Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Happy Tripawed Puppy! Coco is an almost 1.5 year-old German Shepherd Dog who weighs approximately 78lbs.  Coco is just a sweet sweet dog. Curious, goofy, loving, and energetic - he loves everyone, and sees the best in them. Coco came to SV Pet Project with a lame right foot and needed multiple surgeries, first to remove a benign tumor, and then a full amputation of the right leg. Coco has adapted quickly to being an amazing tripawed pup.  Throughout Coco's medical treatments, his sweetness, friendliness, and gentle nature have continued to shine! Coco currently lives with two older 4-legged brothers and, while he would love to live with a fur-sibling, he is not part of a bonded pair. As long as he has fur friends to play with, Coco will be a happy boy! When playing with his human pals, in typical puppy fashion Coco can be a bit jumpy and mouthy, but that's easily addressed with a firm voice and a 15 minute walk :-) He's very verbally responsive and wants to please. Sweet Coco has been perfectly house trained since day one, loves car rides, and while he is working on his leash manners, he loves to go for walks and is learning not to pull in excitement when he meets new friends - that is Everyone! Coco knows the benefit of "Sit", "Down" and "Touch" to get his favorite treats, and will benefit from continued positive reinforcement training. Check out Coco's profile on Rocky Kanaka! https://rockykanaka.com/one-leg-short-but-full-of-heart-a-german-shepherds-inspiring-escape-from-adversity/ Prior to adoption, all dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm, vaccinated (including rabies, if age appropriate) and microchipped.   Adoption fees for dogs: http://www.svpetproject.org/info/adoption Stay up-to-date on what our dogs are up to by following us on Facebook!  https://www.facebook.com/svpetproject Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 27, 2024, 2:39 pm

Story
In the Spring of 2022, Heidi found herself on the intake list at the Stanislaus County Shelter picked up as a stray. Little did she know this was the beginning of an amazing journey to a second chance in life. Heidi was scared, hungry, and confused, but her sweet demeanor shone through and she passed her behavioral evaluation with flying colors. Poor, sweet Heidi was extremely underweight, suffering from GI issues, and had kennel cough. A few months later GSRNC answered her rescue plea and within 2 months of being fostered, this lucky girl had a new home. Her adopters fell for Heidi because she was super affectionate, playful, and non-destructive. They learned she was a little cautious with strangers at first but that didn’t last very long! Her extreme intelligence coupled with a love for treats made training lots of fun for the whole family. All the boxes were checked! As they got to know Heidi, the new adopters discovered that she had a high prey drive and could be dog-reactive. Anything small and furry was fair game (excuse the pun). This was a deal-breaker for her new mom and dad who decided to return her to GSRNC. No problem – resilient and charming Heidi was quickly scooped up by another incredible foster! Now 6 years old and 75 lbs., Heidi has settled in nicely with her new foster family. They love that this beautiful girl wants nothing more than to share love and affection with them. They are thrilled she has exceptional manners and lives to please. Heidi has learned to trust and now greets people of all ages with a gentle, yet enthusiastic reception. When asked what is so appealing about Heidi, her fosters say “she is just so snuggly!” Proud Heidi wants you to see all the boxes she checks now! I love: * Taking walks (she says this is a must) * Going on car rides especially if it includes new adventures * Showing off my good manners * Chasing squirrels and cats, it is just too much fun! I am: * House-broken * Crate-trained * Not a puller and walk nicely on a leash * Still a little reactive to dogs but am easily redirected * Possibly amenable to a sibling but honestly, I would love being an only dog! Heidi is a level 3 dog living in the South Bay who wants nothing more than to become the newest member of your active family. April 16, 2024, 4:00 pm

Story
Embry is a beautiful 5-year-old female who came from a Modesto shelter. She is a petite German Shepherd, weighing in at about 65 pounds, but in that small frame, she packs a lot of love and happiness. She walks around her foster home wagging her tail as if she knows she is one of the lucky ones to have been rescued. She is excited when her people come home but has learned that jumping is not the right way to greet them. Embry loves to be with her fosters and, if allowed, she will curl up next to them and snooze happily while they read or watch TV. This confident girl is crate trained but can also be left alone in the home without issues! Embry knows her basic commands, such as sit and down, and has even learned how to use the dog door. She alarm barks at new people coming to the home so will need to learn proper slow introductions to strangers (such as meeting in front of the home on neutral ground). Her foster family has discovered that Embry makes a great running buddy and she even joins them for a 4 mile jog. When she is leashed up and taken out for a walk or run, Embry is initially extremely excitable at the beginning of an excursion and may bark at dogs and people but she calms and settles after a few minutes of walking. She has walked through birthday parties in the park (balloons, loud music, children) without expressing any reactivity. Embry is a very intelligent dog who is still learning leash manners and sometimes pulls a bit. With consistent training, Embry will catch on quickly. Embry enjoys car rides but she really loves playing with and in water. Her silly antics will keep you quite entertained. Make sure Embry has plenty of toys, especially fuzzy squeaky ones! While she is always up for a game of fetch, if you say no and let her know you’re done, she will gladly entertain herself. And, Embry does not destroy her precious toys! Just think of all the money you could save! Currently Embry is an only dog, but she did well with another dog during her shelter evaluation, and lived peacefully with another dog in her prior foster home. With proper introductions, she likely would do well with a doggy sibling. There is some prey drive in Embry, but it isn’t excessive, so we are unable to say whether she could learn to live with a feline sibling. Her fosters have no children, therefore, we are unsure how she reacts to them. Mature Embry is at that perfect age, past the puppy antics, still able and willing to learn, and has plenty of energy to keep up with your activities. She has been patiently waiting for her forever family and would like nothing more than to be your loyal companion. This sweetheart is a level 3 dog being fostered in the Sacramento area. Story
Tara is a beautiful, 70 pound, long legged 4 year old kind, sweet and generous dog who is thriving in her foster home. Tara is a kind, sweet and generous dog who is thriving in her foster home. Tara quickly bonds to women but was unsure about men. Never showed any aggression but would bark and hide from them. Through the amazing patience and kindness from her male foster family members, Tara has learned that she can trust men, and is comfortable and playful around them. Watch Tara get the zoomies! Tara is smart and curious and is responding well to training. She is crate trained but sleeps quietly on her doggy bed and waits patiently until her family wakes up. Tara has great house manners. She doesn't chew inappropriately and stays off furniture. In the backyard, she doesn't dig and isn't destructive. Tara is not a demanding dog and happily waits until her foster family is ready to play. Tara loves walking and hiking and never pulls on the leash. She can be fussy when other dogs bark at her but is easily redirected. We think Tara would do best being an only dog. Tara learns quickly and is working hard on being the best canine citizen she can be! Tara is a level 3 dog. April 16, 2024, 4:00 pm
