UPDATE: I am now in Canada and all ready to go to my forever home! I have been with a nice family, but then they had more family members move in and so the home became a bit small for all the humans and two dogs. My new foster says the same things about me that my past foster said - I am quiet and relaxed at home, I love the outdoors and dog parks and I'm a good leash walker. One of my biggest qualties is that I'm loyal. I will go to the window when my foster mom leaves and I'll watch her as she goes. I'll also hear her call when she returns and my tail starts to wag as I stand at the window and watch her return.  I am highly intelligent, 100% housetrained, and able to understand several commands including sit, heel, out, bed, stay. I also am known for really wanting to please my humans, although I am still feeling a bit nervous around some strangers, particularly men, when we're out walking. Given what I have learned so far in such a short time, I'm sure that I will learn to relax and trust humans who I don't know. While I like socializing with other dogs, at home I prefer being the only dog in a family. I can accept another dog being there but I'm not interested in a relationship with him/her, only with my humans. Also, given that I have a fairly sensitive personality which can cause me to feel nervous at times, I am not a good match for a home with kids and perhaps not a cat. Because I am in a shelter environment, there is no way to know about cats, but because of my high energy levels, the staff doesn’t think it would be a good idea for me to be around cats, as I might chase them. I have a moderate energy level. I'm actually a fairly laid back kind of guy - I love to run and play outside and then come inside for a nice cuddle. I LOVE car rides and I love my food. This can make me responsive to treat rewards for learning new stuff but it also means that I like dining on my own so I can make sure that I don't miss out on any of my delicious food. Don't get me wrong, I do like to have other dogs to play with but perhaps not little dogs. For whatever reason, I'm wary of them but I love hanging out with dogs my own size or bigger. Please, I don't socialize with the feline types and I am a bit too rambunctious to make me a good companion for kids. I usually prefer to initiate greetings with people myself. When new people approach me suddenly, I get a bit of a fright, but I'll be affectionate once you get to know me. Sometimes I guard my food and can react towards some dogs when walking on leash, so I would need a little help and patience while I learn to trust other people and dogs. I have nipped at someone in the past and had a near miss with an attempted bite recently as I guarded my food. Since I am a border collie, I pride myself in learning fast and I do even better when I receive praise. A trainer has already helped me with introductions to new people and I no longer feel I have to guard my food as much as I have in the past, staying calm when adults walk by when I'm eating.
