Story
Hi, I’m Toby—and my motto is: I can’t see you, but I love you. I’m a 7–8 year old, 26 lb. (mini) Border Collie mix (maybe Beagle??) with a big heart and a lot of resilience. I was found on MLK Blvd in Portland, blind, underweight and struggling. Not long after, I had to have my eyes removed due to painful glaucoma. But I’ve healed well, and I’m learning how to navigate the world in my own way. I’m incredibly smart. I’ve already mapped out my foster home, I come when called (at home), and I sit like a pro—especially if treats are involved. I’m eager to learn and very motivated by food and praise. I just need someone patient to help me build confidence and boundaries. I love people. I bond quickly, greet you with full-body wiggles, and want to be near my humans (but I’m not underfoot all the time). At home, I’m playful, affectionate, and happiest when I’m part of the action. Outside can still be scary for me. Since I can’t see, I react to sounds like barking dogs or nearby people—it can feel overwhelming. I’ll need an understanding adopter, ideally someone with blind dog experience, who can help me feel safe and supported. I may also do well with a calm, confident dog friend to help guide me. I enjoy tug toys, bones, Kongs, and cozy naps (especially on the couch). I sleep in my own bed at night and take daily meds to help with this new life. What I need most is someone patient, kind, and willing to see my potential. Because even though I can’t see you… I will love you with everything I have.

Story
Hi, I’m Jackson! Nice to meet you! I’m an 11-year-old Border Collie/Greyhound mix, but I still play like a puppy and have a heart full of loyalty. I weigh about 48 pounds and have the agility and stamina to run, play, and explore. I used to live on a quiet rural property with the best human dad, where we had all the space in the world. After he passed away, life changed. I moved into town with my other human, and while we love each other deeply, the busy streets and close neighbors have been hard on both of us. I have lots of energy and need daily exercise, whether that’s structured walks, running in a safely fenced yard, or other activities that help me burn off both physical and mental energy. When I don’t get enough outlets, my anxiety can increase. I am very afraid of loud noises, and since losing my human dad I’ve developed anxiety, especially at night. Sometimes this makes it hard for me to settle, and I may try to dig in the corner of a room when I’m feeling overwhelmed. With patience, reassurance, and a calm environment, (including anxiety medication!) I do best. On walks, I get overexcited or reactive when I see other dogs, deer, or unexpected things — I bark, pull on the leash and lunge, or try to chase. Because of this, I’m much happier in a quiet, country environment where I don’t need to be on leash as often. In safe, off-leash areas, I relax, decompress, and can share space nicely with other dogs. The good news is my recall is strong, and I reliably come back to my person. I’m very people-focused and love being close to my humans. I get excited to see kids, but because of my strength, energy, and anxiety, I would do best in a home without small children. My human loves me very much, but can no longer give me the space and exercise that help me feel calm and confident. My ideal home is a quiet, rural setting or peaceful countryside property with one or two adults who understand anxiety and want a deeply loyal companion. I’d thrive as the only pet, where I can soak up all the love, constantly be by my person's side and feel secure again. Does this sound like the right match? Please apply! I’ve been at SDRO for a long time and would love to find my second lease on life.

He has won the hearts of many of the staff here at SafeHaven....especially the Executive Director.Chance is a gentle soul who would thrive in a calm, easygoing environment. He’s looking for a family that enjoys the slower side of life—quiet moments, cozy naps, and simple companionship. His sweet nature makes him the perfect buddy for someone who wants a loyal friend by their side. He is good with other dogs, is housebroken, and seems to not know a stranger. He truly is 100% a wonderful boy!All Chance needs is a peaceful home where he can feel safe, loved, and cherished every day. If you have room in your heart and home for a senior boy, Chance is ready to give you so much unconditional love!

Story
Now, before we go any further into my story.... let me warn you...it contains heartache and then some puppies, and fear and even some hopelessness. We do go to the top of the mountain as well, so hold in for the wild ride of my life:) maybe you will get to be my happily ever after.... So I was born a poor border collie mixed pup, in the miserable heat, in a disgusting backyard. To a mama that could have been so beautiful, if she had been brushed and cared for.... Fast forward thru almost 4 YEARS of misery and puppies, we were saved!!! I was saved with 9 newborn puppies and my sister/daughter/ cousin, etccc Princess and HER 9 PUPPIES TOO! We landed safe and sound at the rescue! We are now gorgeous girls and all pups grown and adopted! Now its time for me!! I am a single gal, and really don't like other dogs in my business. I want to be the Queen of the house :D Adopt me and I will fill YOUR home with my love and devotion. Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $450 (includes transport to your area)

Story
Beau is a 1.5 year old dog who joined our family a bit over a year ago from Safe Haven. He is gentle with the cat and young children he lives with and sociable/playful with dogs at the dog park. He loves to swim in the Willamette/Mary's River, walk trails, and chase his ball. He can go to his new home with previous adoption paperwork, vet records, toys, bed/hutch, and remaining doses of Simparica Trio. In the fall his paws developed inflammation, but after treatment it cleared up and has not returned. He is due for a wellness visit, and rabies and kennel cough vaccines. He’s affectionate and friendly but has had issues with anxiety, so an owner who can be home frequently and give consistent attention would be ideal. We would love for him to have a yard and/or someone who enjoys daily activity—walks, playtime, and mental enrichment to help him stay active. Rehoming him was a difficult decision and we want to find him a loving, patient family who can commit to him long-term.
