest, she follows faithfully, a constant shadow of love and loyalty. Nora is looking for her forever family! Is that with you? Click "apply for adoption" to get your family started! Included Veterinary Care: - Up to date on vaccinations for her age - Spayed - Microchipped - Heartworm preventative - Flea and tick preventative - Worm/parasite treatments
