DISCLOSURE: The adoptable pets in our program are still in the care and custody of owners who wish to re-home their pet. Owners have enlisted Rescue Well to provide marketing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting. ***** NOTE: The initial ad/bio below was published on 28 October 2022 and today, 16 November 2022, Lexy's guardian reached out to update her recent progress: "I have been walking Lexy 3 times a day for 3 weeks now since we had the dog incident. This is more than I ever walked her before as she had a huge yard and other dogs to play with. Being with her so much more gives me more insight as to who she truly is. And that is very loving, wants to do right, doesn’t tug at the leash, and is very loyal and protective. I took Lexy to the vet today for her annual check up and shots at Hillendale. The vet was aware of the incident as he’s the vet for all the family’s dogs including my daughter Karas’. He verified what I was told before that Lexy would be a great dog for a one dog owner. She’s incredibly fit and strong." Lexy is 8 years old and weighs 60lbs. She is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on her vaccines. She knows sit, stay, give a paw, 'speaks' with her eyes, loves walking and "...I give her a short leash and she doesn't pull me." Lexy is great in the car. Lexy especially dislikes other female dogs. NOTE: "...[Lexy] is very very protective of her owner and often silently alerts me if someone is coming up on me in the dark. If I tell her it's okay she won't bark or act." LUNGE/ATTACK INCIDENT: In October 2022, she bit/attacked another canine resident; they also fought prior to this incident. The bite broke the skin, as the 'paw was split once', and animal control was not involved. "Two female dogs relatively same size but different temperament once again got into it but this time Lexy gave more than she received in the past." Lexy's guardian explains his reasons for rehoming her: "She's a rescue from NM where I was main caregiver for my mom until she passed. Have been living with 3 dogs here in Baltimore 1 year. She recently got into fight with one of the females here and caused injury. I sought the advice of a well-known trainer hoping to prevent future recurrence; however, she said that Lexy is too old to retrain and the dogs will definitely fight again now. She's sweet and I love her but I need to find her a new home where she can get the love and attention she deserves." Lexy's guardian states the following about children: Lexy has not lived with children (while she's lived with her guardian), but likes to be petted by children and adults who ask permission. Lexy is gentle with guardian's 1year-old granddaugher. Therefore, Lexy's guardian recommends her living with children. Lexy's guardian states the following about dogs: Lexy currently lives with dogs. "She would bark and lunge on the leash at the beginning now she will react and want to engage if I let her." Therefore, Lexy's guardian doesn't recommend her living with dogs. NOTE: However, Lexy has been fine with the resident male great dane. Lexy's guardian states the following about cats: Lexy has not lived with cats, but likes to chase them if seen outside. Therefore, Lexy's guardian doesn't recommend her living with cats. Lexy's guardian describes her future ideal home: " Fenced yard. Loving environment. Owners who enjoy walking Lexy, she absolutely loves it when she sees the leash out. She will absolutely sleep where her bed is. She’s done that since day 1 with me. She’s not a big barker inside the home."
