Please contact Sarah Maraschky (sarahm@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.CAN be fed after midnight! GIZMO NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!   Come meet Gizmo and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (Feb. 25th) from 12-3 pm at the Petsmart in Silver Spring (12020 Cherry Hill Rd., Silver Spring, MD 20904)!   Name:  Gizmo        Best Guess for Breed:  Basset hound and terrier mix Best Guess for Age:  2 years as of November 2023        SEX:  Male   Approximate Weight:   35 lbs   Gets Along With:   Other dogs! Gizmo lives with cats in his foster home and is doing great with them. Due to his shy personality, he may not go to a home with children under the age of 12.    Currently Living at:  DC area foster home.  Special adoption considerations: Because Gizmo is shy, he needs to go to a home with a confident, welcoming resident dog. Due to his shy personality, we do not recommend him for a home with children under the age of 12.   Gizmo is Looking For:  His forever home! Gizmo is so sweet and - just look at those short and stubby legs - he is incredibly cute! He would love to trot through the world with confidence, enjoying all the adventures his new humans can dream up! To get there, he needs extra patient and loving adopters who understand he has not gotten enough experience in new places yet, and a welcoming resident dog who can show him how to dog. Obedience school will help build his braves as well.  Gizmo most of all wants to know he is safe and loved and under his own roof for all his days. He has so much love and loyal companionship to offer in exchange. Best of all - he CAN be bathed and CAN be fed after midnight. What do you say? Does this sweet shy boy get his fresh start with you? What My Foster Says About Me: Gizmois very mellow, likes to run in the yard (AND MAN IS HE FAST), roll on his bed, he has the most HYSTERICAL little strut. He's doing very well. He had few accidents in the crate the first day which have been sorted out, and we have been accident free since. He did chew up one of the cats' favorite toys but you win some, you lose some. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. RIPTIDE NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!   Come meet Riptide and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (Feb. 25th) from 12-3 pm at the Petsmart in Silver Spring (12020 Cherry Hill Rd., Silver Spring, MD 20904)!   Name:   Riptide      Best Guess for Breed: Basset hound mix  Best Guess for Age:  1 year as of February 2024       SEX: Male   Approximate Weight:  25 lbs as of 2/3/24; he probably could stand to lose a couple   Gets Along With:  Riptide does well with other dogs and needs to go to a home with a welcoming resident dog. We haven't seen him with cats but he can be tested. Because he is shy, we do not recommend a home with children under the age of 12.    Currently Living at:  South Carolina shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get his freedom ride up here!   Special adoption considerations:   Because Riptide is shy, he needs to go to a home with a confident, welcoming resident dog. Due to his shy personality, we do not recommend him for a home with children under the age of 12.   Riptide is Looking For:  A new chapter with his own humans, where he gets to explore the world as a well-loved companion dog! He and his brother Wave were rescued from a hoarding situation. While they did not arrive at the shelter emaciated (Riptide probably could stand to lose a couple of pounds), they certainly haven't seen enough of the world and are, unsurprisingly, shy and scared in new environments right now. They need to split up and go off to their own homes with extra patient and loving adopters who will help show them the world at their pace, and with a welcoming resident dog who will show them how to dog. This adorable stubby legged cutie wants nothing more than to trot through the world with confidence, by his loving humans. He has a LOT of adoring gazes and tail wags and loyal companionship in him, all ready to bestow upon his humans. How about it - is that the deal you're seeking? What My Foster Says About Me:   We will update this once he has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with his foster. Gentle, Playful Girl with Little Legs & A Big Heart PONCHO NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!   Come meet Poncho and other great adoptable dogs this Saturday (Feb. 24th) from 12-2 pm at Unleashed by Petco in Arlington (5400 Langston Blvd., Arlington, VA 22207)! Name:  Poncho       Best Guess for Breed:  Basset hound and terrier mix    Best Guess for Age: 3 years as of November 2023        SEX:  Female   Approximate Weight:  25 lbs   Gets Along With:   Other dogs! Poncho currently lives with a cat and has kept a respectful distance, but we always recommend slow introductions. Due to her shy personality, she may not go to a home with children under the age of 12.    Currently Living at:  DC area foster home.  Special adoption considerations: Because Poncho is shy, she needs to go to a home with a confident, welcoming resident dog. Due to her shy personality, we do not recommend her for a home with children under the age of 12.   See this great video of Poncho! - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_GfBgoV230   About Poncho:  Poncho arrived at Lucky Dog with fear and uncertainty, but oh, how far she has come! Initially, she was a frightened and under-socialized soul, but with time and care, Poncho has grown more confident and curious. Every day is a new adventure for this resilient girl!   Velcro Dog Once Poncho warms up to you, get ready for a furry shadow! She transforms into a velcro dog, faithfully following her person around the house. Her loyalty knows no bounds, once she decides you're her human.    Playful Spirit Poncho is not just a velcro dog; she's a play enthusiast! Whether it's frolicking with other dogs, engaging with toys, or having fun with people, Poncho is all in. Watch out for her epic zoomies that can rival any hardcore sprinter—10 minutes of pure, unbridled joy, leaving her happily exhausted and breathing heavily.    Little Legs, Big Heart While Poncho might not be a marathon runner, her petite legs don't hold her back in the slightest. Stairs are conquered with boundless energy. She's a testament to the fact that size is no barrier to a big-hearted, spirited pup!  When the playtime is over, Poncho is content curling up for cozy naps on the couch. She is the perfect telework companion and will spend the day lounging peacefully nearby.    Still Building Her Braves Though she's made considerable progress in a short time, Poncho still carries a bit of anxiety and requires a patient and encouraging environment to reach her full potential. With love and understanding, she promises to be a loyal and loving addition to a home willing to nurture her journey.   Poncho's tale is one of resilience, love, and the promise of a bright future. Join her on this incredible journey and make her a cherished part of your family! Are you ready to welcome Poncho into your heart and home? What My Foster Says About Me: Gentle Poncho wasn't always treated nicely and was very nervous when she first arrived. She was unfamiliar with city sights and sounds as well as slow to trust. However, she's made incredible progress and loves her walkies now. She still takes a little while warming up to new people but once she does, she follows her person everywhere! Now that she’s comfortable in our home, she actively seeks attention from her favorite people. She has a silly personality and sometimes even hops around on her hind legs while flailing her front legs for attention. Neck scratches under her collar are her absolute favorite! While it took Poncho a little while to warm up to me, she was smitten with our two dogs immediately. I don't think she's met a stranger in another canine! She loves to play with other dogs… and toys… and with people. She just loves to PLAY! However when playtime is over, Poncho is polite and mellow in the house. When I telework, she spends the entire day lounging on the chaise in my office. When Poncho first arrived, she was too afraid to even go potty outside. However, she's eager to please and, once she understood what we wanted, she’s done incredibly well and hasn’t had an accident in weeks. She even goes to the back door or whines at us to tell us that she needs to go outside.  Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. Story
Isabel is looking for a hero. After being rescued from a hoarding situation, Isabel has no idea what it is like to live in a home, and she is very, very shy. She got the chance to go to a foster home for a long weekend, and her foster says that once Isabel got to know her, she was very silly, playful and puppyish when outdoors, but, she had never seen a tv, a microwave, or even a linoleum floor, so learning about the indoors is a work in progress. However, Isabel would love a home where someone is willing to be kind, gentle and patient with her. We have video to show you just how much fun this stubby-legged little dog can be, because, unfortunately, she is likely to hide from you when you come to visit. We know it is a tall order to consider adopting a dog who is so very shy, but we know Isabel is worth the investment of time and love, so if you are looking for a very sweet dog with very short legs, but a very big heart, you might be the hero Isabel is waiting for.
