LACEY is a 3-year-old female Boxer mix who weighs 55 lbs. She recently come into our program, and she's an instant favorite! She is unique in so many ways. She has the appearance of a Boxer, yet her coat indicates something else. It is velvety soft and plush. She is heavily speckled all over, like a Spaniel. Most of all, she has a personality that grabs you right away. She is that charming! She smiles and will readily give hugs and kisses! LACEY is currently participating in our Paws Behind Bars prison dog training program and doing very well! In a few short weeks, she has crate, leash and house-training checked! Now she's working on "sit," "stay," "down," and "come." So far, her social skills are good. She's met many inmates, in addition to her own, and she's got a wag and a hug for any of them. We are working her around the other adult dogs, and we are leaning towards a preference for male dogs. A submissive, younger female might be okay, too. Keep in mind, there are no outward signs of aggression, we are simply stating a preference. (We are all about the right fit!) Her overall energy level is moderate, and, in our world, that's a huge plus! Her perfect home? A fenced yard with an active family. ROMEO is a 2 year old male boxer mix that weighs 42 lbs. He is a lover of life! Adventure runs in his blood, perhaps hoping someday he'll find his Juliet!. When he does, there's no way she can resist his cute little underbite! Until then, he is bubbling with fun for everyone else he meets. He is young and he's athletic so an active home and owner would be best suited. He is excitable so older children and adults are preferred. He plays well with other dogs - younger ones that match his energy level are best. He's great in the car so he can go anywhere with you, preferably hiking. MEET DOPEY!!! He is a 10-12 week sweet boy that is part of our "Snow White" litter. They came to us from southeast KY with his siblings who are all ready for their forever homes! We are unsure of his breed but think they are a lab/hound mix. Your guess is as good as ours. He is a calm and inquisitive boy and would make a great addition to any family. Dopey needs a home that is willing to continue with his crate training as well as get him socialized with the outside world. I know I don't need to explain boxers to you as this is what you all do, but Rocky has all the traits. Loyal to family, active, loves company but is very much ok alone, sleeps great in his crate through the night. However, Rocky has not adjusted well to our very busy neighborhood with walkers, runner, bikers, and delivery people. He is not trustful of strangers and continues to bark at them and "test" them upon entry to our property. He does have a biting incident in which a neighbor walked up on him while he was cooling from a hot walk. Although she should have not walked up on him, she did and he did bite her arm. She is recovered fine. My husband and I do not have the lifestyle to drop everything and re-train him out of his distrust and anxiety around strangers. Nor do we want our visitors to be afraid to visit. He does do great on a shock collar. I honestly do not believe him to be a dangerous dog, but one that right now, seems to not like or trust strangers. (cont below)
