Story
Adoption Donation   $ 499    Located in: RI (Transportation costs to the Northeast included, please ask for more details) Age: Approximately 3 years old Weight: 23 pounds Harriet lived on the streets of a small town in Mississippi until she was trapped a few months ago. It's clear that humans have failed her and been unkind.  She has made strides in foster care, however, she may always be cautious and a tad fearful of strangers. She comes up for pets but is quick to jump back if you move too fast. Harriet needs a secure fenced yard as she is a flight risk and fearful of so many things. She shouldn't have access to the front door in case she decides to bolt.   Having said all this, Harriet is a good girl and gentle. She doesn’t have a mean bone in her body. She’s also house trained, crate trained, utd on vetting, good with other dogs & cats. She’s silly, playful and a funny little girl. Harriet's furever home must have a 6 foot fenced yard, and her adopter should be experienced with fearful dogs. ADULT ONLY HOME NEEDED,    If you are interested in adopting me, please fill out an application on our website  www.fohari.org  and email my foster parent for more information:  foster.adopt.repeat.2021@gmail.com Please verify the location and readiness of this dog with us.  Because we save lives from various locations through out the United States, some dogs may not be in New England yet, nor ready for immediate adoption.   Our adoption application can be found here: https://fohari.org/application/  Our Adoption Process:   Go to our website and select the animal you are interested in. ALL animals are in foster homes as we do NOT have a  shelter where you can visit. Some animals are in foster care in New England, and some are located in other states. If the initials following the animals name are a state, then that is the state where the animal is located. If initials are not a state, then those are the initials of the foster home outside of New England and you will not be able to meet the animal ahead of time. Complete our online application You will be contacted by phone or email by the foster parent  or a member of our adoption team and will have the opportunity to find out more about the animal, and ask any questions that you have to ensure the animal is a good fit for your household. If the animal is local, you can meet the animal, but you would not be able to take the dog home until you are approved to adopt. If you feel comfortable that the animal is a good fit for your home, at this point, you would submit a sum of $200 as a partial payment of the adoption fee as we process your application. From our end, we will check references and schedule a home visit. If you are not approved to adopt, any payment sent to us would be promptly returned in full. At this point, we will remove the animal from our adoption sites and hold the animal for you while we check your references. If you live in an apartment, or a condo, we will need to verify permission to own the animal from your landlord or condo board. Please let your vet’s office and references know we will be contacting them. If your  references are positive, we will schedule a home visit by a volunteer. Please try to accommodate the home visit volunteer as most  have busy schedules. Delays in the visit will result in a delay in the adoption. Once you are approved, you will receive an e-mail with your  adoption contract attached. This e-mail will have details about pick up, the balance of the adoption fee that is owed, etc. Please email your signed & witnessed contract and pay your adoption fee in full, and for any animals located out of state, you will be contacted for details about transport to New England. Once you have paid your adoption fee in full and sent back your contract, you can make arrangement to pick up your animal from the foster home or from transport depending on where the animal is located. Please bring a harness, collar, ID tag and leash when you are picking up the dog unless otherwise instructed by the foster parent. Our extensive approval process is intended to ensure the best fit between our animals and adopters. Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA) reserves the right to deny any adoption application with or without disclosure of cause. Your adoption fee helps to cover the cost of all age appropriate vetting and transportation. FOHARI.ORG makes no explicit or implicit guarantees in reference to the health, temperament and/or the breed of the animal. The animal is adopted ‘as is’, and the adopter assumes all responsibility for treatment of any and all existing conditions or any other conditions of physical or temperament changes that may occur. FOHARI.ORG will provide the animal with the basic vaccines, heart worm test and sterilization of dogs and cats before adoption if the age and current health of the animal permits. While FOHARI.ORG makes every effort to place only healthy animals, FOHARI.ORG cannot guarantee the health of any animal, and shall not be held responsible for any medical expenses that may be incurred. Rescuer will provide information received from the veterinarian exam, observations on the temperament of the animal and a best guess of the breed. Friends of Homeless Animals Inc. Story
To apply to adopt this dog now, complete our adoption application  HERE To see our upcoming events where you can meet some of our dogs, please see  HERE Age: 6 months (as of 04/01/24) Weight: 23 lbs (as of 04/10/24) Location: RI Leo is available for adoption to Massachusetts residents, as well as those in the other New England states.   This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped.   Meet Leo, a bundle of joy with a wagging tail that never stops and a heart full of love! This affectionate little guy is on a quest to find his forever home after his previous owner found themselves with too many furry friends to care for. He likes meeting new people!  He loves other dogs and quickly matches their play style, and we don't yet know how he is with cats. Large groups of dogs can be overwhelming for him. He prefers to have one or two play buddies at a time.  Leo is a smart dude that is house trained with regular trips outside. He walks pretty good on the leash and would love to join you on a walk or hike so her can get more practice! He is currently using a crate but does best in it when his human is in sight.  With his eager-to-please attitude and sharp mind, Leo is a prime candidate for puppy classes. He's ready to soak up all the knowledge and skills that come his way, making him an ideal companion for someone looking to embark on a fun and rewarding training journey. If you're searching for a loyal companion who will shower you with love and companionship, look no further than Leo. With his enthusiasm for life and heart of gold, he's ready to fill your home with happiness and tail wags galore. Don't miss out on the opportunity to make Leo a cherished member of your family today! Medical Note:  This dog is being treated/has been treated for demodectic mange, a non-contagious skin condition. The dog has responded well to this treatment and is ready for adoption, though may still have some bald patches and/or thin fur in places.  Please note that demodex can flare up in any dog in times of stress (eg, transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months after adoption for adults or until 18 months of age for puppies.  Please see here for more information on demodectic mange and talk with your Adoption Counselor about this condition.   Medical Note:  Slight under bite. At the time of adoption, no gum or soft palate trauma, nor discomfort with or effect on eating/chewing is noticed; no treatment is recommended at this time.  As the dog is a growing/developing puppy, this could change and change quickly.  Adopter should do regular checks of the mouth weekly to see if there is any trauma occurring.  Comfort and ability to eat are going to be the main observation points, but the adopter should also look closely for damage to the gums/palate.  If any concerns, exam by an oral specialist is recommended as they are best equipped to recommend the care and timeline that would benefit the individual the most.  If intervention is required, growth and facial development should be relatively complete. Please check with your vet if you have any questions or concerns about this medical history. An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see  HERE  for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: www.sosarl.org/aa/ **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor. April 29, 2024, 10:37 pm

To apply to adopt this dog now, complete our adoption application  HERE To see our upcoming events where you can meet some of our dogs, please see  HERE Age: ~ 14 years (as of 6/30/23) Weight: 25 lbs (as of 3/29/24) Location: RI   This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped.   Meet Chip, a gentle and loving soul. Despite her advanced years, she exudes a quiet strength and resilience that is truly admirable. Chip's world may be silent and dim due to her limited sight and hearing, but her heart is as open and vibrant as ever. She navigates her environment with a serene calmness, her shy nature only adding to her endearing personality. This sweet girl is a testament to the power of love and patience. She is house trained and will stand or pace by door if she wants to go out but does best with a doggy door. Chip has advanced cataracts, is nearly blind and cannot go up and down steps or stairs. She is also nearly deaf. Her favorite thing is to lay in her pet bed. Chip's even-tempered nature makes her an ideal companion for those seeking a peaceful, low-energy pet. She's longing for a forever home where she can spend her golden years surrounded by warmth and affection. Adopt Chip and let her show you the beauty of life through her unique perspective. Chip's Story: Has always been inside dog with elderly owner who passed. Medical Note:  This dog is being treated/has been treated for demodectic mange, a non-contagious skin condition.
