Please contact Kady Hammer (KadyH@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.Young boy ISO love and fresh start!COLTON Come meet Colton and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (8/16) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Falls Church (6100A Arlington Blvd, Falls Church, VA 22044)!   Estimated Age: 3 years as of June 2026     Best Guess for Breed:  Shepherd/Malinois mix       Approximate Weight:   49 lbs   Gets Along With:  Colton does well with other dogs! We have tested him with some of the cats at the shelter, and he did not seem particularly interested in chasing or pouncing on the cat. While this is a positive sign that Colton could live with a cat, he/she has not done so to our knowledge. We haven't seen him with kids and are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!   Currently available for adoption in the DC area! Check out cute photos and videos of Colton on our foster Instagram account: @luckydogrescues   View more cute photos of Colton here:  https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjBU9TT;    Check out these videos of Colton:https://youtu.be/vdXH_XBNHfk, https://www.youtube.com/shorts/iAqlI3UmaJ4?feature=share, and https://youtu.be/wFFbTPUP3Eo.   Colton is Looking For:    His forever home! Colton wants nothing more than to trot through the world with all the confidence of a well-loved dog.  Thing is, he hasn't seen nearly enough of the world yet and right now he's shy. He needs extra loving and patient adopters who will help him explore at his pace, and a welcoming resident dog who will show him how to dog.   What My Foster Says About Me:   Colton is a really funny and silly dog. He absolutely loves to play and enjoys running around. Once Colton gets to know other dogs, he loves being 'one of the dogs' and thrives in the companionship of other dogs. Just like with dogs, Colton needs a little bit of time to warm up to people before feeling comfortable, but eases in quickly. He has learned to sit, crate, and if you pat your chest and say 'Colton hug' he will jump up and wrap his arm around your neck. Love it!  He has excellent house manners and will ask to go out if he needs to.  If you are looking for a goofy and loving addition to your home, Colton is the dog for you. He loves cuddling up by the tv and will definitely watch cartoons if it’s playing! Loves going for walks and running and playing in big open areas. He loves giving hugs and kisses. He can be a bit shy once you get to know him but once he opens up he’s great, same goes with other pups. Overall he is a very sweet boy who just wants cuddles!   TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and neuter. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online   at   bit.ly/adoptaluckydog  .  Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. That said, we cannot make any guarantees about age, breed or temperament. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training. August 24, 2026, 12:08 am

Story
My daughter agreed to take Zora from a rescue but then had some personal setbacks which forced her to give up the dog. Zora tried to climb a fence and got her paw cut by chicken wire, and I agreed to take her while she was healing. She is a beautiful, protective, 3 year old Belgian Malinois with perfect markings and I immediately established a bond with her. Unfortunately, I am too old to keep her and I cannot offer her the life she deserves. She is extremely active, playful and is always by my side, which prevents me from doing the things I need to do. She is also very protective, she does not like strangers or even relatives, and she will bark and growl at people if they get too close. It does not appear that she has had any professional training, and I believe that would help her to respond better to people. She is spayed so cannot be bred. I really love this dog, but she deserves a better life than I can offer her.

Story
Seeking a highly qualified foster or adopter looking for a working or sport dog. Lycan is trained in German, knows bite work, has high ball drive, and was scheduled for euthanasia before we stepped in. Seeing the intelligence behind this dog, we sent him straight to a trainer. They confirmed what we already suspected—someone put real, professional work into him. He reads your hands, responds to commands, and is ready to work. He’s engaged, aware, and looking for direction. Maybe he flunked out of a program. Maybe he got lost. He didn’t have a tag or microchip, so we may never know. While we don’t know his exact breed or mix, some have suggested he may come from KNPV lines. That’s not our area to confirm, but we welcome feedback from those familiar with this type of dog. Aside from his drive, he’s excellent with people. Lycan will give you his paw and roll onto his back the second he meets you. He’s social, confident, and genuinely enjoys interaction. He loves to work. He wants a job. That’s where he’s happiest. Lycan is five years old, about 70 lbs, neutered, heartworm negative, and currently in boarding with a trainer until the right home is found. He’s medium to high drive and currently reactive to male dogs, which is manageable for someone experienced and familiar with dogs like him. We are looking for a specific home: sport, protection, or working, or simply someone who can handle this type of dog. Someone experienced who understands what they’re looking at and actually wants a dog like this. This is not a casual pet. He needs to be engaged and given a job so he can live up to his full potential, because that’s what he truly enjoys. Transport available anywhere in the U.S. to approved applicants. Current location: Houston, TX See #Lycan0192 on Facebook for more info.

Story
Meet Ecko – Your New Best Friend! 🐾 Looking for a smart, sweet, and slightly mischievous sidekick? Meet Ecko, a 3-month-old male Malinois puppy with the perfect mix of playful energy and cuddle bug charm! Ecko loves spending time with his sister, Blu, and is happy to follow her lead during adventures. He's a little calmer than his sister, making him the perfect balance of fun and snuggly. After a good play session, he's always ready to curl up for cuddles. This handsome boy is already off to a fantastic start! He's crate trained, sleeps through the night, is doing great with potty training, knows his name, and comes when called. He's food motivated (treats are definitely the way to his heart!) and eager to learn. Ecko is a toy enthusiast, especially when it comes to large balls and sturdy toys. He also has one adorable quirk—you may occasionally find your socks or shoes mysteriously relocated thanks to this lovable little bandit! 😂 He's been unfazed by neighborhood cats, making him a confident and curious pup. His biggest "enemy"? The vacuum cleaner. His favorite TV show? The American Dog Show, which he watches with surprising enthusiasm! If you're looking for a loyal, intelligent puppy who's ready to grow into an amazing companion, Ecko could be the perfect addition to your family. Ecko is available for adoption through Second Start Rescue. Give this sweet boy the loving home he deserves, and you'll gain a best friend for life! ❤️

She tested positive for heartworms, but landed in a place where heartworm treatment is provided! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. We are happy to discuss where in the treatment process this Lucky Dog is in right now!
