Story
Looking for an adventurous new friend!!! Oliver likes to go by Ollie. He just turned 9 years old. We have had him since he was a puppy. He loves to be outside and going on adventures. He loves hiking, running & swimming. We are looking for a new owner who is adventurous and has time to do all of Ollie's favorite things. Unfortunately, we can no longer provide him the attention is is requesting from us. We have also expanded our family so we don't go on adventures much anymore due to the babies. Ollie loves cuddles and being around people. He does not like to be crated at all. He is completely house trained.

Story
Brian is a 2-3 year old neutered male Beagle.  Brian loves toys and other dogs. He is housebroken and crate trained. Brian is currently in a foster home until 4/7 - then he will be at the Orleans Correctional Facility until June for Path to Home Training. Volunteers For Animals and Orleans Correctional Facility have developed a Dog Training & Fostering Program within the prison that will provide socialization and basic obedience training for the dogs before being adopted. Volunteers For Animals will be pulling dogs from high kill shelters and locally who may be in need of behavioral support to become more adoptable. The dogs will then be transported to Orleans Correctional Facility where they will live with selected inmates who will care for them 24 hours per day for approximately 8 weeks. Each dog will have a crate, bedding, leash, collar, training treats, and food provided by Volunteers For Animals. A certified dog trainer will provide weekly training classes for the dogs and the inmates. The inmates will then work daily to reinforce the formal training with the dogs. Adoption Procedures The adoption process includes an application that is completed by the potential owner. If there are multiple applications on the same animal, the animal will go to the best home for that particular animal - not necessarily the first application. Fees for the Path to Home animals are $200 per animal which needs to be cash or a check - NO CREDIT CARDS. All of the dogs are current on vaccines, heart worm tested and spayed/neutered. If you would like to be considered for any of the Path to Home dogs, please email us. Please do not call the Shelter regarding Path to Home animals - they do not have any information. Email us at info@vol4animals.org regarding this program.  Here is the adoption process:   To adopt an animal you must complete an application and be approved. There is a $60 fee for any animal which needs to be cash or a check - NO CREDIT CARDS. If the animal is not spayed or neutered, there is a $35 deposit which will be returned upon proof of surgery. All dogs must be licensed before leaving the Shelter. Please note that public offices that issue dog licenses are not open on Saturdays and Sundays. All cats must leave in a carrier.   Thank you for considering a homeless animal.April 6, 2025, 1:52 pm

Story
Jolene was born around June 24, 2022 and weighs about 20-25 pounds.  Jolene came to us from Kentucky with the one hour at a time volunteer transport team and a very kind overnight foster person.  Everyone along the way adored her as we do now! Jolene did have a home in Kentucky with the town drunk and he tossed her out the front door and said he "wanted her gone".  A kind neighbor called her over and kept her until she could get her into the hands of another kind person and then she, tearfully, loaded her in the first transport car to come here to us.  She is very sweet and affectionate and really loves to be carried (good thing she's little) and snuggled with and have her belly rubbed.  Jolene rides well in the car and LOVES to wrestle, play, run, with other dogs and she does need another fun playmate in her next life and a large enough, physically fenced, safe area in which they can release the energy she has.   She is also a very good swimmer.  This is all we know so far and we will be learning as we go!  The Adoption Fee for this dog is $500.00 Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. In general our fees include spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccines, Home Again micro-chipping & registration, worming & flea control - a "complete" pet. We accept CASH or Visa/Mastercard ONLY.    Joyful Rescues has no funding except for our adoption fees and miscellaneous donations. Pet care and vet bills are expensive - you must be ready to take on this financial (as well as emotional) responsibility. YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 25 YEARS OF AGE TO ADOPT A DOG FROM JOYFUL RESCUES   We keep our pet list as up-to-date as possible. As soon as a pet is adopted, it is removed from the list. If a pet is still showing, it is still available for adoption.   Can't Adopt Me?  SPONSOR ME Look for the Link "Special Instructions to Seller" if you want to note a particular pet Before you seek to adopt a pet from Joyful Rescues, please read our Pet Adoption page http://www.joyfulrescues.org/pet_adoption.html. Story
Rex was born around March 31, 2022 and weighs about 50 pounds.  Rex is with us because his humans gained custody of a special needs child and it was decided that finding Rex a new home was in his (Rex's) best interest.  Rex is wonderful with cats and other dogs and is the sweetest boy ever.   Rex is a teensy bit shy at first but within minutes he is a wiggly, adorable, goof, who wants to snuggle and play.  Rex loves car rides and walks nicely on a leash with some pulling at first.  Rex was purchased from a shady pet store which is now out of business.  They sold Rex as a Collie Shepherd mix but we are struggling with that.  We feel he's more of a Beagle mix of some sort.  He is gorgeous black and white along with rusty red markings that reminds of Bernice Mountain Dogs!  Rex is the kind of dog that will hang with you outside, off leash, while you do your chores or are playing with him - once he is adjusted and knows he lives there.    Rex doesn't mind baths and he is enjoying our pond.  Rex is nicely house trained.  Rex was with a family that raised him from a pup with a special needs child, but the child was causing him physical and mental discomfort.  For this reason Rex would truly prefer an adult only home. Please help us find this home for the adorable Rex!   The Adoption Fee for this dog is $500.00 Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. In general our fees include spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccines, Home Again micro-chipping & registration, worming & flea control - a 'complete' pet. We accept CASH or Visa/Mastercard ONLY.    Joyful Rescues has no funding except for our adoption fees and miscellaneous donations.
