Story
Meet Liza Jean: Liza Jean is an 11 year old (as of April 2026) Jack Russell / border collie mix (best guess) that weighs about 23 pounds. Liza Jean was surrendered by her owner with her sister Bingo in a small rural shelter in early April. The woman had recently lost her husband and her home and was having to move into a new place that only allowed 2 dogs but she had 4. She was very distraught at the situation, but had no other choice. Liza Jean was reasonably comfortable at the shelter where she only stayed a day or so before were able to get her into our rescue. Liza Jean is a sweet girl who likes to be with her people. Liza Jean has become a regular pet to her foster and stays near him throughout the day and is a typical bed buddy at night. Liza Jean is currently being fostered in the Lancaster, PA area and would love to meet her forever family. Liza Jean really doesn't show any signs of her senior citizen status; she is quite active and runs around the yard like a much younger dog. She loves being outside exploring. Liza Jean will respond to her name, is very quick to please, and easily redirected. Liza Jean is working hard on her house training and loves her cheese reward when she goes potty outside. We would love for Liza Jean to have a home with a fenced in yard so she can play freely, but it is not a requirement. Liza Jean is up to date on her shots and is spayed. If you are interested in being this girls best friend, please go to Charlie’s Crusaders website (www.charliescrusaders.org) to fill out an application. Story
Meet Dallas: Dallas is a 13 week old (as of July 3, 2026) lab / collie mix (best guess) that weighs about 15 pounds. This sweet litter of Wardell pups (Clementine, Sierra, Dakota, Dallas, Flint and Ranger) was found under an abandoned farm house in Arkansas with their mama (Paisley) taking care of them. Our rescue went to get them and now have them safe and sound. Dallas is being fostered in the south and would love to catch the next freedom ride north to Pennsylvania on June 27th to meet more prospective families! Dallas, and this full litter, is a group of your typical very playful, sweet and cuddly puppies! As a puppy, Dallas will need some patience while he works on his house training. We would love for Dallas to have a home with a fenced in yard for him to run and play freely as he grows. Dallas is up to date on his puppy shots and will need to be neutered when age appropriate. If you are interested in giving this sweet pup lots of love and a great life, please go to Charlie’s Crusaders website (www.charliescrusaders.org) to fill out an application. Story
Meet Bingo: Bingo is an 11 year old (as of April 2026) Jack Russell / border collie mix (best guess) that weighs about 21 pounds. Bingo was surrendered by her owner with her sister, Liza Jean, in a small rural shelter in early April 2026. The woman had recently lost her husband and her home and was having to move into a new place that only allowed 2 dogs but she had 4. She was very distraught at the situation, but had no other choice. Bingo was terribly stressed at the shelter where she only stayed a day or so before we were able to take her in. She was never combative or aggressive, but very shut down and stressed. Bingo took a few days to decompress and come out of her shell once in her foster home. Bingo has struggled with losing her only known home, but she now likes to come to her foster to be petted and will sit in his lap for a while. Bingo wags her tail when he comes in from anywhere. Bingo is currently being fostered in the Landisville, PA area and would love to meet her forever family. Bingo may need patience and understanding from her new family while she adjusts to another change in her living situation. Bingo can run and play in the yard like a much younger dog and it is clear she can feel so happy when comfortable. Bingo was trained to use a doggie door to use the bathroom, but is learning a more traditional method in her current foster home. We would love for Bingo to have a home with a fenced in yard so she can play freely, but it is not a requirement. Bingo is up to date on her shots and is spayed. If you are interested in showing this confused lady the consistent love she deserves, please go to Charlie’s Crusaders website (www.charliescrusaders.org) to fill out an application. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs.  Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families.  We have many sponsorship dogs.  Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :) When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :)  So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue.  Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding.  Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :) Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us! Image growing up in a yard with a human throwing you food over a fence and pouring water in your already dirty water day after day.  The human never touched you or the other three dogs in the yard and you lived outside like this summer, winter spring and fall until finally 8 years into your life someone reported your owner to the authorities and they finally came to save you!  You found yourself placed in a box separate from the only friends you had ever known.  Taken to a noisy shelter, poked, probed, bathed and then stuck in a kennel alone.  WOW SCARY right???  Well that was the experience for Max's, his best friend Moose and his 2 other fur buddies.  Unfortunately the oldest of the 4 was quite ill and passed away :(   The other one was adopted and seems to be doing well.  Max's was very shut down until the shelter staff placed him with Moose and then they saw Max's come back to life!   We couldn't allow Max's to lose the only friend he has ever had on this earth so we are taking both boys and they will only be adopted as a bonded pair with a contract signed that they will NOT be separated!! Max's & Moose will have to learn to live in a home, walk on a leash and understand what it is like to be valued and actually LOVED by a human.  If you would like to be considered for the boys please fill out an adoption application.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please fill out an adoption application: Adoption application (Dog) Adoption Application (Cat)   Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not. A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop! Story
Meet MJ (“Max”)! Max is a handsome 1-year-old Border Collie mix with brains, energy, and a whole lot of love to give! This smart boy is neutered, crate trained, house trained, and eager to learn. He already knows sit, lay down, wait, and stay, and he’s currently mastering spin and place. Max absolutely loves people and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. He’s happiest when he has room to run, play, and frolic in the yard—sometimes with a few excited barks to let everyone know he’s having the best day ever! Because of his herding breed mix and active nature, Max would thrive with an active family and a securely fenced yard where he can safely burn off energy and enjoy outdoor adventures. While Max adores dogs and humans alike, a home without cats is best for him. This young boy is looking for a family that will continue his training, keep his mind busy, and give him the love and exercise he craves. In return, Max will reward you with loyalty, fun, and endless affection. Could Max be the perfect addition to your family?

Story
Meet Pearidge: Pearidge is a 12 week old (as of July 9, 2026) Aussie / hound(beagle?) mix (best guess) that weighs 19 pounds. This adorable litter of “P pups” (Pearidge, Pierre and Peabody) was found in a ditch on a remote country road in the middle of nowhere where Mississippi. There were no houses around, just woods for miles. These poor pups were in pitiful condition, tiny, covered in fleas, and full of parasites. We luckily had someone find them and contact us and they are clean and healthy now! Pearidge is being fostered in the south and would love to catch the next freedom ride north to Pennsylvania to meet more prospective families! Pearidge and his brothers are all super sweet, happy, playful puppies looking for love and affection!  Pearidge is such a friendly guy that loves meeting people. As a puppy, Pearidge will need some patience while he works on his house training. We would love for Pearidge to have a home with a fenced in yard for him to run and play freely as he grows. Meet Cary: Cary is about a 1 year old (as of May 2026) Kelpie / Jack Russel / Cur mix (best guess?) that weighs about 29 pounds. Cary was at a shelter in Tennessee and not getting any interest so he was marked to euthanize to make room for more. Fortunately we heard about the situation and had a foster find a spot for him. Cary is currently being fostered in the south and would love to take the freedom ride north to Pennsylvania to meet more prospective families. Cary is incredibly friendly with both people and dogs. Cary is a bundle of energy as well as a playful puppy. Cary is just the right size and temperament for being a lap buddy or bed buddy as well as a buddy for taking for long walks.
