Story
Freckles across his nose, a little black “Batman mask,” happy tippy-taps when he’s excited, and a heart that clearly wants to belong… this is Holliday. Equal parts goofy charm and affectionate shadow, Holliday is the kind of dog who leans all the way into love. His biggest dream? A couch, a person, and permission to pretend he’s a lap dog. Want to see those adorable tippy taps and that little masked face in action? Head over to YouTube and then come right back to learn more about the boy who believes every good day should include affection, snacks, and a welcoming lap to climb into. https://youtu.be/lPFbycVn8XA Holliday is estimated to be about 2 years old and appears to be a Border Collie mix but given he is a rescue, breed and birthday cannot be guaranteed. From the moment you meet him, Holliday’s affectionate nature is easy to see. He absolutely lights up when people give him attention and has a charming little habit of doing “tippy taps” with his feet when he’s happy or excited. It’s the kind of happy motion that makes everyone around him smile whether they are meeting for the first time or its a familiar connection. And inside its only sweeter, he is affectionate and his aspirations for lap-dog life really shine. Holliday is more than happy to make the first move and will come in close to soak up the love and lean in for a new nestling nose kisses. He is still learning some of the everyday things that come with the cozy life as a family dog. For example, couches were a new concept to him. When invited up, he wasn’t quite sure how to get there at first and needed a little boost. Moments like that tell us he’s likely still discovering what a comfortable home life looks like. The good news is that he’s eager to connect with people, smart and very responsive to guidance, which makes him a wonderful boy to open your heart and home to. On leash, Holliday is enthusiastic and currently pulls a bit, especially when he sees other dogs he’d like to meet. Much of his life before rescue life was spent on a very short leash outdoors so the world is understandably very exciting to him right now. With a confident understanding handler he has been making great progress with continued leash training. He is also very responsive to direction, correction, and listens well when told “no.” With other dogs, Holliday shows friendly curiosity. When meeting dogs he likes to sniff hello and then wander off to explore the yard. Play is still a bit of a mystery to him, but with the right dog companion we have seen he learns quickly and is easily invited to play even if she doesn’t know the steps after that. When meeting new dogs he reads them well and respects boundaries and limits easily. We can see him being a wonderful fit for a home with medium-energy, similarly sized dogs. Holliday is also very food motivated, which is wonderful for training. He eats enthusiastically and takes treats gently. Because Holliday can be a little jumpy, which he is working on, when he’s excited to receive affection, we think he’ll do best in a home with older kids who won’t be knocked over by his enthusiastic greetings. His affection truly comes from a joyful place and is gentle, not rough or heavy footed. He just hasn’t quite learned yet that hugs don’t always have to involve all four feet leaving the ground, but some people do enjoy those big, warm dog hugs. A home with a yard would be ideal for Holliday while he continues building his leash skills, giving him space to stretch his legs and explore safely. With time, guidance, and a loving environment, we think this freckled little masked hero is going to blossom into a wonderful, lap-loving, whole-new-world companion and sidekick. If you’re looking for a dog who will greet you with tippy taps, shower you with affection, and happily grow alongside you as he learns what family life is all about, Holliday is your guy! Story
If you’ve heard the expression “personality plus” it was no doubt in reference to Robin. He’s sweet, cuddly, and loyal. Whether he’s proudly adding to his daily stick collection or inventing a new game, he brings an effortless charm to everything he does. Loves playing with his people: fetch, puzzles, you name it. Whip-smart, eager to learn, and motivated to please. Mastered basic obedience skills, crate trained, and walks nicely on leash after the excitement of the outing wears off a bit. If you’re an outdoorsy soul, Robin is your perfect match. He’s an adventure buddy with plenty of energy for hikes, camping, and weekend exploring. Daily exercise is the way to his heart, and an occasional bigger excursion is icing on the cake. When activity winds down, he’s ready to enjoy cuddle time with his favorite people. Robin is a fit for families with older kids and has lived with cats in the past. He gets along well with other dogs and would love a canine companion in his new home or could be an only dog. Find a video mashup of his adventures at https://youtu.be/ZBva0eIoGMU Robin’s health is managed through a hydrolyzed protein diet to keep his sensitive tummy stable. He takes seizure-prevention medication for episodes that occur roughly twice per year. The total cost for his specialized food and medication is about $180/mo, which is certainly a consideration for his new family. The return on investment is incalculable: it’s the reward of sharing life with an extraordinary dog. If you’re looking for a bright, affectionate, endlessly entertaining companion, Robin may just be the perfect addition to your family. He can’t wait to bring laughter, love, and lots of his precious sticks into his new home. APPLY TO ADOPT this handsome lad at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt Heart of a Border Collie will be screening applications for Robin. His adoption will be a private transaction between his existing and new families. A rehoming fee may be negotiated. Robin was adopted from Heart of a Border Collie in Minnesota as a puppy, and his family has now moved to the Seattle area where we hope to work with his family and help him find a new home.

Story
Moon Dove is pure sweetness wrapped up in a wiggly little puppy body. From the soft way she leans into affection to the proud little trot she does while carrying around her beloved toys, everything about her feels gentle, thoughtful, and easy to adore. At 6 months old and 27 lbs Moon Dove is still growing into herself, but she already has that special “heart dog” quality that sneaks up on people fast. Rescue rules apply, so breed and age are our best guess. Go watch Moon Dove on YouTube, then come right back to read more about this toy-loving cuddlebug. https://youtu.be/crfg_r8MYbw Moon Dove is currently fostered in a loving home with two resident dogs, a Jack Russell and a pittie/lab mix, along with two children ages 7 and 12 who are her favorite snuggle buddies on earth. Her foster family praises her for being smart, sweet, balanced, and wonderfully easy to live with. She is both house-trained and crate-trained and has settled beautifully into home life. She loves toys of every variety: chews, squeaky toys, enrichment toys, stuffies… all treasured equally. But our favorite detail may be the fact that she treats stuffed toys with surprising tenderness for a puppy her age. No dramatic toy explosions. No living room snowstorms made of stuffing. Just gentle carrying, little cuddle sessions, and the occasional proud presentation of her latest favorite. Moon has that lovely balance so many people hope for in a young dog. She absolutely enjoys playtime and puppy fun, but she is not nonstop chaos. She can bounce around, play hard, explore, and then settle beautifully afterward. Her energy level is comfortably medium, and with regular exercise and structure, she relaxes very nicely in the home. With people, Moon Dove is affectionate, social, and confident. She recently visited the our offices and she navigated it all beautifully, rolling over happily for affection and she genuinely enjoyed the attention of everyone she met. With other dogs, Moon Dove is still learning about the wide-variety of dog personalities that exist out there, which is very normal for an adolescent puppy. She has a wonderful relationship with the two resident dogs in her foster home, reading the less patient jack russell easily and matching the play of the pittie/lab mix. Although she is confident by nature, initial greetings with older, larger dogs can make her a little unsure and she may respond with some insecure puppy nipping or space-asking behaviors if overwhelmed (very normal and natural), but what stood out most was how quickly she recovered and how social she is once comfortable. After introductions she played well, shared affection and treats politely, and showed playful puppy energy with chasing, bouncing, and taking turns during play. Moon Dove is a smart girl and has sit mastered but between her smarts and treat motivated nature it is easy to see she is very trainable and would thrive with someone who enjoys guiding and developing a young dogs skills. There are moments in her play style that remind us a bit of herding-type dogs, so someone familiar with active, thoughtful breeds would especially appreciate her personality and potential. Moon Dove also met our house cat and she showed playful curiosity. She does not live with cats so if interested additional exposure and observation can be arranged to get a better view on her approach to a cat in a home. Her approach was playful and we know she enjoys chase so that potential is definitely there but she redirects appropriately and was able to move on to something else on her own at times. Because of that, dog-savvy cats and a home willing to continue careful introductions and observation while learning her long-term habits around feline friends would be key. Moon Dove feels like a puppy with an incredibly bright future. Sweet, emotionally soft, playful, affectionate, smart, eager to connect, and wonderfully responsive to guidance. She is not looking for perfection. She is looking for people willing to grow alongside her while she becomes the incredible dog she is already clearly on her way to being. Story
Charlie is a wonderful dog who we have had for almost six years. We suspect he is about seven or eight years old. Per a "Doggy DNA" test, he is 50% border collie, 25% lab, and 25% miscellaneous. Due to unforeseen life circumstances, we are not able to do the things that we used to do with Charlie. We'd love for him to go to a very active home - bonus points if it is a farm of some type that has a lot of room for him to run. Charlie does well just chilling at home, but we know that is not what he would prefer. He is goofy and loving. He was adopted and thus his complete history is not fully known. We have never rehomed a pet, so this is very very difficult and we hope that we can find a home where we can still receive updates on Charlie. We want to ensure Charlie goes to a responsible dog owning home that is loving and able to give Charlie the attention he deserves.
