Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs.  Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families.  We have many sponsorship dogs.  Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :) When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :)  So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue.  Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding.  Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :) Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us! Image growing up in a yard with a human throwing you food over a fence and pouring water in your already dirty water day after day.  The human never touched you or the other three dogs in the yard and you lived outside like this summer, winter spring and fall until finally 8 years into your life someone reported your owner to the authorities and they finally came to save you!  You found yourself placed in a box separate from the only friends you had ever known.  Taken to a noisy shelter, poked, probed, bathed and then stuck in a kennel alone.  WOW SCARY right???  Well that was the experience for Max's, his best friend Moose and his 2 other fur buddies.  Unfortunately the oldest of the 4 was quite ill and passed away :(   The other one was adopted and seems to be doing well.  Max's was very shut down until the shelter staff placed him with Moose and then they saw Max's come back to life!   We couldn't allow Max's to lose the only friend he has ever had on this earth so we are taking both boys and they will only be adopted as a bonded pair with a contract signed that they will NOT be separated!! Max's & Moose will have to learn to live in a home, walk on a leash and understand what it is like to be valued and actually LOVED by a human.  If you would like to be considered for the boys please fill out an adoption application.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please fill out an adoption application: Adoption application (Dog) Adoption Application (Cat)   Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not. A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop! Story
Meet Fern: Fern is about a 2 year old (as of January 2026) border collie mix (best guess) that weighs around 48 pounds. Fern was brought into a shelter in Arkansas with her 6 puppies (unfortunately only 2 puppies survived). Our rescue heard about Fern and her 3 week old pups and were able to find a foster home to get them into a lower stress environment. Fern and her pups are currently being fostered in the Lancaster, PA area and would love to meet their forever families. Fern is very friendly, sweet, and loving. She is a champion cuddler. Fern loves other dogs, playing outside, and car rides. She likes being active and would make a great running buddy! Fern is working hard on her house training. We would love for Fern to have a home with a fenced in yard so she can run and play freely. Fern is getting up to date on her shots and is spayed. Please go to Charlie’s Crusaders website (www.charliescrusaders.org) to fill out an application. CURRENT LOCATION: Foster Home in Lancaster, PA 17603 Kennel License #17584 ##2627295##

Story
This is Rex! He is a bundle of energy and adorability! He has a big personality for his small stature, and certainly the puppy mannerisms. He came to the shelter as a stray and is now ready to find his furever home. He will need some training to be an exemplary canine citizen, but he is eager to please and highly intelligent. He does like to use his voice and may not be ideal for apartment living at this stage. He is open to possibly living with kids of all ages as well as other animals with proper introductions. Rex is a super cool dude and anyone would be lucky to have him as a companion. ---If you are interested in adopting, please come prepared --bring a photo ID, proof of address, and everyone in the home including resident dogs with vaccination history. We are open daily 12-6pm.---The Pennsylvania SPCA - Lancaster Center848 S. Prince St. Lancaster PA 17603Kennel #16516717-917-6979lancaster@pspca.org

Story
Current Location: Union Bridge, MD Meet Edgar Edgar is a one year old Border Collie and he is everything you would hope for in one of the most brilliant breeds on the planet. Playful, friendly, attentive, and almost unnervingly smart, Edgar is the kind of dog who is always thinking, always watching, and always ready for whatever comes next. He already knows sit, down, and paw, and he picks up new things with the kind of speed that will genuinely impress you. He is food motivated and deeply eager to please, which makes training him an absolute joy. He responds well to correction, takes direction beautifully, and brings his whole self to every interaction. When Edgar decides you are his person, you will feel it. This boy needs to move and think. Long walks, active play, and plenty of mental stimulation are not negotiable for Edgar, they are what he was built for. He would absolutely thrive in dog sports like agility, barn hunt, or obedience rallies. Anything fast, fun, and challenging is going to bring out the very best in him. An active family who loves to get outside and do things will find the most incredible partner in Edgar. But here is the thing about Border Collies that Edgar demonstrates perfectly. After a good run and a solid play session, he is more than happy to settle in and snuggle up with you for a movie night. He works hard and he rests well, and that balance makes him a genuinely wonderful companion for everyday life. He is house trained, crate trained, good with other dogs, great with kids, and friendly with new people. He does not mind being left alone, which speaks to his overall confidence and stability. He is loyal, engaged, and deeply interested in being close to his people whenever he can be. Edgar is not looking for just any home. He is looking for a family that will match his energy, challenge his mind, and reward his tremendous heart. If that sounds like you, Edgar is going to be the best decision you ever made.

Story
KENNEL ID #18804 Sidney and his sister Cookie were rescued from a high-kill shelter in Greene County, TN, where overcrowding forces heartbreaking decisions every day. Some were strays never reclaimed. Others were surrendered by their families — and sadly, owner surrenders are the first to be euthanized, as they receive no stray hold. Thankfully, our rescue partner in Tennessee stepped in just in time, saving 15 incredible dogs from the “last call” list. Each has now received full veterinary care and is preparing for a fresh start in PA. Despite their past, these dogs are full of hope and heart. Could this survivor be your new best friend? Sidney is hanging out with his rescuer and foster mom, Carol, in Tennessee. If you have any questions, please email her at abandonedangelsinc@gmail.com. Story
KENNEL ID #18804 Mason is a gentle, sensitive soul who’s learning that the world can be kind again. He’s currently in a foster home in Tennessee with his brother, Monty, and does well with other dogs. Mason is still shy with people—especially men—which is completely understandable given his past. Life on the streets followed by a stay in a high-kill shelter taught him to be cautious, but despite everything he’s been through, Mason has never shown aggression. With patience, consistency, and love, Mason continues to make progress every day. He’ll need a calm, understanding home that allows him to build trust at his own pace. He’s still working on basic training and would benefit from gentle guidance and routine. Mason is an athletic boy and will jump or climb a fence if left unattended, so a secure yard and supervision are important. In return, you’ll gain a loyal companion who just needs someone willing to show him that he’s finally safe. If you have a soft spot for the quiet ones and believe in second chances, Mason may be the perfect fit for you.  Mason is hanging out with his rescuer and foster mom, Carol, in Tennessee.
