Story
DESPERATELY NEEDING HIS FOREVER FAMILY!!! Don't Roger's sweet eyes call to you?  Roger is an 9-10 year old boy, 75ish lb Lab mix who is sadly looking for a home where he can spend his senior years! His owner has health issues which are causing the sad decision to rehome Roger. He needs a home with no kids under the age of 16, as he tends to be a resource guarder when he has something in his mouth and someone tries to get it from him, so dog savvy owners would be best for this handsome boy. He is in a foster home and they say: "Roger lives with other dogs and he’s never had a problem in terms of getting into arguments or anything. I’ve NEVER heard him growl. He just forgets his size sometimes when he gets playful. He gets boisterous when he gets some zoomies and it can sort of spook other dogs that are more chill. Most of the time though he prefers to just be napping. When asked if he was good with cats- yes! He is fine with my senior cat... he avoids her. He gets very scared if she tries to swat at him….he's just a big baby basically who couldn’t hurt a fly. Roger is good on walks… just prefers going slow and taking his time, and he rides in a car well. This guy loves snuggling on the couch too! He is a sweet dog and just loves to be around me, loves to get affection and be petted, and follows me from room to room! Roger lets me know when people are at the house because he gets so excited and he barks some when they come in, but settles down quickly and melts into the background after about 5 minutes. He is very well house trained and has never had an accident in the house, and he will bark and let me know when he needs to go out or when he needs/wants something".  He used to have a doggie companion who passed away and he is said to miss his friend and is lonely. Story
Momo came into our lives about a month ago on a bit of a trial run gone wrong. We were supposed to have a few days with him to see how he got along in our home and how he adjusted to our cat. We found out they do not get along at all (more her than him), and that our space is not large enough to fully keep them separated long term without eventual issue, but his original owners were unable to take him back. In the month he’s been with us, he’s been a GREAT dog - our setup is just less than ideal for him. He’s incredibly loving and cuddly, has a lot of energy, and loves a good pet. The only “issue” he seems to have is with small animals, he chases after squirrels and rabbits on site and that’s the same issue with our cat. Had him around other dogs and he’s been fine, he’s lived around small children, really he just needs a space that is small animal free. Think he would be great for a family’s first dog or anyone who can give him the love and attention he deserves!

Story
She is a lovable beautiful dog. I cherish her. But she just is not good with new people other than me. I may be getting married and returning to work. I would not recommend her with children but she can get along with the rest of us Once She Gets to Know You. It takes caution and experience. I would hope she goes to an experienced adult who has a nice outdoor space to go out to. If you have more time with her than I will you may be able to accustom her to more people. The kennel did at Black Woof if you need another opinion. They said "she is an angel" She loves her master.

Story
You can describe Shorty as a playful weirdo. He loves to play with toys, chase birds, play with little dogs, he loves belly rubs, sitting on your lap and staring in your eyes. He is so smart, emotionally intelligent and a spectacular trick learner. He was rescued as a puppy and has lived in a home with other dogs his entire life, however recently he hasn’t been getting along with the other male in the house. He gets along great with the other female dog. Which is why we think he’d do best in a home with another female dog or as the only dog. He really loves attention and praise and would be a hilarious and loving addition to any home.

Story
What is better than big, expressive eyes, a black mask and ears, a heart of gold, and a silly personality? Nothing! The answer is nothing. 🥰 But how do you get ALL of those things? That must be your next question… Well, you adopt Lizzie! ❤️ Lizzie’s family was facing homelessness and, as difficult as it was, made the heartbreaking decision to surrender her. Lizzie lived with two little girls whom she absolutely adored, and we know she misses them so much. She would love nothing more than to be someone’s little one's best friend again. 🥹 Lizzie had never lived with another dog before coming to HSOC, but we’ve quickly learned that she really enjoys her canine friends! A doggy sibling (or even multiple) should be no problem for this social girl. As always, we require a meet and greet with any resident dogs to make sure everyone is a good match. As for kitties, we simply don’t know yet! We have a feeling Lizzie may do just fine, but we’ll always test dogs with our resident HSOC cats before sending them home with feline family members. 🐱 At 4 years old, Lizzie is housetrained and ready to find her forever family. She’s a Boxer mix with a whole lot of love, a whole lot of silliness, and an even bigger love for snuggles. ❤️ Want to play? Lizzie is ready to go! Want to lounge on the couch? She’s your girl. Need a nap buddy? Even better. Basically, Lizzie can be whatever kind of best friend you need. Submit an application to come meet Lizzie and find out for yourself just how special this silly, sweet girl is! 🐾

Story
🍀 Irish is still waiting for her lucky break...🍀 After spending her first year of life surviving on the streets, Irish finally found what she thought was her forever home. Tragically, her beloved owner passed away, leaving this sweet girl searching for a family all over again. Despite everything she's been through, Irish hasn't lost her joy. She is a happy, affectionate girl who would love nothing more than to make someone smile every single day. 💚 Irish loves other dogs. 💚 She's been around children ages 9 and up. 💚 She's wonderful on walks and is always happy to explore by your side. We aren't sure how she is with cats, but we'd be happy to cat test her for an approved applicant with feline family members. Irish doesn't have a high prey drive and enjoys being around other animals, so we think there's a good chance she'll do just fine. One fun bonus? Thanks to her previous owner, Irish already has a DNA test! She's primarily a mix of Boxer and Husky, giving her the perfect blend of playful energy, intelligence, and lovable goofiness. Irish is just 2 years old and is: 🐾 Spayed 🐾 Up to date on all vaccinations 🐾 Current on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention As with every HSOC adoption, Irish goes home with a 2-week adoption trial and a 30-day money-back guarantee. We want every adoption to be the perfect fit, for you and for our dogs. Irish has already endured more heartbreak than any dog should. Now all she needs is someone willing to give her the happy ending she's been waiting for. Could that be you? ❤️
