Story
Murphy – 3 years old male I met Murphy through the kennel door, and it was clear he was scared. But with a little encouragement, he found his courage, came right up to me, and gave me kisses. Murphy has the sweetest soul, and he deserves a far better start to life than he’s had so far. This gentle boy is ready for someone to show him what love and safety truly mean.   He is HW+, but you can foster to adopt , which means the dog stays with you until treatment is completed and they are cleared, at no extra cost to you. The dog comes off the adoption website once you are signed up for the foster to adopt program, or you can choose to go ahead and adopt, which at that point you are responsible for taking care of the treatment and the cost of the treatment Call the shelter at 972-744-4480 or email AskRichardsonAnimalServices@cor.gov to learn more.March 7, 2026, 12:25 pm

Story
Meet the always hungry Smokey but I call him Smoke Dawg. He is a 4-year-old 65 lb Rottweiler, with a tank-like body and a lovable demeanor. I got Smokey from a relative three weeks ago to give him a good life until I can rehome him. Smokey's life up until this point hasn't been the best. His first owners were abusive and the family member I got him from neglected his health. When I got him and took him to the vet, he was diagnosed with hook worms, whip worms, heart worms, and had an infected patch of skin on his back while also being tick and flea infested and hadn't been bathed in years. He also has weak back legs that buckle and the therapist believes he either has hip dysplasia or tore both ACLs at some point and never got to heal properly. Since getting him, he's been given all of his vaccinations, been microchipped, treated for his GI worms, started on his heartworm treatment, treated for his flea and ticks and been given preventative, given a steroid for his infected skin, and given an immunosuppressant for his constant scratching. He would often times scratch until he bled and not sleep. He has since improved drastically and is much more energetic and stronger. He's such a fighter. Smokey is a calm yet playful pup who loves to wrestle, go on walks, bark at random things passing by, and most of all, eat. Smokey is one to always beg for food and will eat just about anything in front of him. He/she gets along with dogs but cats are unknown and currently lives with Indy, my other dog. He doesn’t have much history with other animals aside from Indy and they get along well even if he eats all her snacks she tries to save for later. Smokey likes to cuddle up with his humans and play fight until he’s tired. Hint: playing with him gets him to go potty. An ideal home for Smokey would be one with a yard for him to run around in and toys to chew on. He’s a big chewer and loves a good bone or piece of rough clothing. Smokey, at his heart, is an outside dog best suited for a backyard to laze around in. He does well inside but can get restless and make a bit of a mess so beware. Smokey is crate trained but will bark until he tires and then sleep all day, leash trained but sometimes like to hunker down to finish sniffing, and house trained but will mark every now and then if left unsupervised, and knows Sit, Gimme Paw, and Catch. I’m currently teaching how to give his other paw and lay down. He is one smart pup! Smokey loves car rides and to let the wind blow through his jowls. He also loves just about any treat you give him. He is not picky unless it’s vegetables! He’s a machine. Oh, also, the cutest thing he does is walk in circles around you and make deep grunting noises out of excitement when you're home. This adorable pup is deserving of the perfect furever home. Could it be with you? Apply to adopt Smokey today! This pet is participating in the Dallas Pets Alive rehoming program. Story
Athena is a 4‑year‑old dog who is both house‑trained and crate‑trained. She is treat‑motivated and knows several commands, including sit, lay down, and stay. She can be territorial with her toys and collar, and she tends to pull ahead on the leash. Athena completed an extensive obedience training program that improved many behaviors, though she may still snap on occasion. With continued structure, these behaviors can keep improving, but we are unable to maintain the level of training she needs. She has never bitten anyone or any dog.Athena is very protective of her family and can become reactive during vet visits. As a COVID‑era dog, she has had limited socialization. She is energetic, curious, and thrives with space, activity, and patience. We can no longer provide the time and engagement she deserves, and we hope to find her a loving home where she can continue to grow and feel supported.

Story
Meet Winnie! A gentle six-year-old Doberman Pinscher mix currently in Evanston, IL, whose tricolor coat and soulful eyes tell a story of cozy afternoons and quiet companionship. At around 40 pounds, she is a medium-sized girl who has perfected the art of relaxation, often found curled up in her dog bed or basking in a sunny spot like it is her full-time job. Winnie brings a calm, easygoing presence to daily life, with little bursts of playful energy that make her love for tennis balls and squeaky toys shine! She is wonderfully trained and eager to connect with her people, already knowing commands like sit, stay, down, come, shake, and off. She is crate-trained, house-trained, and comfortable spending long periods on her own, making her a steady and predictable companion. This lovely girl thrives on routine, belly rubs, and peaceful environments. Winnie is especially affectionate with the people she knows and trusts, and she tends to feel more at ease around women. She is compatible with other dogs in a neutral, easygoing way, happily coexisting without needing constant interaction. However, she is not compatible with cats and would do best in a child-free home where her environment can remain calm and structured. Winnie would benefit from a patient and attentive pet parent. When it comes to new people entering her space, she can feel unsure and would benefit from slow, thoughtful introductions. In the past, she has had a few instances where she reacted by nipping when her warning signals were missed. These moments did not result in serious injuries, and with attentive care since 2023, her caregivers have successfully managed her responses through positive reinforcement, structured greetings, and giving her space when needed. Winnie currently requires daily medication to help manage her anxiety and skin comfort, and she handles this routine like a pro! Her favorite moments include lounging in warm sunlight, stretching out in the funniest sleeping positions, and quietly keeping her favorite humans company throughout the day. She offers a special kind of companionship that feels peaceful, loyal, and deeply comforting. If you are someone who appreciates a low-key, affectionate dog with a sweet spirit and a love for the simple things, Winnie may be the one to share your days with! Story
Meet Murphy! A charming six-and-a-half-year-old Boxer/American Pitbull Terrier mix currently in Austin, TX, whose essence is a lively blend of curiosity and affection wrapped in a handsome tan coat with bright white accents. He is a 65-pound bundle of energy who greets each day with enthusiasm, especially if it includes long walks, open space to run, and the irresistible promise of cheese treats! Murphy is an affectionate boy who truly enjoys being near his people, happily hanging out wherever the action is. He is playful and high energy, with a love for chewing bones, chasing balls, and hopping into the car for an adventure. His curious nature means he likes to explore, though he can be a little cautious when encountering unfamiliar sights or sounds. With patience and gentle encouragement, he grows more confident and relaxed. Murphy thrives in a consistent routine, enjoying twice daily meals, regular walks, and restful nights in his crate. He is house-trained, comes when called, and knows commands like sit, stay, and come, showing his eagerness to learn and connect. He is friendly with other dogs and has done well with a younger pup, making him a wonderful companion for a home with canine friends. Murphy would do well in an active, structured environment with an experienced guardian who understands large, energetic breeds and can provide a secure fenced yard or room to roam. He may even surprise you with his occasional digging adventures and his joyful enthusiasm for life’s simple pleasures. His love for companionship means he appreciates a present and engaged pet parent who can offer guidance, playtime, and plenty of shared moments. With positive reinforcement and continued learning opportunities, Murphy blossoms into a confident, joyful partner ready for daily adventures and quiet evenings alike with his family. Could Murphy be the spirited sidekick who makes your days brighter and your walks a little more exciting? To learn more or welcome him into your family, reach out at adopt@joyfulpets.com!
