Hi, my name is Barry and I am from Alabama!
Barry’s life started with a really unfair set of cards. He came from a hoarding situation where he never got the chance to learn what safety, love, or being a dog was supposed to feel like.
But he’s been learning…
Watching him discover the world has been incredibly special. He can now walk on a leash. He greets people. He absolutely loves other dogs. He also goes into his crate, even though it can make him nervous. These may seem like little things, but for him, they are enormous victories.
He needs a very special home. A home that understands trust takes time. Someone who will sit beside him when he’s scared, celebrate every tiny breakthrough, and never give up on him. Because underneath the fear is a dog who is finally learning that he is safe.
I am currently being treated for heartworm disease. Heartworm is not contagious so your resident pets are not at risk! The treatment for this is 3-4 months long and requires a minimum of 3 appointments and strict rest/restricted activity. My adoption can take place during treatment, while TBB manages the financial responsibility of my heartworm treatment at The Bond Between Vet Center. Any other medical care needed outside of the specific care covered in the contract disclaimer, would be the responsibility of my new family.
From the Vet:
Barry has been staged for HW Disease and he shows mild lung changes that present as a persistent cough/throat irritation. He should be kept on a strict low activity protocol until after his heartworm treatment.
When he came to us, he was noted to have a significant leg deformity, however at his evaluation exam, it was determined that while deformed, he uses the leg very regularly and happily. He doesn't seem to be in an major pain associated with this at the moment, so monitoring and keeping him at a lean weight as to not cause any excessive strain in his joints, and possibly adding a joint supplement will be important for his comfort as he ages.
His skin isn't in the best health, but with good nutrition, flea prevention monthly and regular bathing, we hope this will improve.
We are treating for an ear infection, but hopefully we can say that has cleared by the time this boy gets adopted! If adopted before his ear recheck, TBB will include 1 ear recheck + 1 round of medications or allergy injection as determined necessary by the BB Rescue Medical Team.
He's a special guy needing some time and TLC, but he is so sweet and would be a perfect companion in any home willing to give him those things!
