You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs. Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families. We have many sponsorship dogs. Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :) When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :) So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue. Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding. Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :) Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us! Image growing up in a yard with a human throwing you food over a fence and pouring water in your already dirty water day after day. The human never touched you or the other three dogs in the yard and you lived outside like this summer, winter spring and fall until finally 8 years into your life someone reported your owner to the authorities and they finally came to save you! You found yourself placed in a box separate from the only friends you had ever known. Taken to a noisy shelter, poked, probed, bathed and then stuck in a kennel alone. WOW SCARY right??? Well that was the experience for Max's, his best friend Moose and his 2 other fur buddies. Unfortunately the oldest of the 4 was quite ill and passed away :( The other one was adopted and seems to be doing well. Max's was very shut down until the shelter staff placed him with Moose and then they saw Max's come back to life! We couldn't allow Max's to lose the only friend he has ever had on this earth so we are taking both boys and they will only be adopted as a bonded pair with a contract signed that they will NOT be separated!! Max's & Moose will have to learn to live in a home, walk on a leash and understand what it is like to be valued and actually LOVED by a human. This is Rex! He is a bundle of energy and adorability! He has a big personality for his small stature, and certainly the puppy mannerisms. He came to the shelter as a stray and is now ready to find his furever home. He will need some training to be an exemplary canine citizen, but he is eager to please and highly intelligent. He does like to use his voice and may not be ideal for apartment living at this stage. He is open to possibly living with kids of all ages as well as other animals with proper introductions. Meet Fern: Fern is about a 2 year old (as of January 2026) border collie mix (best guess) that weighs around 48 pounds. Fern was brought into a shelter in Arkansas with her 6 puppies (unfortunately only 2 puppies survived). Our rescue heard about Fern and her 3 week old pups and were able to find a foster home to get them into a lower stress environment. Fern and her pups are currently being fostered in the Lancaster, PA area and would love to meet their forever families. Fern is very friendly, sweet, and loving. She is a champion cuddler. Fern loves other dogs, playing outside, and car rides. She likes being active and would make a great running buddy! Fern is working hard on her house training. Meet Frank: Frank is a 10 week old (as of March 4, 2026) border collie mix (best guess) that weighs around 15 pounds. Frank was found in an Arkansas shelter with his Mama Fern and his brother. Our rescue heard about Fern and her tiny pups (Frank and Fritz) and were able to find a foster home to get them into a lower stress environment.
