Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs.  Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families.  We have many sponsorship dogs.  Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :) When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :)  So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue.  Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding.  Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :) Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us! Image growing up in a yard with a human throwing you food over a fence and pouring water in your already dirty water day after day.  The human never touched you or the other three dogs in the yard and you lived outside like this summer, winter spring and fall until finally 8 years into your life someone reported your owner to the authorities and they finally came to save you!  You found yourself placed in a box separate from the only friends you had ever known.  Taken to a noisy shelter, poked, probed, bathed and then stuck in a kennel alone.  WOW SCARY right???  Well that was the experience for Max's, his best friend Moose and his 2 other fur buddies.  Unfortunately the oldest of the 4 was quite ill and passed away :(   The other one was adopted and seems to be doing well.  Max's was very shut down until the shelter staff placed him with Moose and then they saw Max's come back to life!   We couldn't allow Max's to lose the only friend he has ever had on this earth so we are taking both boys and they will only be adopted as a bonded pair with a contract signed that they will NOT be separated!! Max's & Moose will have to learn to live in a home, walk on a leash and understand what it is like to be valued and actually LOVED by a human.  If you would like to be considered for the boys please fill out an adoption application.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please fill out an adoption application: Adoption application (Dog) Adoption Application (Cat)   Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not. A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop! Meet MooMoo: MooMoo is a 4 month old (as of January 2026) border collie mix (best guess) that weighs about 23 pounds. MooMoo was found as a stray on the streets in Lepanto, Arkansas and luckily was connected with our rescue. MooMoo is being fostered in the south and would love to catch the freedom ride north to Pennsylvania to meet more prospective families! MooMoo is a very sweet and friendly boy who loves to be held and cuddled! MooMoo is great with people, children and other dogs. MooMoo is crate trained and working on his house training. We would love for MooMoo to have a home with a fenced in yard for him to run and play freely. MooMoo is up to date on his puppy shots and will be neutered in mid January. If you are interested in adding this snuggle bug into your life, please go to Charlie’s Crusaders website (www.charliescrusaders.org) to fill out an application. Story
Dexter is a majestic, 4-year-old Golden Retriever/Great Pyrenees mix with a heart as big as his fluffy pawsand a protective streak that runs just as deep. True to his breed (pyrenees experience not required but highly preferred), hes a born guardian who takes his job of watching over his people very seriously. Strangers? Suspicious. Delivery drivers? Definitely up to something. But once youre in his circle of trust, youll have the most loyal, loving companion you could ask for. This gentle giant was surrendered due to a change in his familys living situation & becoming too protective over his family. Now, he is searching for a kind-hearted home where he can feel safe, loved, and cherished. This big guy isnt looking for the fast lanehes looking for someone patient, kind, and willing to go at his pace (meaning several meet and greets). Hes had a lot to carry on those broad shoulders and needs a calm, confident human who understands that building trust with a dog like Dexter is a slow dance, not a sprint. Once he trusts you, he will shower you with affection, offering all the hugs and cuddles a dog can give!Dexter is deeply bonded to his people and wants nothing more than to feel safeand to make sure youre safe too. That instinct to protect is written into his DNA, and while its admirable, its something that will need thoughtful guidance. Dexter needs a home thats not only loving and patient, but also committed to working with a professional trainer to help him understand that he doesnt have to take on the world alone. We will cover the cost of a few training sessions after adoption. Hes a worrier. Hes cautious with new people, barks to alert, and can be reactive if he feels unsure or threatened. With the right training and structure, Dexter has the potential to relax into a more balanced and confident version of himself. Hes incredibly smart and willinghe just needs the right human to show him the way.At heart, he is a big, soft teddy bear who just wants to be close to his loved ones. Dexter would thrive in a quiet, low-traffic home where he can decompress, gain confidence, and be understood. A securely fenced yard is highly preferred; he loves to patrol, lounge in the sun, and keep watch like the noble guardian he was born to be. Hes not cut out for apartment living or busy neighborhoodstoo much hustle and bustle overwhelms him. Dexter prefers quality over quantity in his friendships. Bonus points if you have no plans for an overly social lifestyle. Hes not the dog for everyonebut for the right person, hell be everything. If youve got the heart to go slow, Dexter might just be your forever shadow. Having a Great Pyrenees is like having your own guardian angelin the shape of a 75-pound cloud with paws.Hes not a fan of chaos or surprises, and small children are too much for his peace-loving nature. Older teens or adults who respect his boundaries and understand the value of slow connection would be ideal. He may be happiest as the only dog in the home so he can soak up all your attention and feel secure. He has lived with other animals before and can coexist peacefully with calm, respectful dogsespecially if he has a chance to get to know them gradually. We would hold meet & greets with any other current dogs. On walks, Dexter loves to sniff everything he can, so he is a curious companion. He could use a bit of a refresher when it comes to leash manners, as he tends to get a little excited about all the wonderful scents and pulls on the leash sometimes. With some gentle training, hell be walking like a pro in no time!Dexter is crate-trained and house-trained, so he is well-behaved indoors. He enjoys lounging around but is always up for a quiet stroll or a bit of outdoor playtime if the mood strikes. He is the perfect companion for someone who appreciates a calm, affectionate dog with a loving nature. This handsome boy isnt for first-time dog owners, but hell absolutely thrive with someone experienced, patient, and committed to doing things the right waynot the fast way. Once he lets you in, youll never want to imagine life without him. With structure, consistency, and the support of a skilled trainer, Dexter has all the potential to blossom into the kind of companion who makes you feel like the most important person in the world. If you believe in second chances, value deep connections, and have the heart (and time) to help a dog like Dexter feel safe, seen, and understoodhe just might be waiting for you.If you would like to meet Dexter, please complete an application on our website: www.crcpa.orgCanine Rescue of Central PAKennel #3443

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.NOTE- FRED IS LISTED AS A COURTESY FOR AN INDIVIDUAL ASKING TO REHOME THEIR PET.  PLEASE SEE CONTACT INFO BELOW. Please contact:  Lara208-629-9768 hannonlara@gmail.com Energy level: Moderate — playful outside, calm indoors   1. Overview & Core TemperamentFred is a sensitive, sweet, emotionally intuitive herding-breed mix who forms deep, meaningful bonds with the people he trusts. Once he feels safe, he becomes affectionate, playful, gentle, has a quirky smile, connected, and eager to be near his person. He settles well in the home, often resting at your feet or choosing a comfortable nearby spot. He likes being close but is not clingy; he simply enjoys companionship from a place of safety.Fred thrives with calm, predictable handling, gentle voices, and slow movements that give him space to build trust at his own pace. 2. Sensitivity & Emotional NeedsFred is highly sensitive and easily overwhelmed by unfamiliar people, sudden movement into hisspace, loud or chaotic environments, and unpredictability. He needs slow introductions, time to observe, soft tones, gentle body language, consistent routines, and a peaceful, stable environment. With these supports, he warms up beautifully and becomes affectionate, expressive, and securely attached. 3. Fear-Based BehaviorsFred has fear-based reactivity with new people, not true aggression. When overwhelmed, he maygrowl or snap if he feels cornered or pressured. With proper introductions and calm interactions, these behaviors reduce significantly or disappear. 4. Separation & Isolation AnxietyFred has separation and isolation anxiety. When left alone, he may pace, bark, whine, pantexcessively, drool excessively, become restless, or struggle to settle. Despite this distress, he has never been destructive and does not soil indoors. He needs gradual alone-time training, consistency, predictability, a low-stress environment, andpossibly a calm dog companion. 5. Behavior with Other DogsFred plays well with other dogs, adjusts his energy appropriately, relaxes around calm dogs, gainsconfidence from a steady canine companion, and checks in frequently with his person. On leash, he may show mild reactivity to other dogs on leash at close ranges but redirects well.Off leash he is appropriate, social, playful, and not aggressive.6. Outdoor Behavior & WalksFred is an excellent walking companion with good leash manners and strong impulse control. Hecalmly observes deer and responds immediately to cues.7. Indoor BehaviorIndoors, Fred is calm, quiet, and relaxed. He settles easily and is not clingy or demanding. He is aneasy, gentle house companion.8. Strengths• affectionate once bonded• gentle with treats• good with dogs• responsive to cues• house-trained• calm in the car• playful outdoors, mellow indoors• emotionally attuned• intelligent and sensitive• checks in often• settles beautifully after exercise9. ChallengesFred’s challenges include fear-based reactivity, separation anxiety, environmental sensitivity, and need for slow introductions.10. Ideal HomeFred thrives with someone experienced, patient, and consistent, who can support gradual alone-time training and provide a stable environment. 11. Story
Bailey is 6 years old and she is a border collie mixed with schipperke. She's a cute little dog with a tuxedo coat and about 30 lbs. I love her very very much and even though we have had some trying times together over the years we always found a way to get through it. Unfortunately, now it seems there has come a point where something has come up that I don't think we can work through, and so I am looking for a new home for her. Bailey is a good dog, she is very intelligent, loyal, cuddly and loving, and cheerful. She definitely has her peculiarities though, most notably is that she doesn't get along with other pets (cats/dogs). She prefers to be left alone by dogs, but will bully cats and other animals if they let her. As far as health is concerned she is healthy and has all her vaccines. She need regular exercise, I take her to a local park and she plays fetch off leash to get her energy out. Ideally looking for not 1st time dog owners with access to land for her to play.
