Story
When Mulberry was captured by urban management, he was not in pretty shape - he had a cataract in his eye, his fur was matted, long, and dirty. We suspect he was abandoned by his owner due to his old age and eye problem. One day Mulberry couldn't get up from his crate, he was immediately taken to the vet and we found out he had pancreatitis. After his care ended, someone said they would adopt Mulberry so our rescuer fought to get him out of the urban management shelter. Unfortunately, they backed out. Now, Mulberry lives with many other dogs at the rescuer's own sanctuary, but we hope someone kind can bring him home and give him the life he deserves. This poor boy had been through so much, yet still so kind and friendly. Mulberry is currently in China, and available to fly to you in the coming months. Please send us an email if you are interested in learning more about him and our adoption process!

Story
Note: Poyong is currently in Korea and will arrive in Toronto in June once adopted. For more info about the dog or the adoption application, please click here.BackgroundWhen this little boy was found wandering the streets alone in his yellow puffer jacket and harness, no one knew where he belonged. He had a microchip, but heartbreakingly, the phone number connected to it no longer worked. Poyong was taken to a local high kill shelter, and soon his name appeared on the euthanasia list. He was rescued just in time. Poyong is now living in a foster home where his gentle and affectionate nature is finally beginning to show. Poyong is a Maltipoo.Personality and socializationHe is deeply people oriented and forms strong bonds with his humans. He loves being close, whether that means following you from room to room, resting beside you, or simply staying within sight. He is affectionate and enjoys physical closeness, and he feels most secure when he is near his person. Because of this strong attachment, he does experience separation anxiety and will need a home where someone is home most of the time.He can also become protective around food when other dogs are present, which is likely linked to his difficult past and having to survive on the streets. He shows little interest in cats. He is comfortable with men, while his experience with children is not yet known.BehavioursHe is a good companion in daily routines. He walks well, enjoys baths, and travels well in the car. He may show some nervousness at the beginning of a drive but settles quickly and can ride for long periods without issue. He can feel uncomfortable when clothing or a harness is placed over his head. With patience and a slow approach, he does well. He uses pee pads indoors and also does well with outdoor potty routines. He is alert in the home and may bark when unfamiliar people or animals approach, as he is protective of his space. He sometimes licks his paws when feeling anxious. There is no skin disease or allergy identified, and it appears to be related to stress rather than a medical cause. He eats regular kibble without issue.Health and dietPoyong is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. He is also dewormed and receives monthly parasite prevention. He has undergone surgery on both knees for patella issues in March. He has been healing very well and continues to recover nicely. He eats dry food twice a day and has shown no known allergies so far.Ideal homeHe would thrive in a calm and patient home where he can feel safe, understood, and never rushed. It is ideal that he is adopted by a family where someone is home most of the time, or by someone who can include him in their daily life and take him along wherever they go. He is best suited as the only dog in the home so he can fully relax without pressure or stress from other animals.Experience with small dogs, especially Maltese or Poodle type dogs, would be a meaningful advantage, as it can help his future family better understand his sensitivity, communication style, and emotional needs.Poyong is a very sweet, smart, and loyal boy who forms a strong bond with his family. After everything he has been through, he is now hoping for a quiet, loving home where he can finally settle in and stay close to his people for the rest of his life.Note: Poyong is currently in Korea and will arrive in Toronto in June once adopted. For more info about the dog or the adoption application, please click here.

Story
Meet Taro – VANCOUVER!!! A Gentle, Affectionate Companion Looking for a Loving Home   Name: Taro Age: 7 years old Sex: Neutered Male Breed: Shih Tzu / Poodle Mix Weight: 5.4 kg (11.9 lbs) Height: 33 cm (13 in) Color: Gray and White   Rescue Story   Taro was found alone in his home after his owner passed away. Despite losing the person he loved, Taro has remained incredibly sweet, trusting, and affectionate.   Personality with People   Taro is an extremely friendly and affectionate little dog who loves human companionship.   He warmly approaches both familiar people and complete strangers, rubbing up against them for attention and happily accepting pets. He is comfortable with both men and women and has done well with children under 13 years old.   Taro is easy to handle and can be picked up by placing an arm under his belly. Once he bonds with you, he will happily roll over and show his tummy for rubs.   Social with Other Dogs   Taro will politely greet other dogs but is not particularly interested in playing with them. He tends to do best with calm dogs of a similar size.   If approached by very large or high-energy dogs, he may growl out of fear. Overall, Taro is much more people-oriented than dog-oriented.   Cats   Taro lived alongside cats in the shelter.   Energy Level   Taro has a low energy level and enjoys relaxing quietly by his person’s side. He would be a wonderful companion for someone looking for a calm and easygoing dog.   Walking   Taro is an experienced walker who follows his handler nicely and does not pull on the leash.   House Manners   Taro has excellent manners:   No resource guarding with people or other dogs Rarely barks Settles quickly when left alone Comfortable in a crate Uses both pee pads and goes outside, though he prefers outdoor potty breaks   He may whine briefly when he sees people, but he calms down quickly.   Ideal Home   Taro would thrive in a home looking for a calm, affectionate, and low-maintenance companion. He enjoys human attention, gentle walks, and cozy naps.   After losing his owner, Taro deserves a second chance with a family who will cherish him and give him the love and stability he deserves.
