Story
Hello! My name is Rowan! I am a high energy cuddler! I am from a pedigree that instinctively uses their mouths to communicate more frequently than the `average` dog. Adopter should be familiar with the Belgian Malinois to make sure they are ready to raise and include me- a loyal, intelligent and incredibly agile companion to their lifestyle. I am ready to take on the world- one couch, one agility course at a time! :)The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Meet Pumpkin: From Feral to Fabulous. When Pumpkin first arrived, she was a ghost of a dog—shut down, unsure, and utterly heartbroken. She was 9 months old when we saved her and her sister from a high-kill shelter in LA. They were the tiniest dogs we'd ever seen. They were like real-life stuffed animals. When Pumpkin first arrived, she was only 24 lbs at 9 months old! She was so shut down, avoiding eye contact for the fear of being noticed, and moved like a shadow, silent and scared. But even then, there was a spark in her eyes, a tiny ember of hope. Now, at ruffly 1 y/o, this Malinois mix who had only learned that the world was a scary place is now thriving in her foster home. With time, patience, and the gentle guidance of her foster fur siblings, Pumpkin is learning what it means to feel safe. She’s learning that hands can offer LUV, that voices can be kind, and that not all humans are to be feared. Her progress is nothing short of remarkable—day by day, step by step, she’s beginning to let LUV in. Pumpkin LUVS other dogs. They are her comfort zone. Her role models and her security blankets. A confident canine friend in her furever home will help her continue to blossom. She’s still shy with people, but give her time and space, and she’ll reward you with the most beautiful kind of loyalty and LUV. Pumpkin is ready for a family who sees past her ruff beginning and into the heart of a survivor. Someone who will celebrate the little wins: the first tail wag, the first nuzzle, the first moment she chooses you. She’s not just learning to live. She’s learning to trust. And that makes her story one of the most beautiful we’ve ever told. Pumpkin is looking for a forever home with: -- Another friendly dog (or dogs) to show her the ropes -- A calm, patient environment -- A family that believes in second chances Currently located in San Diego but can be transported to the Bay Area! This is Pumpkin’s redemption story. Want to help her write the next chapter? Fill out an application to meet Pumpkin and your new furever LUV! All Mutt Luv Rescue pups receive a full health checkup, heartworm and parasite testing, are fully vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before adoption.

Story
Introducing Roux: A 4-year-old Belgian Malinois mix with a tender heart and soulful eyes that seem to speak straight to your heart.  Roux asks for some patience with getting comfortable in new environments, but once you’re in his circle of trust, you’ll be rewarded with a once-in-a-lifetime bond and a dog whose love feels deeply intentional and profoundly genuine.   One of the most special things about Roux is the way he looks at you—with soft, soulful eyes that project a quiet, true love. He values real connection and forms deep bonds with those he trusts, often gazing up at you as if to check in and make sure you’re together in the moment.   Roux is so extraordinary and beloved that his former shelter volunteers actively seek him out, traveling wherever he is, just for the chance to spend time with this sweet boy, drawn again and again to his gentle soul and the quiet joy he brings to everyone lucky enough to know him.   Inside the home, Roux is the definition of polite. He’s calm, tidy, never destructive, and has impeccable manners. He’ll quietly sit near you with his legs adorably crossed, checking in to see whether it’s cuddle time or independent time.  And if you’re busy? He’ll simply walk away and settle himself. He even sleeps peacefully in his own bed at night and won’t disturb you until you wake, then he’ll greet you with soft eyes and a happy tail.  He listens beautifully and even stops barking the moment he’s asked. Truly, the goodest boy.   Roux thrives with daily activity like walks, enrichment, and lots of play.  Because Roux communicates and explores the world with his mouth (gently, without pressure), he needs a home that understands and respects his communication style. He is ideally looking for the following: &#226&#156&#148&#239&#184&#143Adult-only household &#226&#156&#148&#239&#184&#143Experienced dog owner &#226&#156&#148&#239&#184&#143Willing to be patient with Roux to earn his trust.   Roux gets along well with his canine siblings and loves meeting new dog friends—as with all dogs, with a proper introduction.    Roux will be successful with an adopter who is gentle, patient, kind, and willing to go slow. In return, he’ll give you unwavering companionship, connection, and a love that feels earned and with his whole heart.  If you’re looking for a deeply devoted dog who will adore you once you’ve earned his trust, Roux may be your soul dog.  Interested in meeting him?   Fill out our application and we’ll be in touch: www.tinyurl.com/AdoptMeNow  One Planet Rescue One Planet Rescue is an all-age, all-breed, foster-based rescue organization based in San Jose, CA.February 12, 2026, 2:30 am

Story
Meet Spring, a three-year-old Belgian Malinois with a bright mind and a sensitive soul. Spring is a smart, active boy who is feeling the stress of kennel life. He has begun showing some kennel stress behaviors and may grab or bite at the leash when it’s time to come out. Staff have found that bringing an alternate item—like a toy—for him to hold during leashing helps set him up for success. Once he’s leashed and heading out, Spring transitions beautifully and walks very well on leash.Outside of the kennel, Spring truly shines. He displays a loose body posture and calm demeanor, and he allows full, even invasive, handling without issue. He is comfortable being touched and examined, showing that beneath the stress of the shelter environment is a steady and cooperative companion.Spring has been selective with other dogs, so slow, thoughtful introductions are recommended to ensure positive interactions. He may do best with careful matchmaking or as the only dog in the home.As a typical Malinois, Spring will thrive in an active, experienced home that understands his breed’s need for structure, enrichment, and mental engagement. With patience, consistency, and an outlet for his energy and intelligence, Spring has all the potential to be an incredibly loyal and devoted partner. He’s ready to leave kennel life behind and spring forward into a home where he can truly relax and thrive.
