Story
Animal Rescue of the Rockies believes every pet should find a wonderful and caring home. To ensure Rhubarb Pie finds the best possible home, we ask you fill out our adoption application so we can learn more about you and your household. We review each application in the order submitted and will contact you within 48 hours (please check your spam folder for our emails) . Rhubarb Pie | 6-Year-Old Catahoula Leopard Dog Mix | A Sweet, Spotted Snugglebug Rhubarb Pie—affectionately called Ruby—is a beautiful, affectionate, and spirited 6-year-old Catahoula Leopard Dog mix with striking brown, grey, and black spotted markings. Once found in a Kansas field severely underweight, Ruby has blossomed into a happy, healthy, loving girl who is ready for the stability, affection, and joy of a forever home. Ruby is more than 95% house-trained and has never had an accident in her foster home. She stands by the door when she needs to go out and even paws at it to let you know. She’s also fully crate-trained, sleeping quietly through the night and resting calmly when left alone. She walks nicely on leash and enjoys sniffing on walks, though she can be nervous around unfamiliar men and may bark or howl until she warms up—which she does quickly with patience and reassurance. This sweet girl is playful, energetic, and loves other dogs—especially those who can match her enthusiasm for wrestling, running, and playing with toys. She’s best suited for a home with playful dogs of her size or larger, as her energy and puppy-like play style can overwhelm small seniors. Ruby has shown some resource guarding behavior around her crate and the items in it, but with simple management (like covering the crate), she has done beautifully. Outside the crate, she shares toys and space very well. Ruby is incredibly affectionate and has a wonderful mix of high energy and cozy snuggle vibes. She loves playing fetch, wrestling with her foster sibling, and carrying or “burying” her favorite toys under pillows and blankets. When it’s time to relax, she happily crawls into your lap, offers her belly for rubs, and gently paws at you for more love. She knows sit, down, no, and drop it reliably, responds well to structure and correction, and is highly motivated by food, toys, and affection. Her ideal home is one that can provide both activity and cuddle time—structure, love, and patience will help her continue to flourish. She could thrive as an only dog or with another playful dog, with proper introductions. Ruby bonds easily with women and, with a little patience, forms deep, loving attachments to men as well. Ruby has already come so far and is truly a gem—sweet, loving, playful, eager to learn, and ready to shower her forever family with affection. She’s a resilient girl who loves to love and be loved, and she’s all set to begin the next wonderful chapter of her life.
