Story
Current Location: Union Bridge, MD Meet Edgar Edgar is a one year old Border Collie and he is everything you would hope for in one of the most brilliant breeds on the planet. Playful, friendly, attentive, and almost unnervingly smart, Edgar is the kind of dog who is always thinking, always watching, and always ready for whatever comes next. He already knows sit, down, and paw, and he picks up new things with the kind of speed that will genuinely impress you. He is food motivated and deeply eager to please, which makes training him an absolute joy. He responds well to correction, takes direction beautifully, and brings his whole self to every interaction. When Edgar decides you are his person, you will feel it. This boy needs to move and think. Long walks, active play, and plenty of mental stimulation are not negotiable for Edgar, they are what he was built for. He would absolutely thrive in dog sports like agility, barn hunt, or obedience rallies. Anything fast, fun, and challenging is going to bring out the very best in him. An active family who loves to get outside and do things will find the most incredible partner in Edgar. But here is the thing about Border Collies that Edgar demonstrates perfectly. After a good run and a solid play session, he is more than happy to settle in and snuggle up with you for a movie night. He works hard and he rests well, and that balance makes him a genuinely wonderful companion for everyday life. He is house trained, crate trained, good with other dogs, great with kids, and friendly with new people. He does not mind being left alone, which speaks to his overall confidence and stability. He is loyal, engaged, and deeply interested in being close to his people whenever he can be. Edgar is not looking for just any home. He is looking for a family that will match his energy, challenge his mind, and reward his tremendous heart. If that sounds like you, Edgar is going to be the best decision you ever made.

Story
Bailey is a loving and energetic dog who is looking for a new home! She is an extremely smart and playful dog who love cuddles, fetch, and treats of any sort. At her core she is anxious and sweet and constantly looks for love and safety from those around, and we are hoping we can find someone here who can give that to her. Bailey is very energetic (border collie mix) and loves to be active. She loves playing tug-of-war and brain games but her absolute favorite activity is fetch with tennis balls. She is great off-leash and so we often go to parks where she runs around off-leash chasing tennis balls and rolling in the grass. A typical day for Bailey begins with an excursion to the park where she can play fetch and run around in the grass before coming home to have breakfast. If you are working from home on a particular day she may get a midday walk to stretch her legs and use the bathroom. She gets an evening walk around the city where she can get some more exercise in and some mental stimulation. Finally, before bed she goes outside briefly one last time before going to sleep. Bailey`s ideal home would involve new loving parents that have access to a good size yard or take the time to take her to parks/hiking. Being a border collie she is not suited for first-time dog owners or those without the capacity to fulfill her physical and mental needs. That being said, active households who like being outside and have the time to play games with her even inside are the best situations for her. She currently lives with a cat and they cohabitate fine. She can get a little reactive and overwhelmed with high-energy dogs that don`t respect her space at first. Bailey is house-trained and knows many commands. This includes basic obedience commands like sit, down, and roll, but also knows more advanced `tricks` like sit-pretty. She used to have separation anxiety but once she feels comfortable with her surroundings and parents she becomes much more relaxed. She does however not do well in crates . Bailey is spayed and up-to-date on all her vaccinations. Additionally, she has no health concerns and is a very healthy dog according to her vet. Things to Remember About Her ? Personality: She is a very anxious but loving dog. She will be nervous in new environments and with new people for some time, during which she will likely be more reserved, quiet, and have less energy. Once she feels safe with her people and her home her personality WILL change. She will become much mor

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs.  Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families.  We have many sponsorship dogs.  Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :) When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :)  So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue.  Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding.  Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :) Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us! Image growing up in a yard with a human throwing you food over a fence and pouring water in your already dirty water day after day.  The human never touched you or the other three dogs in the yard and you lived outside like this summer, winter spring and fall until finally 8 years into your life someone reported your owner to the authorities and they finally came to save you!  You found yourself placed in a box separate from the only friends you had ever known.  Taken to a noisy shelter, poked, probed, bathed and then stuck in a kennel alone.  WOW SCARY right???  Well that was the experience for Max's, his best friend Moose and his 2 other fur buddies.  Unfortunately the oldest of the 4 was quite ill and passed away :(   The other one was adopted and seems to be doing well.  Max's was very shut down until the shelter staff placed him with Moose and then they saw Max's come back to life!   We couldn't allow Max's to lose the only friend he has ever had on this earth so we are taking both boys and they will only be adopted as a bonded pair with a contract signed that they will NOT be separated!! Max's & Moose will have to learn to live in a home, walk on a leash and understand what it is like to be valued and actually LOVED by a human.  If you would like to be considered for the boys please fill out an adoption application.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please fill out an adoption application: Adoption application (Dog) Adoption Application (Cat)   Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not. A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop! Story
Meet Frank: Frank is a 10 week old (as of March 4, 2026) border collie mix (best guess) that weighs around 15 pounds. Frank was found in an Arkansas shelter with his Mama Fern and his brother. Our rescue heard about Fern and her tiny pups (Frank and Fritz) and were able to find a foster home to get them into a lower stress environment. Frank and his family are now being fostered in the Lancaster, PA area and are looking forward to meeting their prospective forever families! Frank is a sweet, playful, friendly and cuddly pup! As a puppy, Frank will need some patience while he works on his house training. We would love for Frank to have a home with a fenced in yard for him to run and play freely. Frank is getting up to date on his puppy shots and will be neutered when age appropriate. If you are interested in loving this cutie forever, please go to Charlie’s Crusaders website (www.charliescrusaders.org) to fill out an application. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant. Will and his sister were rescued as strays from an area where people don’t always take great care of their pets. When they first came into rescue, both of them were pretty shy and got stressed out easily by new places, car rides, or being away from their people. Once Will bonds with you, he turns into a total Velcro dog—he wants to be right by your side and will follow you from room to room. His separation anxiety has gotten a lot better, but he’d do best in a home where someone’s around most of the day. As long as he gets enough exercise and plenty of love every day, he’s chill—no excessive barking, no chewing up furniture. He’s never shown any aggression at all. Will’s an active boy who loves his daily walks. He’d be happiest in a home with a securely fenced yard so he can run around and play. One of his favorite things is zooming around the yard with a ball in his mouth, looking super happy. He really likes other dogs, though super dominant ones can make him a little nervous at first. With time and good experiences, he’s getting more confident around them. In his foster home, he’s living totally peacefully with a cat. Right now, RORR is working with a pro dog trainer to help Will build confidence when he’s in new situations. He’s super smart and picks things up fast—he’s already nailed house training, crate training, and basic commands. He can still feel a bit anxious around new people, dogs, or places, but he’s making steady progress. With patient handling and positive experiences, he just keeps getting braver. Will would thrive with someone who’s had experience with his breed and has the patience to keep helping him gain confidence by slowly introducing new things. Sticking with a professional trainer would keep him moving forward. For the right person, this smart, gentle boy will be the most loyal, loving shadow you could ask for.     If you are interested in Will, please fill out an application at: https://reachoutrescue.rescuegroups.org/forms/form?formid=4588    Or contact: rorrcanine@gmail.com   *** Click here to sponsor this dog! ***Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 5, 2026, 8:53 pm
