Story
Please contact Kady Hammer (KadyH@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.Young boy ISO love and fresh start!COLTON NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!   Come meet Colton and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (06/21) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Falls Church, VA (6100 - A Arlington Blvd, Falls Church, VA 22044)!     Name:   Colton          Best Guess for Breed:   Shepherd/Malinois Mix      Best Guess for Age:   2 years as of April 2025         SEX:    Male   Approximate Weight:   49 lbs   Gets Along With:  Colton does well with other dogs! We have tested him with some of the cats at the shelter, and he did not seem particularly interested in chasing or pouncing on the cat. While this is a positive sign that Colton could live with a cat, he/she has not done so to our knowledge. We haven't seen him with kids and are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!   Currently Living at:   DC area foster home.Check out cute photos and videos of Colton on our foster Instagram account. Look for stories and posts: @luckydogrescues   View more cute photos of Colton here:  https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjBU9TT;    Check out these videos of Colton:https://youtu.be/vdXH_XBNHfk, https://www.youtube.com/shorts/iAqlI3UmaJ4?feature=share, and https://youtu.be/wFFbTPUP3Eo.   Colton is Looking For:    His forever home! Colton wants nothing more than to trot through the world with all the confidence of a well-loved dog. He is eager to burn off all that awesome young-dog energy with romps in parks, long sniffy walks, and all the adventures his humans can dream up. Thing is, he hasn't seen nearly enough of the world yet and right now he's shy. He needs extra loving and patient adopters who will help him explore at his pace, and a welcoming resident dog who will show him how to dog.  Most of all, though, he wants to know where he belongs - and to be safe and loved under his own roof. In exchange, he promises to give adoring gazes, to make his humans laugh, and to be a loyal companion for all his days. What do you say? Does Colton get to spend his life with you? What My Foster Says About Me:   Colton is a really funny and silly dog. He absolutely loves to play and enjoys running around. Once Colton gets to know other dogs, he loves being 'one of the dogs' and thrives in the companionship of other dogs. Just like with dogs, Colton needs a little bit of time to warm up to people before feeling comfortable, but eases in quickly. He has learned to sit, crate, and if you pat your chest and say 'Colton hug' he will jump up and wrap his arm around your neck. Love it!  He has excellent house manners and will ask to go out if he needs to.  If you are looking for a goofy and loving addition to your home, Colton is the dog for you. He loves cuddling up by the tv and will definitely watch cartoons if it’s playing! Loves going for walks and running and playing in big open areas. He loves giving hugs and kisses. He can be a bit shy once you get to know him but once he opens up he’s great, same goes with other pups. Overall he is a very sweet boy who just wants cuddles! Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online   at   bit.ly/adoptaluckydog  .   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. Story
My daughter agreed to take Zora from a rescue but then had some personal setbacks which forced her to give up the dog. Zora tried to climb a fence and got her paw cut by chicken wire, and I agreed to take her while she was healing. She is a beautiful, protective, 3 year old Belgian Malinois with perfect markings and I immediately established a bond with her. Unfortunately, I am too old to keep her and I cannot offer her the life she deserves. She is extremely active, playful and is always by my side, which prevents me from doing the things I need to do. She is also very protective, she does not like strangers or even relatives, and she will bark and growl at people if they get too close. It does not appear that she has had any professional training, and I believe that would help her to respond better to people. She is spayed so cannot be bred. I really love this dog, but she deserves a better life than I can offer her.

Story
Lucca is an 8-year-old Belgian Malinois (turning 9 in September) that I adopted in 2019. She is incredibly intelligent, loyal, and emotionally aware, and she bonds closely with her person. She thrives in an environment with structure, attention, and consistent mental and physical engagement. Lucca has a strong personality and does best as the only pet in the home, where she can receive focused attention. I am looking for an experienced owner familiar with working breeds (Malinois, German Shepherd, etc.) who understands their needs and can provide daily exercise, engagement, and leadership. Due to my current workload, health considerations, and time constraints, I’m no longer able to give her the level of attention she needs to truly thrive. This decision is about finding her the right environment.

Story
If you're looking for a puppy who loves both adventure and snuggles, Delta is your girl! This adorable sweetheart has the perfect balance of playful puppy energy and a calm, affectionate personality. She loves staying close to her people and her canine siblings, making her a wonderful companion who enjoys being part of the family. Delta is doing a fantastic job with her house training and is already sleeping through the night. She has been around children of all ages and other dogs and has done wonderfully with everyone she's met. Even better, she's an especially gentle puppy who isn't a nipper, making her an easy addition to a loving home. After spending much of her early life outdoors, Delta has fully embraced the comforts of indoor living. Her crate, a soft cushion, and a cozy place to nap are now some of her favorite things. And if there's a lap available while the TV is on, she'll happily claim it for a cuddle session! Delta is looking for a family that will continue her puppy training, include her in their daily adventures, and never pass up the chance to give plenty of belly rubs. In return, she'll reward you with endless love, loyal companionship, and a lifetime of snuggles. Could Delta be the missing piece your family has been waiting for?

MIKEY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!   Name:   Mikey        Best Guess for Breed:   German shepherd, lab and boxer mix Best Guess for Age:   7 years as of April 2025      SEX:    Male   Approximate Weight:   64 lbs   View more cute photos of Mikey here:  https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjBMXGr;    Gets Along With:    Mikey lives with other dogs of all sizes and does very well. He would do best in a home with no cats or young kids as he likes to jump to say hello and lives life to smother you with affection -- big smiles and tongue out.   Current Location: DC area foster home Check out this video of Mikey's basketball practice: https://youtu.be/j-2r-03pLLM.  Follow Mikey on Instagram at instagram.com/mikeythegoober.  Your Life with Mikey: You get home. His tail goes thump thump thump as he eagerly awaits his favorite thing in the world: You. You open his crate. He jumps out and shows you how happy he is to see you.  You change into your gym shoes and open the door to your fenced backyard. He goes out, sniffs around and does his business, then has a little romp. He sees you walk up with a basketball and he jumps around ecstatically - it’s time to play basketball! He loves basketball! You can see in those videos how much he loves it.  After a game where you think he probably could beat you if he had opposable thumbs, you two go back in. He lumbers over to his crate to chill while you whip up dinner for everyone.  After dinner is the best part. Mikey looks at you with adoring eyes as he galumphs up, turns around, and plops down on your lap. It doesn’t matter that he’s 64 pounds. In his vision of himself, he is a svelte boy no bigger than a Pomeranian, and a human lap is his destiny.  You look down at him - well, maybe up at him when he’s on your lap. And you go “Aw I love you, you big lug.” See, Mikey is one of those awesome dogs with a simple outlook on life. He loves his spot (his crate or lying on a rug at your feet). He loves running around in a fenced yard. And he loves beyond all belief - he completely adores - his humans.  Because he loves people so much and has no clue how big he is, he needs to go to a home where the humans are of an appropriate size and sturdiness to handle him happily plonking down on them. Small children and delicate individuals are not the ideal fit for an onslaught of Mikey-love. He currently lives in a foster home where there are many dogs, including a 12-pound dachshund, so it’s hard to blame him for looking at that one daintily perching on human laps and thinking “me too!” Being a simple dog, he’s also one of those with unshakable dog logic. In his case, Mikey finds wheels scary. So he prefers to run around a nice fenced backyard rather than encounter bicycles, skateboards, and other wheeled items on walks. He rides in a car just fine - it’s just those other wheels. You know. Dog logic.  Mikey is such a sweetie, such an incredibly loyal companion to his humans. Since he thrives running around a big fenced backyard, his family wouldn’t be walking him. He is also terrific in his crate and relishes being in there, so managing him while he’s in the house isn’t complicated. Giving him all the pets and rubs and scratches he demands, that’s definitely work. But the payoff is wonderful. Having a big, super affectionate, simple minded (uncomplicated) dog is an amazing experience - that true unconditional love. What do you say? Can Mikey give all he has to offer to you? Story
Meet Midnight Onyx your future adventure buddy, weighted blanket, and silly guy all rolled into one handsome package. Midnight Onyx is a sweet, energetic teenage pup who is looking for a family to call his own. He’s the kind of dog who loves his people whether that means leaning dramatically into you for cuddles on the couch, following you around the house like your slightly oversized shadow, or joining you for weekend hiking adventures. He’s got that perfect mix of playful energy and cozy snuggle vibes.Like any teenage boy, Midnight Onyx is still figuring himself out and occasionally makes questionable life choices with enthusiasm. He’ll need a family ready to help him channel his big puppy energy into fun outlets for both his brain and body. Think enrichment toys, training games, walks, adventures, and maybe a little “find it” game while you pretend you’re both on a nature documentary. In return, you’ll get a loyal best friend who is equal parts goofy, affectionate, and ready to become the main character in your life story. If you are interested in adopting Midnight Onyx, please visit the shelter during our adoption hours.
