Story
Peanut Butter is a gorgeous calico cat who came to us from another shelter when her owner could no longer care for her. She is happier in the cat room at our vet's office, but she would be even happier in your home with less noise and activity. She is a sweetheart who loves attention. She's had a bit of a stressful life – losing the only home she ever knew - and she definitely stress eats (sound familiar to anyone?), so she could use a bit of a diet.  While she tolerates the other cats in the cat room, she tends to spend most of her time comfortable in the safe surrounds of her cat condo with a food bowl nearby. She doesn't have any interest in playing with the other cats, and if they get too close to "her" food bowl, she may swat at them to warn them away, but she does not go after them. Because of that, she is best as the only cat in a household or in a house with a laid back, older cat who is used to other cats already.  Peanut Butter is available for adoption at our vet's office where she is housed in the cat room there. Glow is up to date with routine shots, litter box trained, altered and micro chipped. For more information, please call or text 630-207-1238

Story
Born: April 11, 2024 Adoption Donation: $200 Meet Friday – A Gentle Soul Looking for Love Friday is a beautiful calico cutie with a quiet, gentle nature. Coming from a hoarding situation, she’s still learning to trust people, but one thing is for sure—she absolutely loves other cats! Having feline friends gives her confidence, and she would thrive in a home with a social, friendly kitty to show her the ropes. Though she’s very shy, Friday has a sweet heart and just needs a patient adopter who will give her the time and space to feel safe. If you have a calm home and a kind heart (and maybe a kitty friend waiting), Friday might be the perfect addition to your family. Are you the one to give this shy girl the love and security she deserves? All cats are microchipped, neutered, current on all vaccines, and FeLV/FIV tested at the time of adoption. An application is required to view our adoptable pets. All household members and any dogs from the household need to be present at the time of your appointment (unless your dog has had prior exposure to cats).  A photo ID will be required at the time of adoption. Appointments are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. All applications are considered general. Specific animals are NOT put on hold for adoption. When you visit, our adoption counselors will be able to make suggestions based on the type of pet you are looking for and help you find the best fit for your family. Animal House Shelter cannot guarantee the breeds of the adoptable animals. The animals are posted on the website as the breed or breed mix based on their physical characteristics they most resemble. We also cannot guarantee the ages of our adoptable animals. We look forward to seeing you soon! Story
Meet Marsha – The Cozy Queen of Cuddles and Curiosity! Marsha is a confident little tortico (that’s tortie + calico magic!) with a soft heart and a big personality. Equal parts lap cat and curious explorer, Marsha knows how to charm a room with just one look from her golden eyes. When she’s not snuggled up next to you purring like a tiny engine, you’ll find her inspecting every corner of the house—yes, even the one drawer you forgot about. She adores window naps, feather wand chases, and curling up beside you while you work, read, or just relax. Marsha is great with kids, cats, and respectful pups, and she absolutely must go to a home with another young cat who can match her playful energy and help her stay socially enriched. She loves to have a buddy to romp with before settling in for a cozy cuddle session. If you're looking for a sweet, spunky sidekick who’s equal parts affectionate and independent, Marsha is ready to curl up right into your heart. Name: AyaBreed: Calico/DSHDOB: 4/13/2025Good with kids: YESGood with dogs: YESGood with cats: YESFoster location:  Rockford, IL Adoption fee: $200 a kitten or $350 for a pair of kittens under 2 years of age. Fun Bio: If interested in a pet from us please fill out the adoption application that is located on our website.  We process applications in the order in which they are received.   We always recommend playtime, positive reinforcement training and a regular schedule for feeding times when bringing a new cat/kitten into your home. Adjustment takes time for both you and your new family member, so remember to be patient and enjoy this new and exciting time! Included in the adoption fee are age appropriate vaccinations, FeLV/FIV testing (done at 26 weeks), deworming, spay or neuter surgery, and microchip. Anti-Declawing Policy: All cats and kittens will have a no declaw policy in their adoption contract with us!   Declawing is a series of bone amputations.  Declawing is more accurately described by the term de-knuckling and is not merely the removal of the claws, as the term “declawing” implies.  In humans, fingernails grow from the skin, but in animals that hunt prey, the claws grow from the bone; therefore, the last bone is amputated so the claw cannot re-grow.  Declawing is one of the most painful, routinely performed procedures in all of veterinary medicine.  Each toe of the cat is amputated at the first joint.  Declawing a cat is equivalent in a person to amputating the entire first knuckle of every finger.  Declawing is done strictly for the benefit of the owner.  There are NO benefits to the cat and NO good reasons to declaw. Declawing can lead to behavior changes.  A declawed cat has no way to defend itself and may resort to biting more often.  Due to pain, they may stop using the litter box.  There are humane alternatives to declawing.  Cats can be trained to use scratching posts.  They should have their nails trimmed regularly.  There is double sided sticky tape that can be put on furniture to deter a cat from scratching there.  There are also nail caps called Soft Paws that are glued onto a cat's nail without harm.   ##2383680##

Story
Nessy was adopted in 2022. We received a call on March 16th from Anti-Cruelty Society in Chicago that Nessy was just pushed across the counter and the "owner" left. We did have contact with the original adopter that said they did not want her back and in fact gave her away. We are taking a guess that Nessy was relinquished due to improper urination since she had a bad urinary tract infection that was detected when she was in foster. She has been treated for the urinary tract infection and is medically ready to go! Nessy is a sweet girl that loves to play with her toys and her pickle is her favorite! We are unsure of how Nessy would do with other cats, dogs, and children. As always, please be sure to allow a slow introduction with each animal having their own space in the home. Have a chat with an adoption counselor for getting to know you tips!

Story
Cookies and Creme was relinquished to animal control because she was not getting along with the cats in the home. She did get along with one cat at animal control that respected her space. Cookies and Creme is a beautiful black and white, one year old cat, that is looking for her forever home. Cookies and Creme was a relinquish to animal control and then transferred to us. She did does seem to get along with other cats that respected her space but dogs and children are unknown. As always, please be sure to allow a slow introduction with each animal having their own space in the home. Have a chat with an adoption counselor for getting to know you tips!

Story
*when Mickey plays he does use his claws. Because of this, we are recommending no children. He is not being aggressive, just doesn’t know how to politely play. Mickey will need time to adjust to a new home and new pets. This can take some time.* I'm Mickey, I'm so fine I'll blow your mind! Hey Mickey! Some nice people found me trying to survive outside with a bad leg that I'd had all my life. That thing was useless! Anyway these nice animal control people found a vet to help me, and now I can walk around fine without that bad leg getting caught on stuff. My foster mom helped me figure out how to do cat stuff while I was healing up, so litter boxes and climbing things aren't a problem for me now. I love scratch pads and posts a lot. Wand toys are ok but they're kinda hard for me to keep up with right now. I like catnip toys, especially the ones my foster mom makes. They're the best! I'm all ready to be someone's Valentine too, I have a heart shaped spot on my fur!
