If so, Akiro might be the perfect addition to your family. Akiro is a sweet, shy boy who has faced more than his share of challenges. This gentle soul needs a special kind of adopter—someone who can provide the time and care required to help him overcome his fears and become the confident, loving companion he’s meant to be. Akiro will thrive best with someone experienced in handling anxious dogs. He needs a patient and understanding approach as he builds trust at his own pace. A calm and steady home environment will help him feel secure, and a predictable routine will make him more comfortable and confident. Positive reinforcement training is crucial for helping Akiro work through his fears. With gentle guidance, he can learn to approach new experiences with greater ease. Building trust with Akiro is a gradual process, so a dedicated owner who is committed to spending quality time with him and introducing him to new things slowly is essential. Once Akiro feels safe, he will reveal his deep affection and loyalty. His gentle nature will shine through as he begins to trust you. He enjoys quiet moments and will thrive in a serene home environment where he can relax and feel at ease. Important Note: Commitment Required Due to Akiro’s sensitive nature and the dedication needed for his development, we are not accepting returns for him. Akiro’s progress is delicate, and it’s essential that he finds a stable, committed home where he can continue his journey without interruption. Akiro needs an owner who is ready to invest in his training and socialization. Moving between homes can disrupt his progress, lead to separation anxiety, and hinder his development. If you’re prepared to offer Akiro a stable and loving environment and are committed to his ongoing growth, we invite you to consider adopting him. Your dedication will play a crucial role in helping Akiro become the confident and happy companion he’s meant to be. __________________________________If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application.Apply to adopt at: www.nerdypaws.org Nerdy Paws Animal Rescue is a foster based rescue in Springfield, VA. We do not have a shelter, all of our animals are in foster homes. We require all potential adopters to fill out an application before setting up a meeting with the animal and their foster family. Story
Despite her rough start, nothing keeps Phoenix down. At just eight months old, she was abandoned — pregnant and scared — on an elderly man’s property in Corpus Christi, Texas. Rescued just 24 hours before giving birth, Phoenix, still a puppy herself, raised her litter and sent them on their way. Now, she says it’s her time to shine. Today, Phoenix is finally getting the chance to just be a young dog. She’s smart, affectionate, and full of life. Whether it's running, hiking, playing with toys, or just hanging out with her people, Phoenix throws her whole heart into it. She’s crate trained, house trained, and a total cuddle bug when she’s not out exploring. Phoenix gets along great with other dogs of all ages and sizes. Cats, however, are a different story — she’s made it clear she has no interest in becoming friends. True to her breed, she’s a quick study who loves a challenge and would thrive in an active home that keeps both her body and mind engaged. Phoenix is now on her way to North Carolina, where she’ll be looking for the family she’s waited her whole young life to find — someone who will match her energy, appreciate her heart, and finally give her the safe, loving home she's been patiently waiting for.

Story
Meet Channing! Channing is a vibrant and playful pup just over 4 years old, looking for a loving forever home. Adopted from our rescue four years ago, Channing has grown into an energetic companion who loves to play catch and run around the yard. He would thrive in a home with a fenced yard where he can enjoy plenty of playtime and outdoor adventures. Channing is the perfect match for a family that enjoys an active lifestyle and can provide him with regular exercise. We were told he loves other dogs; however, since he has been in the kennel environment, he seems particular with his dog friends. He is kid friendly though. He would love the company of older children to play with. When he's not running around, Channing is incredibly affectionate and will let you know when he wants some love and attention. He's also a pro at cozying up at the end of the bed or next to you on the couch while you watch TV or read a book. Channing is house-trained, responds well to basic commands like sit and stay, and is up to date on his vaccinations. He's also neutered and ready to be your loyal companion. With his loving personality and zest for life, Channing is a wonderful dog with so much love to give. If you're looking for an energetic, affectionate, and playful dog to join your family, Channing might just be the perfect fit! Complete our online application at animalfriendsva.org and we'll arrange a meet and greet to see if he's the one you've been looking for.

Story
Two beautiful brindle sisters (Coco and Chica) are looking for their forever home(s). I rescued these two girls as neglected street puppies on Bonaire. They were smart & affectionate & needed a better solution than to grow up street dogs. The girls are well socialized with all kinds of people: adults and children. They aim to please. They are easy to train and learn easily & readily. They sleep through the night in their crates. They are learning how to walk on leash. I would like the girls to be a package deal but I understand two dogs may be a lot. They survived together & it is beautiful to see such a bond. They traveled from bonaire to baltimore by way of a couple other countries. Wonderful road dogs. They need a home that is active. They would enjoy running and lots of space — they are not apartment dwellers. They will make a wonderful part of your family. Willing to travel to meet serious adopters.

These pups are in Alexandria, Virginia too!

Story
Thank you for considering our boy, Ranger. Ranger is a year and 3 months old puppy/adolescent dog. He has a lot of energy! He is very smart, and trainable, but has had trouble in the home. We recently welcomed a baby in March, and unfortunately 2 weeks later Ranger was hit by a car. Luckily, he survived surprisingly unharmed. He broke his front leg which has almost finished healing and had two non-essential teeth broken. He is MOUTHY and nips, we highly suggest an experienced German Shepherd owner. We have also reached out to German Shepherd rescues. He has a minor bit history, but just breaking skin as is common with the breed. He is a pure-bred East German/Czech working line. We really love him, but unfortunately some personal issues have made it best to find him another home. If you are interested please contact me. Thanks, Michael
