Story
Meet Malcolm! He’s a strikingly handsome 10-month-old, 50-pound Beauceron/Rottweiler mix with a hint of Cattle Dog. He arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 12/29 as a stray and has the sweetest, most loving personality. He walks beautifully on a leash, knows the sit command, and takes treats gently. It’s likely he had a family before, but sadly no one has come for him. He happily comes over for pets, hugs, and kisses, and his soft, fluffy fur makes him even more irresistible. When other dogs pass by, he wags his tail and barks, maybe hoping to play. If there’s another dog in the household, the shelter recommends a dog test. Malcolm would love a secure yard to play in, but more than anything, he wants to be indoors snuggled up with his people. It’s easy to see what a wonderful companion he’d be—he’s already stolen our hearts, and he’s sure to steal yours too.

Story
Vance is an absolutely striking Beauceron/Shepherd mix with a happy easy-going personality. He’s 10 months old and still growing. He’s a big boy at 57 pounds. He arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 12/6 as a stray. Vance is curious and investigates his surroundings thoroughly. His tail is in constant wagging. He is highly motivated by treats, and when offered one he first jumps up before he sits. He does not jump on you. He’s friendly, well mannered, and affectionate. He may be housetrained. He walks OK on a leash. He hasn`t show any interest in other dogs, yet please ask the shelter for a dog test if you have another pup in the home. This gentle giant will need a secured yard to investigate and to live indoors where he can be close to his human companions.

These pups are in McKinney, Texas too!

Story
Duchess was in a small, high-kill shelter when we came across her information. Her eyes were so infected that she could not open them, and the shelter had posted her as being blind. Our vet discovered that Duchess doesn’t produce tears, and the chronic dry eye had been untreated for so long that her corneas were damaged and infected. This sweet girl was initially so shut down that she had to remind herself what a special dog she is. We are trying our best to save her eyes; she gets two types of medicated drops twice a day and artificial tears as often as possible. She has learned to let her foster clean her eyes and is good about getting her drops. She is now able to see, although not as well as we hope she will as we progress. She will need eye drops ongoing. Duchess now plays with the other dogs in her foster home and enjoys running around her yard. Her very favorite thing is getting attention and spending time with her humans. She wants to devote herself entirely to her family and take care of them. This girl is a wonderful Doberman and an ambassador for the breed. She is house trained, can use a doggie door, or ask to go outside if she doesn't have one. She is fine being left home alone or with her canine friends, but would rather go wherever her human is going. She’s great at going for rides and would be the perfect travel companion. Duchess is fully vetted, current with vaccines, spayed, on flea and tick prevention, heartworm prevention, and is microchipped.

Story
Cash came to the rescue when the shelter sent him to have his fractured leg amputated at our vet clinic. He had been shot, and we have no idea of the other abuse he had suffered, but he is initially afraid of new men (fine once he learns they mean him no harm). While he is not an aggressive boy, he acts as if he could tear into someone, which can be off-putting. He is fine with women, loving, outgoing, and cuddly, especially with his foster mom. We are helping him work onhis fear, which can/will be resolved with patience and TLC.Cash lives with lots of other dogs and gets along with everyone, large and small. He is playful and happy, can be as gentle or rough as needed, depending on who he is playing with. He walks fine on a leash and is good at going for rides when he gets a chance. He is crate trained and asks to go out if needed between potty breaks. He generally has good house manners, except when he counter-surfs for food when the opportunity presents itself.Cash is fully vetted, current with vaccines, neutered, microchipped, and on flea and tick, as well as heartworm, prevention.
