Story
My name is Flora. I’m a 2 year old long haired calico with a lot of white in my coloring, a beautiful calico tail and pretty green eyes. I was thankfully surrendered by a woman who didn’t treat me well and when Kitty Connection met me they were concerned about my muscle tone and my coat being in very poor condition. That was over a month ago. They have given me lots of time with just rest and recuperation. It took me about a week to come out from under my blanket and I still find this to be my most safe place. Second most safe place is under the desk. I instinctively run when my foster mom comes up to me but after the first week I realized I wanted to be touched and will come back to her for lots of petting and nuzzling my nose into her hand especially if she stops too soon. My appetite is great, i'm gaining weight and my coat looks much better but I do still need more time to learn to trust humans. My foster mom has some other cats and I can’t figure out yet what I think about them. One of them will chase me around the house and I don’t like it, but if he’s not chasing me I don’t mind sitting next to him under the desk. I’ve only gone out to explore the rest of the house a few times because this boy just doesn’t know how to give me space! I am sharing my room with a kitten right now and I am curious about him so I stay out from under my blanket for more time during the day. Maybe I’m learning to be a little braver from him because I don’t hide as quickly and when I do I will come back out again sooner. I really want to find my person….someone who has the patience I need to continue learning that humans can be good. I think Im a quiet, low key kind of girl and whoever lives with me should enjoy that about me. I might be ok with another cat as long as they are gentle and low key like me but I don’t think I would do well with the unpredictability of either young children or dogs. If I sound like your kind of girl then i'd love to meet you!

Story
Lola is a gorgeous senior calico that came to us from a complicated 17 cat neglect situation. She is a very shy girl, borderline spirit cat (a rarely seen kitty companion), but she has been coming out of her shell with us over time and we think she will thrive in a quiet home, perhaps with a friendly kitty or two to show her that humans are just weird looking besties. No kids or dogs please, big noises are a little too new and scary for our gentle girl.  Every PALS cat and kitten has been spayed/neutered, microchipped, tested negative for FeLV/FIV and is up-to-date on vaccinations. A note about kittens: if you are adopting a kitten, they may need to complete their FVRCP (distemper) series and may not be old enough for their rabies vaccination. These essential vaccines will be the responsibility of their new owner. Detailed vet records and a calendar of vaccination due dates will be provided. The PALS Adoption Center, located inside PetSmart at 10 Traders Way in Salem, MA (just off Highland Ave/Rte 107) BY APPOINTMENT ONLY TO APPROVED ADOPTERS.  Adoption applications can be found online at www.palscats.org.  A completed application is not necessarily an approved application. We do ask for written landlord approval if you rent, or proof of home ownership (water bill, etc.) We will also check your vet references.  You will be contacted by our adoption staff once your application has been approved.  Please note it can take up to 48 hours. Our online sites are updated regularly, but we can not guarantee that a cat you see here is still available. Please email if you have any questions regarding the adoption process or our available cats and kittens. PALS is an all-volunteer, no-kill rescue group. Each and every cat and kitten has been rescued locally. May 26, 2026, 12:54 pm

Story
My name is Natalie, and at just under a year old, I am officially in my “young, fabulous, and ready to be adored” era. I’m on the lookout for a home that needs a stunning feline to lounge gracefully in the window — you know, the kind that makes the neighbors slow down just to admire me. I fully intend to be the cat that makes the whole world a little jealous. But beauty isn’t my only talent. I absolutely love attention. I’m the kind of girl who will happily soak up your affection, lean into your pets, and remind you daily that you made the best decision bringing me home. Whether I’m perched elegantly in a sunny spot, keeping you company while you unwind, or following you around just to be near you, I’m ready to be your sweet, devoted companion. If you’ve been searching for that perfect mix of charm, grace, and affectionate personality — I just might be your girl. For more information about adopting Natalie, please email ccrtennessee@gmail.com I can’t wait to find my forever window… I mean, home. March 7, 2026, 12:24 pm

Story
🐾 Two Sweet Sisters Need a New Home — Cookie & Elf, ~5 Years Old (Shrewsbury, MA) Cookie and Elf are a bonded pair of tortoiseshell cats looking for their forever home together. They've lived with us for five years and have been wonderful companions — affectionate, playful, and social with people. About them: ~5 years old, both spayed, up to date on all vaccinations and preventative care Strictly indoor cats Bonded pair — they do best (and are happiest) together, as you can tell from the photos Love window watching, cuddles, and playtime Social and gentle Why we're rehoming: We're expecting our second child and relocating internationally — it's simply too much transition for them to handle well, and they deserve a stable, loving home. We're looking for: A calm household that can take both cats. Ideally someone with cat experience. We're happy to share their full vet history and answer any questions. 📍 Shrewsbury, MA | 🏠 Indoor only | 💉 Fully vaccinated

Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Minnow is a 5 year old neutered male cat. Here’s what his foster volunteers say about him: How would you describe the cat's general personality?  Minnow is a sweet, social boy who loves to be around his humans as well as any other pets in the house too.  He is playful and food driven, making him easy to please! He spent his first few years in an abusive home (he was kicked, had his tail pulled, and had things thrown at him, through no fault of his own), making it even more meaningful how much he still trusts and admires humans. Does the cat enjoy being pet?  Yes, Minnow loves to be pet!  He closes his eyes and purrs when he's really enjoying it. If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet?  His favorite spots seem to be behind his ears, the top of his neck, and his back. Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched?  None that we've noticed, but as a general rule I never pet cats on their bellies, so do so at your own risk! Does the cat come on your lap?  Occasionally, usually if there is a Churu treat involved. Does the cat like to be held?  Yes, Minnow is fine being picked up and held by us. Does the cat sleep in your bed?  Yes he does.  He's a great snuggler.  He's started to learn our bedtime routine, and sometimes comes onto the bed before us as though he's waiting for us. Does the cat seek your attention?  Yes, when he's feeling adventurous he'll come when call his name.  He often likes to be where the action is, but like most cats sometimes he'll go off and do his own thing. Does the cat like to play?  Yes, he is very playful! What are the cat's favorite games and toys?  We find that string toys are his favorite, but he'll also play with small stuffed toys.  We have an interactive toy that pops a feather out of random holes in a cube, which keeps him entertained for a long time. How vocal is the cat?  He mostly meows when he knows he's about to be fed.  He also purrs enthusiastically when being pet. What kinds of sounds does the cat make?  He's got a really cute, high pitched meow.  He also has a deep purr that we often hear when petting him. Does the cat scratch a scratcher?  Yes, he has a few in his room and we see him using them regularly. If no, please explain. Does the cat always use the litter box?  Yes, Minnow has never had an accident with us. If no, please explain. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating?  We feed him a little under a quarter of a cup of dry food in the morning, and a can of wet food in the evening.  We don't free feed Minnow because there are other hungry pets in the house. Is the cat picky about food?  No, he eats everything! What is the cat's favorite treat?  Churus are his favorite by far.  He ate one out of my hand within 10 minutes of arriving at our house. Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances?  Once when I was running up the stairs in a hurry, he tried to wrap his front paws around my leg without claws.  I think he thought I was trying to be playful. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you?   Once, when he was feeling very overstimulated from too much petting, he did the classic cat "bunny kick," where he gripped my arm with the front paws and scratched with the back.  However, this is the only time he's scratched since we've fostered him. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you?  When he's feeling really playful, he'll sometime do a very light, gentle nip.  This usually comes after a minute or two of petting when he decides he wants to play or that he's had enough petting.  However, we've been training him not to by redirecting him with a toy or by simply walking away. Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)?  No, Minnow has never tried to bite us. However, when he was surrendered and placed in his first foster home, Minnow did bite a few times when overstimulated. They said it’s easy to know when this is about to happen as he opens his mouth up slightly. To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful?  We had a few people over the other night, including two school aged children, and Minnow did great with all of them!  He is a social, curious boy who likes to be where the action is.   If you have observed the cat with other animals, please describe how they get on?  We have two resident cats and a 3-year-old dog living in our house. After isolating Minnow for a week to let him acclimate, he integrated with our pets very quickly.  Even when our own cats hissed at him when first he approached, he didn't react at all.  Within a few hours our cats accepted him, and by the following night Minnow actually took a nap snuggled up against our dog on the couch! Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions?  Minnow's meow is super cute and affectionate, and will make anybody want to come over and start petting him.  He'll start purring within seconds of petting him behind his ears.  When you go to feed him, he'll start meowing to show how excited he is, which is adorable.  He's a grey cat, but he's got little white "booties" on all four of his paws.  Most importantly, he loves humans and other animals despite his past abuse. In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt?  Minnow is a sweet, gentle boy who came from a background of abuse by his first owners (see question 1).  Despite this, he loves not only people, but also other cats and dogs. If we didn't already have two cats of our own, we would be applying to keep him ourselves! What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them?   The biggest challenge is the gentle nipping when he becomes overstimulated from excessive petting.  This is pretty rare (maybe a few times a week), and it's fairly easy to recognize the warning signs (he'll usually raise a paw, and sometimes his bottom lip will curl back so you can see his lower gum).  We find that if he starts to gently nip when we're petting him, give him a toy to play with instead.  If he nips again the next time we pet him, we usually walk away, and five minutes later he's usually back to loafing somewhere, willing to accept pets again.  We also noticed his behavior improved once he was no longer confined to his foster room and had more freedom to interact with us on his own terms.  As his foster parents, we have found Minnow's nipping to be very manageable, but any potential adopter should understand that like many cats, he communicates when he's had enough petting and would like a little time to himself.  Minnow currently takes a low dose of Prozac happily in a pill pocket. Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Lagoon is a three year old neutered male cat, up to date on his vaccinations. Here's what his foster volunteer says about him:   How would you describe the cat's general personality? Lagoon is extremely shy, and seems to have a whole different, playful personality that comes out at night and when I'm out of the home.   Does the cat enjoy being pet? No, the cat has not let me come close enough to try. If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? n/a Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? n/a Does the cat come on your lap? no Does the cat like to be held? no Does the cat sleep in your bed? no Does the cat seek your attention? no Does the cat like to play? yes- he loves catnip toys and seems to get a bit hyper at night. How vocal is the cat? he has meowed when waiting for food  What kinds of sounds does the cat make? has occasionally hissed when I’ve come too close Does the cat scratch a scratcher? yes, but also my rugs If no, please explain. Does the cat always use the litter box? yes If no, please explain. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? breakfast and dinner - wet food, and dry food as a snack   Is the cat picky about food? no   What is the cat's favorite treat? unknown Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? Has swatted at me once when he was stressed and i came too close Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you?  no Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? no Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? no To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? extremely fearful and avoidant   If you have observed the cat with other animals, please describe how they get on? n/a Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? based on some of my area rugs that i find askew in the morning, he occasionally gets the zoomies at night!   In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? Lagoon is opening up, very slowly but surely. Initially he hid under my bed and wouldn't come out at all while i was awake. Over the weeks, he has slowly been coming out in the evening. He loves to sit in a windowsill! I think with an extremely patient person, he will come to trust more.   What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? Lagoon is very fearful and not interested in interacting with humans right now. He's made a lot of progress over the weeks, coming out a bit more frequently and hanging out.  He loves food and I recently discovered he loves catnip so those have been tools to gain trust.    To learn more about adopting this cat in Massachusetts, please visit www.blackcatrescue.com or fill out an Adoption Profile at https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston.  May 28, 2026, 10:47 am

Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Bari and Gigi are a strongly bonded pair of female cats, spayed and up to date on vaccines. Bari has a larger white locket and is estimated to be around 9 months old. Gigi has a smaller white locket and is estimated to be 1 year old. They must go home together. Here’s what their foster volunteer says about them: How would you describe the cat's general personality? Bari is very friendly and playful. She can be a bit skittish at times, but typically is eager for interaction, loves pets and playing. She is very protective of Gigi, sitting next to the food bowl or litterbox while Gigi is using it, and the two can often be found chattering to each other as they go together to eat or rest. Gigi has really come out of her shell. She is still the more shy one of the two and prefers to be approached slowly, but will happily purr, accept pets and headbutt my hand, particularly around meal or treat times. They both make significant social gains with each passing week, revealing more and more of their very affectionate personalities. Does the cat enjoy being pet? Both cats very much enjoy being pet. They prefer to be approached calmly and from a sitting position. Head/chin scratches are favored. They both love to be brushed. Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? No Does the cat come on your lap? Bari will very briefly venture onto my lap or stay there for a minute when placed. Gigi is not yet comfortable enough. Does the cat like to be held? Bari doesn't mind being carried for short periods of time, but will eventually want to jump down to go play. Gigi tolerates being picked up for short distances, which is a substantial change from when I got her. Does the cat sleep in your bed? Bari enjoys jumping on my bed and laying down next to me, or occasionally on me. She switches quickly between cuddly and playful. She typically sleeps curled up with Gigi in their bed. Gigi will lay on the bed when I’m not there. Does the cat seek your attention? Bari more so than Gigi will seek attention. Bari loves pets and playing. Gigi definitely enjoys pets, but is more nervous and so has taken more time to come out of her shell. Does the cat like to play? They both love playing and will spend a lot of time playing with each other or with me. What are the cat's favorite games and toys? They absolutely love wand toys and will jump and dash around for anything on a string. How vocal is the cat? They are extremely vocal, both to me and to each other. What kinds of sounds does the cat make? Bari in particular is full of kitten-esque squeaking when I come home and when she is waiting for food. They both chatter and coo to each other very frequently, often preceding a group trip to another room or to food. Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Bari uses the scratcher frequently. I have not yet seen Gigi use one. If no, please explain. Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes, always. Even in the early days when they were more tentative about venturing around the house, they would always use the litter box. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? They both get a 3oz can of wet food in the morning and a snack of wet food in the evening. They share 1 cup of dry food twice daily. Is the cat picky about food? No What is the cat's favorite treat? They absolutely love Churu and Temptations. Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? They have never swatted. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? Gigi has scratched in the process of trying to escape when being put in a carrier, but never appeared to show aggression in any way. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? Bari will nip while playing occasionally Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No. She did bite a previous Foster Volunteer while being pushed into a carrier. To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? They are both nervous around new people, but can be coaxed out with food/treats. Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? It’s a joy to watch them interact with each other – they will lay on top of each other, headbutt/rub against each other and chatter throughout the day. In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? These cats will need a patient and invested new family to bring out their clearly affectionate personalities as they acclimate to indoor, social life. The best part has been watching them grow more comfortable and show more of their personalities. One day, Bari started jumping up on my bed when I wasn’t there, and by the end of the day they were sleeping there together and later that night Bari jumped up for pets. With each passing week they become more outgoing and friendly. What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? They are both skittish in the setting of their prior outdoor life. They have adapted remarkably well and it has been fun to watch them become more comfortable with each passing week. Letting them interact on their own terms has proved very effective in drawing out their personalities. Bari has juvenile periodontitis and may need a full extraction in the future. The vets who have treated her so far feel she's too young to undergo that procedure prior to adoption. Gigi has a dislocated ankle that could be fine forever or could shift and need a realignment surgery down the road. Black Cat Rescue is willing to help financially with these procedures in order to ensure Bari and Gigi get the chance they deserve.   To learn more about adopting this cat in Massachusetts, please visit www.blackcatrescue.com or fill out an Adoption Profile at https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston.  May 28, 2026, 10:47 am
