Story
Meet Liza Jean: Liza Jean is an 11 year old (as of April 2026) Jack Russell / border collie mix (best guess) that weighs about 23 pounds. Liza Jean was surrendered by her owner with her sister Bingo in a small rural shelter in early April. The woman had recently lost her husband and her home and was having to move into a new place that only allowed 2 dogs but she had 4. She was very distraught at the situation, but had no other choice. Liza Jean was reasonably comfortable at the shelter where she only stayed a day or so before were able to get her into our rescue. Liza Jean is a sweet girl who likes to be with her people. Liza Jean has become a regular pet to her foster and stays near him throughout the day and is a typical bed buddy at night. Liza Jean is currently being fostered in the Lancaster, PA area and would love to meet her forever family. Liza Jean really doesn't show any signs of her senior citizen status; she is quite active and runs around the yard like a much younger dog. Liza Jean is house trained, but may need patience when her environment changes again. We would love for Liza Jean to have a home with a fenced in yard so she can play freely, but it is not a requirement. Liza Jean is up to date on her shots and is spayed. If you are interested in being this girls best friend, please go to Charlie’s Crusaders website (www.charliescrusaders.org) to fill out an application. Meet Bingo: Bingo is an 11 year old (as of April 2026) Jack Russell / border collie mix (best guess) that weighs about 21 pounds. Bingo was surrendered by her owner with her sister, Liza Jean, in a small rural shelter in early April 2026. The woman had recently lost her husband and her home and was having to move into a new place that only allowed 2 dogs but she had 4. She was very distraught at the situation, but had no other choice. Bingo was terribly stressed at the shelter where she only stayed a day or so before we were able to take her in. She was never combative or aggressive, but very shut down and stressed. Bingo took a few days to decompress and come out of her shell once in her foster home. Bingo has struggled with losing her only known home, but she now likes to come to her foster to be petted and will sit in his lap for a while. Bingo wags her tail when he comes in from anywhere. Bingo is currently being fostered in the Landisville, PA area and would love to meet her forever family. Bingo may need patience and understanding from her new family while she adjusts to another change in her living situation. Bingo can run and play in the yard like a much younger dog and it is clear she can feel so happy when comfortable. Bingo was trained to use a doggie door to use the bathroom, but is learning a more traditional method in her current foster home. We would love for Bingo to have a home with a fenced in yard so she can play freely, but it is not a requirement. Bingo is up to date on her shots and is spayed. If you are interested in showing this confused lady the consistent love she deserves, please go to Charlie’s Crusaders website (www.charliescrusaders.org) to fill out an application. A goddess, a warrior… Athena - 1 year old, female mixed breed - Confident, playful, affectionate - Free hugs! - Lovingly melts into her people - Friendly with other dogs, or would be content as your one and only - Smart cookie and good listener - Blind in her left eye from suspected trauma prior to joining us (currently taking eye drops) - Crate trained and housebroken - Cats: kitty approved - Her ideal household would have no children under 8 years old, as she is a herding breed mix and may attempt to herd littles - Looking for an active family who will include her in all of life’s adventures If you think Athena could be a fit for your household, please click over to www.pittieslovepeace.com to submit your online application. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs.  Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families.  We have many sponsorship dogs.  Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :) When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :)  So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue.  Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding.  Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :) Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us! Image growing up in a yard with a human throwing you food over a fence and pouring water in your already dirty water day after day.  The human never touched you or the other three dogs in the yard and you lived outside like this summer, winter spring and fall until finally 8 years into your life someone reported your owner to the authorities and they finally came to save you!  You found yourself placed in a box separate from the only friends you had ever known.  Taken to a noisy shelter, poked, probed, bathed and then stuck in a kennel alone.  WOW SCARY right???  Well that was the experience for Max's, his best friend Moose and his 2 other fur buddies.  Unfortunately the oldest of the 4 was quite ill and passed away :(   The other one was adopted and seems to be doing well.  Max's was very shut down until the shelter staff placed him with Moose and then they saw Max's come back to life!   We couldn't allow Max's to lose the only friend he has ever had on this earth so we are taking both boys and they will only be adopted as a bonded pair with a contract signed that they will NOT be separated!! Max's & Moose will have to learn to live in a home, walk on a leash and understand what it is like to be valued and actually LOVED by a human.  If you would like to be considered for the boys please fill out an adoption application.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please fill out an adoption application: Adoption application (Dog) Adoption Application (Cat)   Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not. A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop! Story
Bailey is a loving and energetic dog who is looking for a new home! She is an extremely smart and playful dog who love cuddles, fetch, and treats of any sort.. Bailey is very energetic (border collie mix) and loves to be active. She loves playing tug-of-war and brain games but her absolute favorite activity is fetch with tennis balls. Bailey`s ideal home would involve new loving parents that have access to a good sized yard. She can get a little reactive and overwhelmed with high-energy dogs that don`t respect her space at first. Bailey is house-trained and knows many commands.

Story
Meet Cary: Cary is about a 1 year old (as of May 2026) Kelpie / Jack Russel / Cur mix (best guess?) that weighs about 29 pounds. Cary was at a shelter in Tennessee and not getting any interest so he was marked to euthanize to make room for more. Fortunately we heard about the situation and had a foster find a spot for him. Cary is currently being fostered in the south and would love to take the freedom ride north to Pennsylvania to meet more prospective families. Cary is incredibly friendly with both people and dogs. Cary is a bundle of energy as well as a playful puppy. Cary is just the right size and temperament for being a lap buddy or bed buddy as well as a buddy for taking for long walks. Cary is currently house trained to a doggie door and may need patience while learning a new routine. We would love for Cary to have a home with a fenced in yard so he can run and play freely. Cary is up to date on his shots and is neutered. Story
Meet Rascal:  Rascal is a 4 year old Cattle Dog/Shepherd mix that weighs around 41 pounds.  Rascal was rescued from a high kill shelter a day before she was to be euthanized.  Rascal loves attention and is very sweet.  Rascal can be dog selective but has no reaction to cats. We recommend older children because Rascal is energetic and sometimes jumps on you. Overall Rascal is a nice girl...just needs some work and stability. Rascal is house and crate trained but needs some work on her leash walking. Rascal will need a fenced in yard where she can run and a family that is very active and experienced. Rascal will make a great dog in the right home. Rascal is up to date on all her shots and spayed. If you were interested in adopting this sweet girl, please go to our website at charliescrusaders.org and fill out our adoption application.
