Meet Dash! This gorgeous Malinois pup embodies all her name means- “Adventurous, bold, energetic. Runs and travels in a hurry.”She is agile, fast as lightening and always on the go. Her mind is brilliant and constantly working, and at this point I fear, she is smarter than me 😅 Dash’s favorite things include, Running…anywhere. Up in the hills, in the horse pastures, around the ponds, along the perimeter of our backyard fence. You name it, she’s claimed it. She loves swimming, digging and pouncing on her prey aka stuffy toys. She is EXTREMELY prey driven. She loves belly rubs and getting groomed. She’s a cuddle bug, Velcro dog, and protective of our pack. We estimate Dash to be about a year old. She is a petite girl, so will also stay pretty manageable. She is the perfect age to start training, which this breed thrives on. She loves a challenge and being rewarded, as she really tries to please. She loves her pack, but so far has been indifferent with other dogs. I think she would be happy as an only pup, but would need somebody home with her most of the time with a lot of activity and stimulation. Please research this breed, experience is even better! She’s such a gem, ready to “Dash” into her forever!! Dash will be spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated. Dash is about 1 year old.

Meet Socks, the leggy mixed breed. Socks came to the Shelter after her previous guardian was unable to continue caring for her. This energetic gal is needing an active adopter to meet her day to day needs. She can be jumpy and mouthy (especially when excited). These behaviors can be overwhelming for children or people inexperienced with dogs, especially since Socks is a larger sized dog. Socks has attended playgroup at the Shelter and has enjoyed wrestling and running around with other large sized dogs. She can be a tactile player (pawing at the dogs and jumping on them) so any resident dogs should meet at the Shelter prior to adoption to ensure that the dogs jive. Staff have observed that when another dog is present, Socks is less likely to jump and mouth on people. Due to this, a home with a canine companion is highly recommended moving forward. Socks was outdoors previously and should transition to indoor living as she wants to be with people and a part of the family. Adopters should be patient with Socks to help her transition to her adoptive home and learn life skills and manners (like leash walking and potty training). Good news is that Socks is HIGHLY food motivated and super smart so she is up for the challenge of bonding with her new people through learning. Socks is available for pre-adoption. Come meet her, fall in love and take her home after her spay surgery. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. Meet Eden, the Malinois pup. Eden arrived to the Shelter as an owner surrender after her previous guardians were unable to continue caring for her. She lived in a home with two other dogs (labs) and enjoyed playing with them. Typical to dogs her age and breed, Eden can be a bit mouthy when she plays or is overstimulated. Adopters should be mindful of this in interactions and redirect her mouth towards appropriate toys and chews. Eden has been around a 2 year old child and did well. Any homes with children should involve guardians monitoring any and all interactions to ensure everyone stays save. Eden has lived with cats and does enjoy chasing them but never harmed them. A very dog-savvy cat and a slow thoughtful introduction may be a fit. She was observed to be house trained in her previous home. Eden loves to play fetch and be with her people. She is a cuddler. Adopters should ensure they are doing breed specific research prior to adoption to ensure that they can provide the mental and physical enrichment Eden needs in the day to day to be a happy, well rounded pup. Is very active and loves people and attention. Sadly cannot keep due to having a busy schedule and not giving her the attention she needs. It’s good with kids. Not trained however she is potty trained and crate trained. Although she is not trained she understands basic commands, “sit”, “leave it”, “out” , “off”. I have a daughter and the dog is great with her. I want to avoid taking her to a shelter but can’t keep her for much longer.
