Story
Qira is a sweet Boxer mix that came to Faithful Friends Animal Advocates as a stray in March 2017, when she was 11 months old. After being at FFAA for whopping 3 years, she was finally adopted and had a home of her own for a couple of years before finding herself being abandoned when her family surrendered her to Animal Control. When Faithful Friends received the call that she was there, we gladly took her back, even though our heart was broken for this poor girl. Unfortunately when she came back to us the second time, she was blind in in her left eye, but she doesn’t let that slow her down!If you count the days Qira was here before being adopted (995 days) and the days she has been here since being brought back (715 + days), she has been here for a combined total of 1,710+ days. She has spent over 5 of her 8 years inside of a shelter, and that is FAR too long. She NEEDS and deserves to get out of this stressful shelter environment and finally have the home she has always dreamed of. She loves her stuffed animals and to play tug of war. She also enjoys going for leisurely walks and is always ready to snuggle up on the couch! With the blindness in her left eye, she is occasionally prone to startling easily. Because of this, she would do best in a home without young children. She is not reactive towards other dogs when she is out and about, but she tends to be selective when meeting them up close--she doesn't like excitable, hyperactive dogs to be in her space.

Rocky is an amazing, large dog. He is a beautiful Great Dane Shepherd Mix, and he's got all the good qualities too! Rocky is great with children, other dogs, and passed his cat test. He is house broke, does well on a leash, and knows basic commands. Rocky is overall just a keeper! He would make an excellent addition to your family if your looking for a large, cuddly friend!

Story
Culver is a 7 - 9 month old male Boxer mix. He has a high energy level, so he would benefit from an active family with a fenced yard and plenty of space for daily exercise and play. He is loose and wiggly when greeting, and comes when called for snuggles. He also loves to hop up into your lap for hugs and kisses. Culver does moderately pull on a leash, but with basic obedience training, he should be walking like a champ in no time! He is food motivated and knows the command sit. He mixes well with other dogs in a kennel, but is afraid of cats in the shelter environment. Dogs are generally tested with dogs of their own size; and dog meets with the resident dogs are always encouraged. Our cat test should be used as a general-purpose screening only to rule out overt aggression; we always recommend caution when introducing dogs to cats in the home. Recommendation on suitability of placement with children by their ages is based on behavioral observations including energy level and response to body handling. We never recommend leaving young children unsupervised with dogs, and we cannot guarantee the behavior of dogs with children, other pets, or cats. Behavior evaluations should be considered as a snapshot of the behavior of the dog at this point in time; JHS believes all dog families need to be prepared to invest time and energy into training as well as provide common sense management of their new dog. We always encourage family to do some research on the breeds or mixes of breeds prior to adoption as many can have some unique characteristics that may or may not fit into their families. Always remember that the majority of dogs at our shelter have been exposed to or may have kennel cough. Kennel cough is contagious to other dogs, please talk to your vet if you have any questions about kennel cough prior to adoption. Please ask your adoption counselor at time of adoption if you have any unanswered questions regarding illnesses and treatments of the pet that you are adopting. Story
*SPONSORED*His name is Romie, but he should really be called Romeo 🌹💘 This loverboy is a tiny little pittie mix—under 50 lbs. He has been here for nearly 11 whole months, and we can’t figure out why! He has everything: looks, personality, and all the love in the world to give. Romie’s favorite hobbies include giving out hugs, receiving treats, and being the most joyous presence ever to light up the room that he is in. When he spends time with me as office dog, despite being overjoyed that he is out of his kennel, he remains polite and pleasant to share space with. He ignores the bevy of toys laid out in front him in favor of taking a nap on the doggy bed, working hard to get his stuffed Kong squeaky-clean, or taking some time to wiggle and wag at any human in his close vicinity. Sometimes I will look over at him and he is just staring up at me, tail wagging slowly and gently, waiting for me acknowledge once again what a sweetheart he is.Having been here for over 335 days has left its mark on Romie. Kennel stress has taken its toll on not just his mind but his body too–it is getting harder to keep weight on him, and when his kennel stress reaches its most frantic heights, his muzzle will end up scraped and bleeding from his panic. He was sensitive from the moment he came into the shelter as well as incredibly people oriented. Having limited affection day-to-day combined with his length of stay and just inherent softness made him the perfect candidate for kennel stress to dig in its claws. This means that he presents poorly and gets overlooked for other dogs that show as calmer inside their kennels. So despite him being a lower energy dog that would likely be contended with an evening jaunt, five minutes of training, and a nice chew to quiet down with (and of course limitless cuddles), he appears like a high-energy, high-maintenance, and even mean dog. But Romie outside of his kennel could not be further than the truth. He is not bad on a leash, enjoys splashing in water, and spends quality time every day in a puppy playgroup with his fellow long-stay peer, Holiday. We are eagerly waiting for someone to come by willing to give him that chance– to look past the way he reacts in the kennel and also wait for him to truly decompress after his incomprehensibly long stay–the trauma that incurs just via being in a shelter truly does leave a mark on a dog’s mental state, but sometimes it takes awhile to manifest after suppressing natural behaviors for so long.So please, come give this sparkly-eyed, enthusiastically-adoring dog the chance he deserves and so desperately needs. We are dreading acknowledging the fast approaching 1-year-anniversary of his arrival, and we are begging for someone to step in before he hits that mark. He needs this life-saving reprieve.

Story
Cobalt is a beautiful black-and-white 70 lb. dog with striking blue eyes estimated to be around two years old. He came in with his brother River. The two had been discovered trapped in a home for at least two weeks with their deceased owner. They were extremely underweight and frightened, and their road to recovery was a long one. He has been on shelter for over 145 days and only recently began to put on weight. River was recently adopted by a wonderful family which we are so overjoyed about, but that does mean Cobalt has now been left by himself in the shelter while his brother and playgroup partner acclimates to farm life. Cobalt still tends to be cautious and can take awhile to warm up, but staff know him to be a happy, goofy, and silly dog. He is the most himself when he is outside playing and running--in fact, he transforms into a totally different dog whilst outside. It's like the sunshine and incipient spring air fill him with a rush of confidence. His inherent sensitivity also means that in combination with his length of stay (nearly six months) plus his pre-existing trauma, kennel life has him rapidly deteriorating and frantic to get out of here. Even if you are not ready to bring a dog permanently in your life, we would love to find a respite fosterer for Cobalt. He desperately needs a break, and whether that comes in the form of someone taking him on long sniff walks at the shelter, taking him for a doggy date out, or fostering him (both long-term and short are options we are willing to discuss), we would appreciate someone stepping up to care for him in this way. Interacting with him this way allows us to learn more about him than we ever could in the shelter, opens his mind and heart up to interact positively with more people, and gives him a more solid foundation to fall back on when he is stressed and coping poorly. As much as we love and care for him and actively work to experiment with ways to offer him some reprieve, the fact remains that for an already anxious or vulnerable dog, a shelter or kennel weighs heavily on their mental health and resilience factor. Please share his story; he needs all the networking and help that he can get.

Story
On a dreary Sunday in January as we closed up for the day, we heard scratching and crying coming from our front door. Imagine our shock when we saw a tiny, black-and-white puppy sitting out in the cold and a car peeling out of the parking lot. With no other choice, we brought in the dumped puppy we named Daryl Dixon and began his intake process. We are now searching for a foster-to-adopt family for Mr. Daryl. He does have demodex mange, a non-contagious skin condition. He is already looking better since his first round of treatment, and the tea-tree oil shampoo baths help his itching a LOT. However, he does have a few more rounds of treatment to go with a month wait between each. This is why we would like him to go to a foster-to-adopt home–we will cover cost of treatment and supplies, and he gets to go home and not spend his entire puppyhood in a kennel.Daryl is a tough little puppy who keeps up well with all the other puppies, even those triple his size. He has an unmistakable scrappiness and is full of heart. When he spends time as office dog, he is jubilant and thoroughly enjoys his time chewing toys in the big dog bed. He confidently hops up on the couch to continue his play and gleefully joins me in games of tug and fetch. He is a fairly active guy, lots of puppy energy still, but he is not frantic with his movement. He takes initiative to offer sits and eye contact for treats and is overall composed and pleasant to spend time with. I think that he is a puppy with great potential that I do not want to waste–these weeks and months are crucial to help him become a well-rounded member of society. If you are interested in meeting Daryl, feel free to fill out an application or email me (adoption manager) directly at adopt.ffaa@gmail.com if you have further questions. Let’s get Daryl outta here and on the road to his forever home!
