Story
Leela has been with me for the last 1.5yrs and has been an incredibly loyal and loving companion. I adopted her at about 10 months old after she was found wandering the CA desert with her sisters. She’s 50% Belgian Malinois, 25% Bulldog, and 25% Staffordshire Terrier. Since PCSing from Southern California, she hasn’t adjusted well to downtown Annapolis, but she’s been thriving at my aunt’s farm in western Virginia where she started spending more time. Leela would do best in a home with land, consistent attention, and plenty of exercise. She’s very smart, athletic, and loves swimming, running, and hiking, though she doesn’t do great in heat due to her bulldog side. She gets along great with other dogs and has done well in daycare and boarding, and she’s been fine around farm animals. She has shown some resource guarding around me, but not with others and can be nervous (which I presume is from her puppy days). Overall, she’s a great dog who just needs to find a better environment

Story
Shadow (7months old) came from a purebred breeder. She is friendly with humans and does great at the dog park (I’ve taken her many times and she never has bitten anyone, plays wonderfully with all dogs small and big)Unfortunately I need hip replacement surgery which will leave me immobile for 4-5 months. I didn’t anticipate this and there is just no way I can raise this beautiful puppy, now 7 months old, while I’m unable to walk even for months.Shadow likes to have a lot of space in the backyard and home. She is the most loving pup with a defense nature to guard the house. She has progressed wonderfully with her training to be potty and pad trained, to walk without pulling (heal) when using a nose lead, sit, lay down, back up, stay, and is capable of learning so much more. I’ve also taught her attack using a toy and also drop it to let go. She is very food motivated to learnAny physically active owner who is able to love her as much as I do is needed.

Story
Kai is 3 years old. She’s is turning 4 on February 14th. She’s is not spayed and has never had a litter. She is due for her vaccines. She needs a loving home with lots of attention. She’s very energetic in the beginning but she calms down. She needs to live in a house with a yard.

Story
The Melder!MEET FLASH!    Don’t miss out on this gem of a dog! Around a year old, spayed, house broken, and crate trained. Flash is a designer mutt, with some possible combination of Belgian Malinois (maybe!), shepherd (maybe!), Kelpie (maybe!), and a pinch of pit (maybe!). The rest is anyone’s guess. She’s about 48 pounds, though a bit underweight from her time on the street. Yes, that’s right, Flash was found living in the wilds of Frederick, MD, fending for herself until she was taken in by Tara’s House.   Flash is super loving and quickly bonds to her people. She’s been great with kids and adults alike. She does take a few minutes to warm up to new people, but a few well-placed treats do the trick. We call her The Melder, because if it were up to her, she would cozy up to you and meld herself to you! You bend down to give some pets and pretty soon you’re on the floor with a dog in your lap, which is about the greatest thing ever.   Flash is the perfect age–past the shark-puppy phase, but young enough to be super goofy. She tosses balls for herself and has short puppy fits running up and down stairs and parkouring that will have you rolling on the floor laughing at her antics. Her coat is short and silky soft. She doesn’t shed a whole lot. Flash is athletic and can clear 4' fences...but she seems only interested in escaping if one of her people is on the other side of that fence. Despite being athletic and somewhat high energy, Flash does just fine with moderate walks and activity.   She has done great with another dog in the house–she plays hard and loves to wrestle. She walks well on a leash and with another dog. She doesn’t pull aggressively, but she does get distracted by squirrels (so suspicious!) and dogs down the block (Do they want to play? Do they? Do they?) and will need a little urging to move along. If you keep a brisk pace, she matches it well.  Anyone considering Flash for their pack should expect to do some consistent training to get her all the way to Perfect Pup status. But it won’t take long, because Flash is very smart, picks up cues easily, and is motivated by treats.   Flash’s adoption donation fee is $450, which includes spay/neuter, routine vetting and a microchip. You can apply for her by filling out our online application, which is found on our website www.tarashouse.org.  Please email us at info@tarashouse.net with any questions.May 4, 2026, 12:00 pm

Story
Coco and Chica (aka Coco Bean and Chica Boom) are two very good girls who deserve a great life. These sisters were found as <12 week old puppies living together, w/o their mother, in the streets in the Caribbean. Despite starving, they each usually wore (and still wear) the closest thing to a smile with dimples I’ve ever seen on a dog’s face. They were rescued & brought to the US in April of '25 as fosters. I have had them since as I continue to look for their forever home. The girls are very bonded. These girls are sweet and funny:Coco likes to lie on her side and pretend to run her legs, going nowhere. She loves loves and sniffing.Chica will tunnel under Coco, lift her off the ground and walk her around on her back. Coco loves a ball and playing fetch above all else.Smart and assured, they have a lot of promise for any kind of training.1 or both available

Story
Gus is a 5 year old German Shepherd and weighs approximately 115 pounds. We acquired him from a family who wanted to breed their dogs. The mom was a standard GSD and the dad was all black. I see Gus in a home with a big backyard to protect it from squirrels, foxes and cats. He is anxious around young children so a home with 12 year old and older would be best for him. He will not eat his food unless you give him the “ok” otherwise he will be making a puddle of drool. He had his yearly vet visit at the end of February and is up to date with vaccines.
