He’s got pep in his step and flap in his giant ears. However, it is very clear that he has been through some trauma in the last few years, which has resulted in resource guarding behavior around food-related items. He also sometimes needs his space and requires that his people pet him only when he asks for attention. The good news? He shows none of this behavior toward other dogs and his triggers can be managed with some careful set-up of his environment. The better news? Benny has been working on learning new behaviors with the help of a professional trainer. He will continue to need reinforcement of these new behaviors in his new home. Benny needs to go to a home with adults only. Not because he doesn’t like kids, but because kids have a harder time with following the systems required to keep everyone safe. He would be happy with or without furry siblings and has lived with dogs, a cat, and a rabbit. This sweet boy hasn’t met a human yet who he doesn’t immediately think is his new best friend! He’s the kind of dog who makes you feel like you’ve been best friends forever! Champ is a retired hunting beagle who was lovingly surrendered when his owner began experiencing health issues. He was well cared for and described as being good with children and other dogs. His experience with cats is unknown. His former owner also shared that Champ is fast and strong and would take off if given the opportunity, so he should not be allowed off leash in an unsecured area. Because of this, his forever family will need a secure, fenced-in backyard where he can safely enjoy his beagle adventures. After spending much of his early life in a kennel environment, Champ is adjusting to home life and has discovered how much he loves being with his people. He can experience some separation anxiety and would always prefer snuggling with his humans than sleeping in his crate at night. Hi, my name is Charlie. I'm a 4 year old, 48 pound beagle! I could stand to lose a few pounds, but I am solid! I was rescued from a place where I wasn't treated very good. A nice young lady contacted Project Hope to see if they would take me. Now I'm safe in my foster home and I'm ready to find my furever home where I will be treated good!My foster mom said I'm what you call a counter surfer, but I can't help it. It smelled so good, and I am a beagle with a good smeller, but I listen when she says off! I am very good when you are eating your meal. I just lay down and sleep until you are done eating!I get along with all dogs and cats. I would be good with children. I'm not a big barker. I like going for walks, and going for rides in the car. I do zoomies once in awhile, A fenced in yard is required since I like to follow my nose. I like being with my person and getting belly rubs and laying beside them when they watch TV. I don't like being crated, but I do settle down, but I'm good not being crated. I'm doing good on potty training. Cleo is a petite, energetic ball of Beagle fun! Cleo weighs about 15 pounds and is about a year old. She's mischievous (in a good, Beagle way), likes going on walks, and loves playing with her friends. She likes to explore the world around her so she would do best with a fenced in yard. She gets along great with cats and dogs and can't wait for a family of her very own to snuggle up with and go on adventures with. I entered my Obedience training program on Oct 16th and will graduate and be ready for my forever home on Dec 18th.
