Ted is a handsome 4-year-old beagle who came to us from a hoarding situation. He is about 20 pounds and is an adorable guy with stout little legs. He is a timid little guy and needs some extra time to adjust in new surroundings. He will need some extra help with potty training. He is dog friendly. He is nervous at first but is starting to come out of his shell, showing his goofy and playful side! He's a typical mischievous beagle once he's comfy. Meet Winifred aka Winnie! This beautiful beagle is around 3-years-old and 20lbs. She came to us from a hoarding situation. Winifred can be nervous meeting new people, but once she's comfortable, shows her wild side! She's an energetic, playful, goofy girl who loves to zoom around. She is dog friendly, but can be a rough player, so would need some guidance. Winnie will need some extra help with potty training, due to her past living situation. She is looking for a patient home to allow her to decompress and adjust to a new way of life. She is looking for a home with prior beagle experience and a fenced yard.

Story
Meet Albert, the pup with the incredible ears—and an even more incredible personality! At 1.5 years old and 33 pounds, this Boxer mix is the definition of a best friend. Albert is a cuddly, loving companion who wants nothing more than to be by your side. He’s playful and full of life, always ready for tug-of-war, chasing tennis balls, munching sticks, or running laps around the yard. With his big heart and boundless energy, Albert will make a fun and active addition to a lucky forever home. Albert spent much of his first year in a shelter, but since joining his foster family he’s blossomed. He’s learning basic doggy manners, sleeps well in his crate, and is making steady progress with potty training. He’s smart, attentive, and eager to please—picking up new commands quickly. This sweet boy would do best in a home with a fully fenced yard in a calm neighborhood, where he can play safely and build confidence. He loves other dogs and would enjoy a canine friend, and because of his energy level, a home with children 10 and older is ideal. Story
Skip is a 1.5&#226&#128&#145year&#226&#128&#145old terrier–beagle mix who weighs about 25 pounds and brings a gentle, affectionate presence wherever he goes. He’s a naturally sweet dog who loves being close to his people, happily curling up beside them or following them from room to room. Though calm and easygoing, Skip still shows flashes of youthful energy and curiosity, reminding you that he’s just coming out of his puppy stage. He gets along beautifully with other dogs, is respectful of cats, and even coexists peacefully with caged birds. His patience with children—especially the toddler in his foster home—is remarkable, and he handles their unpredictable antics with quiet tolerance. Skip has made excellent progress with training; he’s gone two weeks without an accident, knows basic commands, and is very food&#226&#128&#145motivated. He’s also an unusually quiet dog who rarely barks. Skip can be shy when meeting new people, particularly men, but once he feels safe, he opens up into a warm, cuddly companion who loves attention and belly rubs. Because of his gentle nature and lingering puppy tendencies, he would thrive in a home with another friendly dog or an active family who can include him in their daily routines. Skip is a loving, adaptable dog who’s ready to become a cherished member of a family who appreciates his soft heart and sweet spirit. Story
Hello, my name is Leo and I’m an almost-2 year old “perfect little Beagle”. Once you meet me, you’ll understand why my foster family calls me that! At 22 lbs, I’m smaller than I look in my pictures! My foster mom thinks maybe I might have Jack Russel or some smaller breed in me, given my smaller size. I am almost 2 years old, so old enough to be past puppy shenanigans, but young enough to be a loving pet for a long time! I’m crate-trained and sleep soundly through the night — usually with my tongue adorably hanging out while snoozing. On weekends, if you sleep in a bit too long, I’ll politely let you know it’s time to wake up with the cutest little Beagle howl. I am house-trained. My foster mom says that any accidents have simply been from missing my subtle cue of sitting patiently by the door. I walk very nicely on a leash, though I’m not a big fan of snow on my paws, so maybe just shorter walks in the winter. Please remember, that I AM a beagle and I LOVE to sniff. So, I might pull if there is a bunny or a squirrel. For such a young guy, my foster mom say’s I’m very calm and chill, and that for a Beagle, I’m impressively quiet in the house. I don’t bark very often. I am affectionate and I want to be anywhere my humans are. I really like the teenagers at my foster home, and I’m very content to snooze at my foster mom’s feet as she works during the day. I am happy to be invited to snuggle on the couch with my humans to get pets, snuggles and belly rubs, and I give very gentle kisses of appreciation for the attention. My perfect home is with a family where someone is with me most of the time and can give me the affection I crave – like one with a stay at home parent, or a work from home person. I will quietly snooze while you work from home. I am good with kids, other dogs and even cats. My foster home has teens and I really like them – more humans to snuggle and pet me!! My foster home has 2 senior dogs and just can’t understand why they don’t want to play. So, I’d be happy in a home where I have a playful dog buddy or as your one-and-only to soak up ALL of your affection. If you have a fenced yard, that would be ideal. Beagles get on a scent and follow it anywhere. So, no off-leash play for me unless I’m in a fenced area. I know what toys are, and I really like the chew bones! Cats: Very respectful — no chasing or pestering Leash walking: Doing well, though cold weather has limited walks Personality: Sweet, gentle, affectionate Once I’m comfortable, I will do an adorable happy dance while waiting for my food at meal time. If you have other dogs who don’t finish theirs, I’ll politely waits for the other dogs to finish so I can “help” clean their bowls. Just apply to meet me. I'll be your most loyal and loving companion! Love, Leo Leo can be a little unsure at times, and we believe someone wasn’t very kind to him earlier in his short life. Despite that, he approaches new people with a wagging tail and a hopeful look. He’s gaining confidence every day and with continued kindness and love, he will quickly become your best buddy. Contact us today! Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative, 1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. An application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee adoption but does allow us to begin the review process. Please email adopt@safehavendogsIL.org for an application or additional details. Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed. Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant (adopter) for any reason.
