Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs.  Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families.  We have many sponsorship dogs.  Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :) When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :)  So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue.  Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding.  Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :) Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us! Image growing up in a yard with a human throwing you food over a fence and pouring water in your already dirty water day after day.  The human never touched you or the other three dogs in the yard and you lived outside like this summer, winter spring and fall until finally 8 years into your life someone reported your owner to the authorities and they finally came to save you!  You found yourself placed in a box separate from the only friends you had ever known.  Taken to a noisy shelter, poked, probed, bathed and then stuck in a kennel alone.  WOW SCARY right???  Well that was the experience for Max's, his best friend Moose and his 2 other fur buddies.  Unfortunately the oldest of the 4 was quite ill and passed away :(   The other one was adopted and seems to be doing well.  Max's was very shut down until the shelter staff placed him with Moose and then they saw Max's come back to life!   We couldn't allow Max's to lose the only friend he has ever had on this earth so we are taking both boys and they will only be adopted as a bonded pair with a contract signed that they will NOT be separated!! Max's & Moose will have to learn to live in a home, walk on a leash and understand what it is like to be valued and actually LOVED by a human.  If you would like to be considered for the boys please fill out an adoption application.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please fill out an adoption application: Adoption application (Dog) Adoption Application (Cat)   Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not. A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop! Story
Meet Arlo 🐾 Arlo is a 1.5-year-old mix (there is definitely some border collie in there!) with a big personality, a happy heart, and energy for days! Smart, affectionate, and eager to please, Arlo loves learning new things and being your right-hand (or paw) man. If you enjoy an active lifestyle, Arlo is ready to be your adventure buddy. He is fully potty trained, up to date on all vaccinations, and already neutered, so he’s all set and ready for his forever home. Arlo has lots of energy and lives for a good full-speed run. Arlos perfect furever home does have a fenced in yard with enough space so he can zoom, explore, and then happily race back to you with a big grin. He will need an active family who is willing to commit to making sure he gets regular exercise! He is working on his leash walking skills and is getting there! Like many young, playful dogs, Arlo is still learning about appropriate playtime antics and will need a strong leader who is willing and ready to work with him in harnessing his excitement! With his intelligence and desire to please, basic obedience training would be a great way to help him shine even brighter. Arlo isn’t much of a barker. He won’t react to doorbells or knocking, but he will adorably let you know when he wants playtime, more water, or a potty break. One of his funniest quirks? Water! Arlo loves it so much he’ll try to sneak into the shower while it’s running—just in case it turns into a pool party. 🚿🐶 Arlo is currently being fostered in Wernersville and would need to meet potential adopters to make sure it’s a great match for everyone. Alro wouldn't mind having a canine playmate to romp around with in the yard, or could be a one and only dog in the right family. He is currently being fostered with yonger children and doesn't mind them as long as they are ready to play too! If you’re looking for a loyal, energetic, fun-loving companion who’s ready to run, learn, and love hard—Arlo just might be your guy. 💙 Zoe's House Rescue Kennel license 9117 Reading PA 19608

Story
Meet Addy, a bright and playful 2-month-old Border Collie mix ready to learn and grow with her new family. Currently weighing 11 pounds and full of cheerful energy, she loves people and enjoys entertaining herself with all kinds of toys. Addy is working on mastering her basics like house and crate training and is being introduced to walking on a leash. She does well with other dogs and shows a curious interest in cats, though a proper introduction is still needed. An apartment would be suitable for her, provided she receives plenty of outdoor time for play and learning. A quick study, she is already responding to simple commands. True to her puppy spirit, Addy can be squirmy and isn’t quite a lap dog yet, but she calms when held close. She is making wonderful progress and seeks a patient, active home for her adventures.Addy is located in Houston, TX. Transport to most states is available for an additional fee of $300.

Story
My husband have had our border collie since he was 8 weeks old, and he just turned 5 in January. He’s has issues with resource guarding and reactivity. He does well at doggy daycare and warms up to people once he has a few moments to sniff and bark at them. The issue is that we now have a baby and our dog is just not happy. His resource guarding has gotten worse and he’s constantly stressed. My husband and I also just no longer have the time to devote to his needs. Our dog would thrive in a home with experienced collie owners. He needs a home with no children. He has never been around cats, but he has shown prey drive towards other small animals like squirrels and rabbits. He will likely do best as a singleton animal. Our dog is so sweet and goofy. He’s got that classic border collie neuroticness. He loves car rides and playing fetch. In the summertime, he likes to chill out in one of those kiddie pools. We are based in the Harrisburg area.

Story
Dexter is a majestic, 4-year-old Golden Retriever/Great Pyrenees mix with a heart as big as his fluffy pawsand a protective streak that runs just as deep. True to his breed (pyrenees experience not required but highly preferred), hes a born guardian who takes his job of watching over his people very seriously. Strangers? Suspicious. Delivery drivers? Definitely up to something. But once youre in his circle of trust, youll have the most loyal, loving companion you could ask for. This gentle giant was surrendered due to a change in his familys living situation & becoming too protective over his family. Now, he is searching for a kind-hearted home where he can feel safe, loved, and cherished. This big guy isnt looking for the fast lanehes looking for someone patient, kind, and willing to go at his pace (meaning several meet and greets). Hes had a lot to carry on those broad shoulders and needs a calm, confident human who understands that building trust with a dog like Dexter is a slow dance, not a sprint. Once he trusts you, he will shower you with affection, offering all the hugs and cuddles a dog can give!Dexter is deeply bonded to his people and wants nothing more than to feel safeand to make sure youre safe too. That instinct to protect is written into his DNA, and while its admirable, its something that will need thoughtful guidance. Dexter needs a home thats not only loving and patient, but also committed to working with a professional trainer to help him understand that he doesnt have to take on the world alone. We will cover the cost of a few training sessions after adoption. Hes a worrier. Hes cautious with new people, barks to alert, and can be reactive if he feels unsure or threatened. With the right training and structure, Dexter has the potential to relax into a more balanced and confident version of himself. Hes incredibly smart and willinghe just needs the right human to show him the way.At heart, he is a big, soft teddy bear who just wants to be close to his loved ones. Dexter would thrive in a quiet, low-traffic home where he can decompress, gain confidence, and be understood. A securely fenced yard is highly preferred; he loves to patrol, lounge in the sun, and keep watch like the noble guardian he was born to be. Hes not cut out for apartment living or busy neighborhoodstoo much hustle and bustle overwhelms him. Dexter prefers quality over quantity in his friendships. Bonus points if you have no plans for an overly social lifestyle. Hes not the dog for everyonebut for the right person, hell be everything. If youve got the heart to go slow, Dexter might just be your forever shadow. Having a Great Pyrenees is like having your own guardian angelin the shape of a 75-pound cloud with paws.Hes not a fan of chaos or surprises, and small children are too much for his peace-loving nature. Older teens or adults who respect his boundaries and understand the value of slow connection would be ideal. He may be happiest as the only dog in the home so he can soak up all your attention and feel secure. He has lived with other animals before and can coexist peacefully with calm, respectful dogsespecially if he has a chance to get to know them gradually. We would hold meet & greets with any other current dogs. On walks, Dexter loves to sniff everything he can, so he is a curious companion. He could use a bit of a refresher when it comes to leash manners, as he tends to get a little excited about all the wonderful scents and pulls on the leash sometimes. With some gentle training, hell be walking like a pro in no time!Dexter is crate-trained and house-trained, so he is well-behaved indoors. He enjoys lounging around but is always up for a quiet stroll or a bit of outdoor playtime if the mood strikes. He is the perfect companion for someone who appreciates a calm, affectionate dog with a loving nature. This handsome boy isnt for first-time dog owners, but hell absolutely thrive with someone experienced, patient, and committed to doing things the right waynot the fast way. Once he lets you in, youll never want to imagine life without him. With structure, consistency, and the support of a skilled trainer, Dexter has all the potential to blossom into the kind of companion who makes you feel like the most important person in the world. If you believe in second chances, value deep connections, and have the heart (and time) to help a dog like Dexter feel safe, seen, and understoodhe just might be waiting for you.If you would like to meet Dexter, please complete an application on our website: www.crcpa.orgCanine Rescue of Central PAKennel #3443

Story
Atlas is a big fluffy sweet guy. He thrives off of lots of love and attention! He came to us after someone abandoned him during Covid. I wish I did not have to do this to him again - I know he deserves more. However we are in an abusive situation and it would be best for his peace to not be drug along as we find peace as well. He just needs love. He is such a good boy. He loves carrots and bully sticks. He enjoys going on easy level hikes and splashing in rivers during during summer and LOVES the snow in the winter. He does have a limp. It is unknown what actually happened to his back leg - we were never told the full background of his limp. But he seems to adjust fine. He also loves car rides! Sticking his head out of the window. He seems just fine around children he is just huge and forgets his size. He does still jump - with love. His size can make it a little bit rude at times. He is a little scared with other dogs
