Story
Meet Vance — A true head-turner with a heart as big as his paws! This 1-year-old neutered male Beauceron/Shepherd mix is a striking sight at 57 pounds and promises to be a magnificent adult when fully mature. He arrived at Mesquite Animal Shelter on 12/6 as a stray and has charmed everyone with his happy, easy-going spirit. Vance is endlessly curious, exploring every inch of his surroundings with a wagging tail that rarely takes a break. He’s highly treat-motivated and shows off his eagerness by giving a little hop before sitting politely for his reward. Friendly, well-mannered, and affectionate, his gentle nature shines through in every interaction. This big-hearted boy may already be housetrained and can pull a bit on a leash with excitement. He hasn’t shown much interest in other dogs. Vance is searching for a rescue partner. His combination of intelligence, sweetness, and striking presence makes him an outstanding candidate for adoption or foster placement. Let’s work together to give Vance the second chance he deserves—he’s ready to thrive in a loving, attentive home!

Story
A soulful six-year-old Doberman Pinscher mix currently in Chicago, IL, Winnie is a 40-pound girl with a tricolor coat, expressive eyes, and a calm presence indoors. She loves cozy afternoons, warm sunny spots, belly rubs, and quiet companionship, and she has a gentle way of making home feel peaceful. Winnie is affectionate, smart, and well trained. She knows sit, stay, down, come, shake, and off, and she is crate-trained, house-trained, and comfortable spending time on her own. She bonds closely with the people she trusts, tends to feel most at ease around women, and enjoys the simple routines of daily life. Winnie needs a patient, experienced pet parent who can provide a calm, structured environment and thoughtful introductions. She can growl at strangers and needs continued training and behavior support to help her navigate situations that make her uncomfortable. She can feel overwhelmed by unfamiliar people entering her space and does best when interactions happen slowly and on her terms. Her next family should understand her full bite history, including a few earlier incidents over the years and a more recent serious bite that required medical attention. Triggers include unfamiliar men, people bending down or reaching toward the floor around her, busy or high-stimulation environments, and her strong prey drive toward small animals. Adopters should also be aware that her most recent bite occurred with no warning signals beforehand. She also has a strong prey drive and can become overstimulated in busy environments. On a short, quiet sidewalk walk, Winnie can be steady and lovely. In crowded parks or high-traffic settings with lots of dogs, people, and small animals, she has a much harder time settling. She is only neutral with larger dogs following careful introductions and is not compatible with small dogs. Because of her prey drive, she needs a home with no cats and no small pets or animals. Winnie requires a securely fenced yard and would do best in a private rural or farm-like setting with space to decompress and no immediate neighbors. She needs an adult-only, child-free home with an adopter experienced in behavior management who is committed to working with a behaviorist and continuing positive reinforcement-based support. Winnie currently receives 30 mg of Fluoxetine daily to support her behavior needs, and the effectiveness of this medication is currently under review. For the right person, Winnie is a loyal, loving, and deeply comforting companion with so much to give. If you are someone who understands that some dogs need a quieter world and a thoughtful approach, Winnie may be the companion you have been looking for. Story
Meet Jasper! A soulful three-and-a-half-year-old Border Collie/Rottweiler mix currently in Colorado Springs, CO, whose calm, loving heart is wrapped in a stunning 70-pound merle coat. With the gentle spirit of a wise old friend and the quiet loyalty of a true companion, Jasper is the kind of dog who will melt into your side on a cozy evening and follow you room to room just to be close. Jasper thrives in peaceful surroundings and forms deep, meaningful bonds with his people. He does well around children and enjoys their company, but he would do best with calm or older kids who understand boundaries and know how to treat him gently. Loud or high-energy play can make him uneasy, so a respectful home environment will help him feel safe and content. He’s a mellow guy who doesn’t need much to be happy: a soft spot to relax, the comforting presence of his caregiver, and maybe a treat puzzle or two to keep his brain engaged. Food-motivated and clever, Jasper knows a delightful list of commands like sit, stay, paw, spin, and even “middle”, a trick that’s as cute as it sounds! He’s fully house-trained, crate-trained, and perfectly content when left alone, making him a great match for someone who works from home or has a flexible schedule. While Jasper doesn’t require intense exercise, he does enjoy slow, sniffy walks where he can take in the world at his own pace. His favorite pastime? Being in the same room as you, soaking up your presence like sunshine! After being involved in two traumatic incidents with unfamiliar dogs, one when he was a puppy and another more recently, Jasper has developed a strong reactivity to dogs he doesn't know. He may bark or lunge when he sees them, especially near fences or in close proximity, and he continues to work through that with training and patient support. That said, he’s done well with familiar dogs in controlled settings, showing that he can feel safe with the right structure and trust. He’s happiest in a home with a fenced-in yard and a caregiver who values companionship, consistency, and quiet. Loud noises can startle him, but with reassurance, he settles easily. Jasper isn’t just a dog, he’s a constant companion, a quiet presence, and a gentle soul waiting for someone to see the beauty in his sensitive heart. If you’re seeking a loyal, low-key friend who will return your care with quiet affection and soulful eyes, Jasper may just be the one waiting to share your next chapter!
