Story
Nieve ( NeeNee) is Dog of the Day. This boy is a sweetie! 6 years old, lived his life in a very small backyard only inside when Summer temps in AZ got really high. As one could imagine he spent his time trying to escape, causing his family to have to give him up. He has had his vaccinations and has been neutered and given a microchip. NeeNee was really scared and skiddish. We have a nice high fence in our yard and we were prepared for his attempts at escape! He is strong and fast. And comical! He was afraid of “inside”. He was an only pet, so our small pack has helped him to understand the good stuff of family life. And he has found out that Inside is wonderful! Dog beds everywhere! Nee Nee is 11.2 lbs. of wonderment and appreciation. He behaves like a 1year old, so happy and grateful, yet loves his naps and sleeps thru the night. Such a sweet boy, not a mean bone in his body. It will take patience, a private yard to sniff freely and another dog. He is loving dog company. It is what will be best for him and his new family.

Story
Damian is a 4 year old 11 lbs guy. He loves playing with toys and interacting with his foster siblings. Damian is working on his doggie socialization manners and normal doggie behaviors. He enjoys happy growls and is a very talkative guy. He is going to need a special home that will get to know him and learn his differed vocal queues. Damian loves to be close to people but is very careful with snuggles and love. He is full of energy and love he is looking for a home who will take things day by day with him and give him a chance to thrive.

Story
This sweetie was found wandering and is now getting comfy in her new home. She’s quite the charmer, showering everyone with kisses and mastering the dog stairs like a pro. June had her surgery last week to removed some masses, fix her hernia and pull teeth. She’s doing amazing and the pathology report on the masses shows a low probability of it coming back but will require regular vet care to watch just in case. June is a fun, playful, sweet gal who gets along with everyone( kids, dogs, men, etc). Around 8-10yrs old, 10lbs, she loves walks and while she has some wonky knees it doesn’t hold she back. I absolutely adore her and she’s just a fun dog.

Story
Hi, I’m Tater Tot! My foster mom calls be Tater. I still haven’t acknowledged this name but I’m a work in progress. I’m 2 years old and am a Chihuahua Pug mix. I weigh 12 pounds. I was abandoned in a car lot in a crate with 2 other dogs, so I’m pretty scrappy. I’m still learning doggy manners and boundaries but I’m very food motivated so I can be taught pretty much anything. I learned the doggy door in 2 days! My foster mom says I’m goofy, whatever that means. I love to play and like to be by my people at all times. It takes a bit to warm up to people, but once I get to know you, I’m completely devoted to you. I need to find a home where my people are willing to invest some time in me to help me become the best I can be.

Story
Smile is approximately a 1-year-old, 12 lbs. Pretty chocolate chi-mix. We are guessing either weenie dog or min pin. He has more of a min pin look. He came to the rescue after a good Samaritan took him to an Emergency Vet after being hit by a car. I saw his post on one of the lost dog sites and advised him that I would reach out to follow up on him. Once his stray hold was up with the shelter, they contacted me, they let me know that his pelvis was crushed, his left back leg was fractured, and there was a spinal injury, he was painful and they felt his prognosis was poor, but because I reached out, they wanted to give me the opportunity to see if our rescue could help him. Our vets reviewed his X-rays and agreed it was a very severe injury, but also agreed that it was worth a try, so we went and picked him up! I immediately scheduled him with an orthopedic surgeon who stated his injuries were already healing because young dogs’ bones heal quickly. She put him on 8 weeks of strict kennel rest and we took the “wait to see” approach. Once he was allowed to run free and play, we were amazed at how well he was getting around. We followed up with the orthopedic and she was very surprised to not only see how friendly he was this time around (he is grouchy when he is painful), but she didn’t expect him to ever use his back leg, she thought it would need to be amputated. We took new x-rays and she was very pleased. His left leg doesn’t have the same range of motion and he does sit funny and will lift it to run but otherwise she advised that since he is using it, to leave it, you wouldn’t even know it had been fractured if you see him walking, he doesn’t even limp anymore. Her advice to an adopter is to continue his Dasuquin for bone and joint health, and make sure he gets lots of exercise to encourage range of motion. She did warn that as he ages it could change the prognosis of that leg, but right now he’s happy, comfortable, and healthy. Smile is still very much a puppy, he has lots of energy and runs the yard, he enjoys playing with dogs his size, he can be a little bossy, no young children, he likes chews and toys, he enjoys cuddling and sleeping in bed and he walks well on a leash. We have been on several outings, including a day at my work and he is super friendly to everyone. He was just neutered so hopefully his potty training will improve.
