Story
Sailor (A124271) is a 4-year-old DSH who weighed just over 13 pounds on intake! 05/01/25 Miss Sailor is back at the shelter again and hoping to find her purrrrfect fit! She was originally brought to one of our local rescues and was said to have spent a couple months with one of their fosters. During that time, she was stated to be stressed while living in a high activity home. They felt she would do best in a home without children or other animals. Sailor is looking for a quiet home where she can interact with her people when she chooses. She may enjoy a cozy cat bed or tower to hang out on! Sailor was said to use the litterbox at the rescue but when in foster she did not always use it reliably, but they felt that was due to stress. Sailor has used her litterbox consistently at the shelter. Sailor is looking for a special home where she can feel at ease and live her best life! If you are interested in meeting Sailor, please let us know! 03/03/23 Sailor came back to the shelter as a stray and in pretty poor health. Sailor was malnourished and put back on a feeding plan to help with weight gain. Sailor has been very happy with the extra food! Sailor was rechecked by the shelter vet and cleared for adoption as she is steadily gaining weight! She has still been very sweet at the shelter and actively seeks out attention. Sailor has also done a wonderful job at using her litterbox! Since she was a stray again we do not know how she does with children or other critters. Please make sure you are doing slow, safe, and controlled introductions with all new critters and people. We would also like to stress the importance of keeping Sailor inside. The outdoors is a very dangerous place for our kitty friends and the leash law does apply to cats as well. If you are interested in meeting Sailor please give the shelter a call! 08/07/21 Sailor was brought to the shelter after being found as a stray and staying with her finders for a couple of weeks. Sailor was found to have a rectal prolapse (when a portion of the rectum slips outside of the anus, sometimes caused by long term diarrhea, constipation or straining to defecate) upon her arrival at the shelter and she was sent out for emergency surgery. Sailor struggled with recovering from the prolapse and had to have a second prolapse corrected. Sailor has returned from foster and has been doing great, eating and defecating normally, and our vet feels like she is ready for adoption! While you can still offer dry food, as it is good for keeping teeth clean, Sailor's new owner should feed her a diet that is heavy on wet food, as it will help to maintain her hydration levels and ensure softer, more easily passed stool. We have been mixing a bit of water into Sailor's canned food, and she eats it enthusiastically. Since Sailor came to us as a stray, we do not know whether she has ever lived with other cats, dogs, or kids. Sailor has been extremely outgoing here at the shelter and does not appear to be fazed by other animals passing by her kennel. Sailor does enjoy climbing the bars of her kennel door, so PLEASE be prepared for kitten activity and recklessness by kitty proofing your home and being ready to play with Sailor regularly during the day to provide both mental and physical stimulation she needs. Sailor has been using her litterbox regularly despite her poopy problems, and is a champ at facing new experiences! If you are looking for a rockstar kitten seeking new digs after a rough start at her young life, please call the shelter about Sailor!May 2, 2025, 5:49 pm
