Story
Meet Hudson This handsome boy found himself at a high kill shelter. With no one looking for him, he found himself on death row. We rescued him and brought him to our no kill shelter to give him time to find his forever home. He is a great young dog who now has his whole life ahead of him. Hudson is three years old. At some point, someone must have loved him because he is house-trained. He has excellent manners and is well-behaved. He walks easily on a leash and everyone at the shelter loves walking him. He is exceptionally handsome. Not sure what his breeds are, but our best guess is tri-color coonhound/beagle or basset mix. He only weighs 37 lbs. and is fully grown. He’s quiet and doesn’t bay or howl. He loves being with people and looks forward to getting out of his kennel. He doesn't love other dogs or cats. Although he wags his tail, is friendly to everyone and loves scratchies and pets, he seems sad and out of place. We can tell he doesn’t want to be in the shelter, and he longs for the peace and quiet of a loving home. We hope a forever person/family comes for him and gives him all his heart longs for. He will be a wonderful and loving companion. If interested in welcoming Hudson to your heart and home, please submit an application online at: www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org. On our homepage, please select “How To Adopt” to pull up our application form. Please email our shelter (smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net) if you submit an application. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out-of-state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship, nor do we transport them to their new homes. Adoption policies and application procedures are detailed at the shelter website: http://charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/ under tab All Adoptable Animals. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are either owner relinquished rescued from area Animal Controls or high kill shelters. The facility usually operates at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.

Story
Meet Josie Josie is a beautiful puppy we rescued from an open intake high kill shelter, along with her mom Daisy. Josie is a happy girl and has no idea that she nearly lost her life. This five-month-old hound mix puppy is full of life and love. She is always smiling and wagging her tail. She gets so excited when people play with her. She is very ENERGETIC and wants to be as close to you as she can get. She will love kids, but her enthusiasm could overwhelm small toddlers unsteady on their feet. Josie doesn’t have a mean bone in her body, but she has no idea of personal space right now. Lol! She is friendly, funny, out-going, and super sweet. She loves other dogs and is always looking for a playmate. A fenced yard will be a must to let her run her zoomies in safety. And she is already housetrained! Josie does well in a car and is up for adventures. Josie will be a wonderful hiking or running companion. Right now she weighs 20 lbs., but we expect her to top out at more like 40 gorgeous pounds of love. If looking for a wonderful puppy to welcome to your home and heart, this pup should be at the top of your list. Her mom Daisy is equally as sweet, so be sure to check out her profile as well. Get your application in for Josie at www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org. Please email our shelter (smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net) to make sure we received your application. Story
Meet Lilyann Lilyann is a beautiful, perfect four-year-old hound pup. Her family cannot keep her and have asked us to find her a loving home. She is a very special dog and will make for a wonderful family companion. Lilyann has a gorgeous red coat, warm brown eyes and a pretty face surrounded by long velvety ears. She is sweet, calm, friendly and gentle. She is shy at first but quickly warms up when she feels safe. She doesn’t bark much but when she does she has a precious hound bark (but she rarely uses it.) Lilyann has lived in a home with other dogs and is housetrained. She is good with people, but especially good with kids. Mom says she warms up to kids first. She loves them. She gets along great with dogs and cats. Mom says she is well-mannered and easy-going. She stays off the furniture unless she is invited up. She loves her blankets and dog bed on the floor. Sometimes she’ll sleep in a human bed but prefers her dog bed mostly. She loves to snuggle and if invited, she’ll lay her head in your lap. She loves to have her ears gently stroked. Lilyann is not overly energetic, but she loves playing with the other dogs in the home. She will need a fenced yard. She loves to run around or sun herself. She’ll spend hours in the sun just soaking it all in. She’ll come when she is called. She’s okay on a leash but definitely prefers having a yard. Mom says she loves treats and is actually a little chunky lol! She has been working to bring her weight down. She has been well cared for; although it was recently discovered that she has heartworms. Her mom has begun Lilyann's treatment. Through treatment Lilyann needs to be kept less active, but when she is through with treatment and receives a negative test, Lilyann will live full and healthy life. She's spayed. Lilyann is just precious and will be a wonderful family companion. She is living with her family until we can find her the perfect home. If interested in bringing this beauty to your heart and home and giving her a second chance, please get your application in. You can go to our website at www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org and fill out an application found on our homepage. Please email us at smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net to let us know. Our email can be a bit glitchy sometimes. Thank you!

Story
Meet Daisy Daisy is incredibly precious. Definitely a keeper! This beautiful hound mix girl and her daughter Josie were surrendered to an open intake high kill shelter once they were no longer useful to their owners. They both nearly lost their lives before we rescued them both and brought them to the safety of our no kill shelter. Despite her harsh treatment, Daisy is as sweet as they come. She has a pretty face filled with warm brown eyes and a laughing smile. She wags and wiggles so hard whenever she sees our staff and volunteers. She loves people. She’d do well with kids. She is friendly and outgoing. She makes our days brighter by her sheer force of good energy and hopeful vibes. She wants to be loved and to give love to whomever she sees. She gives hugs that melt your soul. She’ll put her face in your hand for some scratches and pets. She does great with other dogs, but she prefers a gentle introduction and approach until she can assess the other dog’s intentions. Completely understandable given how her owners used and abused her for breeding. She is house-trained. She is a good leash walker but can be a little pully when she gets excited. Some of this behavior will change once she is in a home and has some consistency in her life. She’s been neglected and is making up for lost time. A fenced yard will be a must. Daisy will love to have a safe place to run and sun. She travels well. She’d do great with another dog in the home, and we can test her with cats for potential adopters. She is easily one of the nicest dogs we’ve met. If you are looking for a wonderful dog to welcome into your life, your heart and home, Daisy should be at the top of your list. Get your application in for Daisy at www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org. Please email our shelter (smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net) to make sure we received your application. Story
Meet Bridget - At seven years old, Bridget is just beginning her journey of discovering what it truly means to be a dog. Rescued from a heartbreaking hoarding situation alongside dozens of other beagles, Bridget spent most of her life without the love, safety, and care every dog deserves. Now, she’s finally getting her chance. Bridget is a gentle, sensitive soul who is still learning to navigate the world around her. Everything is new - soft beds, kind hands, open spaces - and while it can feel overwhelming at times, she’s slowly starting to understand that she’s safe. Because of her past, Bridget is very anxious and is a flight risk, so she will need a secure, fenced-in yard where she can explore safely at her own pace. One thing that brings Bridget comfort is other dogs. She absolutely loves them and looks to them for reassurance, guidance, and confidence. A home with a calm, friendly dog would make all the difference in helping Bridget continue to grow and come out of her shell. With patience, understanding, and love, she will blossom in her own time. Watching her learn, trust, and experience joy for the first time is a truly special and rewarding experience. Bridget currently weighs about 22lbs., is approximately 7 years old (est. birth date 12/20/2018), and her adoption fee is $315. Bridget has been spayed, is up to date on all vaccinations & preventatives, and is microchipped. If you want to know more about Bridget, please complete a survey at https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/FKDS/Dog. After submitting a survey, an adoption counselor will contact you within 72 hours to give you more information about the dog you are interested in adopting and to arrange for you to meet. You must be at least 21 years of age to adopt.
