Story
Meet Pierre, a brave and loving pup whose heart is as big as his story. Pierre was rescued from a large hoarding situation and came into care scared, shy, and unsure how to trust people. For a long time, he flinched at touch and hid from attention — until one day, he stood up and gave the tiniest wag of his tail. That moment marked the beginning of an incredible transformation. Now, Pierre has discovered how good life can be. He enjoys toys, snuggling up for naps, and playing with his best friend, Serno. He’s still learning, but his confidence grows every day as he realizes that love and safety are here to stay.Pierre will need a patient home that’s ready to continue his potty training, leash training, and socialization as he keeps gaining trust in new situations. He’s eager to please and makes wonderful progress with gentle encouragement. He would most likely do best in a quiet home.We believe Pierre could benefit from being in a home with another dog, or his brother Serno.

Story
Angel has spent much of his life being overlooked. He came to us from the Yuma Humane Society after spending far too long without a family to call his own. To our knowledge, Angel has never truly known what it means to have a consistent, loving home—and that breaks our hearts. But despite everything he’s been through, Angel still wants to believe in people.Because of his past, Angel carries some deep-seated insecurities. He’s still learning how to feel safe in the world, and he needs someone who can guide him with calm confidence and patience. He’s looking for a person who isn’t just loving, but who can offer the steady leadership he’s never had—someone who can show him that he doesn`t have to be on guard anymore. He’s not the right fit for a home with children or other pets. Angel needs a structured environment where he can truly thrive—where his person is not just a caretaker, but a leader, a teacher, and above all, a friend for life.Angel is an active, playful boy who lights up when he’s outside romping around with toys or exploring the yard. He recently spent two weeks at a board and train facility where he made huge strides. He now walks comfortably on a leash, knows basic commands like “sit” and “lay down,” and has started to understand what life inside a home should feel like. His trainer has generously offered to continue working with his future adopter, giving Angel every opportunity to keep growing into the amazing companion we know he can be.Angel is working every day to be the perfect dog—but maybe you aren’t looking for perfect. Maybe you’re looking for a dog that needs you as much as you need them. A dog who, with patience, guidance, and love, will reward you with a bond deeper than words.Angel has so much potential. All he needs is someone willing to believe in him—someone to give him the chance at life and love that he’s never truly had.Could that someone be you?

Story
Sandy is the shyest soul from the heartbreaking hoarding and abandonment case in Yuma, Arizona. Her journey has been one of survival, and while she may not be the first to run up for pets, she’s already showing us just how brave and resilient she truly is.This gentle girl has every reason to be wary of humans—but instead, she’s choosing to try. Little by little, we see her opening up: a soft tail wag, a cautious approach, a moment of trust when she leans in for a gentle touch. It’s in these quiet victories that Sandy’s spirit shines.Sandy will need time, patience, and a calm, understanding home where she can feel safe. She’s still learning that love can be gentle, hands can be kind, and the world doesn’t have to be so scary. But under that shy exterior is a sweet, kind-hearted dog just waiting to feel secure. She’ll need support learning the basics—walking on a leash, playing, and building confidence—but with time, Sandy will blossom into a loyal and loving companion. If you have a soft spot for the quiet ones and believe in the power of second chances, Sandy is waiting to meet you. Let her show you the beauty of trust, one small step at a time.

Story
Taco’s journey hasn’t been an easy one. He came to us from a hoarding and abandonment case in Yuma, where he didn’t get the love, care, or socialization every dog deserves. Understandably, this sweet boy started out very shy and unsure of the world — but beneath that timid exterior is a truly loyal, affectionate, and gentle spirit just waiting for the right person to help him blossom. After spending time in a loving foster home, Taco learned that people can be kind and life can be safe. Once he trusts you, he becomes the sweetest little shadow — cuddling up to you for TV time, gently pawing his bowl when he’s ready for more food, or snoozing happily in a sunny spot by the window (his absolute favorite place!).Taco is still learning the ropes of being a dog in a home:-He’s working on house training and doing well with frequent outdoor breaks and using belly bands.-He’s not destructive, doesn’t chew furniture, and sleeps peacefully through the night.-He’s not crate-trained, but does well in a blocked-off safe space.-He’s a quiet, sensitive soul — loud noises and new people can scare him, but he never shows aggression. Instead, he’ll just back away or give a big yawn to calm himself.-Taco is learning to walk on a leash — gentle encouragement, patience, and a loose lead help him feel secure.-He knows “come” and responds to soft voices and gentle gestures. Some of Taco’s favorite things?-Peanut butter and plain yogurt-Hard chew toys and bones-Warm sunshine and soft beds-Quiet time with people he trustsTaco will do best in a calm, patient home — ideally with someone experienced in helping shy dogs build confidence. He would love a secure yard to explore and a gentle routine he can count on. As of right now, Taco is considered to be a flight risk. His adopter will need to be aware of keeping doors and gates open, as well as fitting him for the correct harness/collars when it is time to go for walks. *Taco would do best in a home with no children or men*He’s been through a lot, but Taco is ready to keep moving forward — one careful, brave step at a time — toward the forever family who will finally show him what it means to be home.Could you be the one to show Taco the world isn’t so scary after all?

Story
Meet Serno, a tenderhearted pup with a story of quiet courage. Serno came from a difficult start — rescued from a hoarding situation with around 50 dogs — and spent his early days competing for food and comfort. When he first arrived, he was frightened of everything and unsure how to trust. In his foster home, Serno has made incredible progress. He now loves soft beds, squeaky toys, and gentle playtime. His tail wags come a little easier these days, and he’s learning that people bring love, not fear. His journey has been remarkable, and he continues to grow braver every day.Serno still needs a patient, understanding home ready to continue his potty training, leash training, and socialization. He’s learning quickly but will thrive best with continued encouragement and stability. We believe that Serno could benefit from being in a house with another dog, or his brother Pierre to help teach him all things about being a dog.

Story
Sweet Mel has come a long way from where he started — rescued from a hoarding and abandonment case in Yuma, this gentle little guy is now learning what it truly means to be safe, loved, and cared for. And he’s absolutely thriving in his foster home! Here are some notes that his foster has to share!`Leash trained: Yes. Mel learned this so quickly, and is wonderful on a leash. He likes to stop and look around or sniff sometimes, but neither of us pulls at the other and he will start moving again when I ask him to. Sometimes he walks, sometimes he trots, every now and then he feels the joy of stretching his legs and opens it up (which even I have to trot a bit to keep up with, lol). But he lights up every single time I bring out the leash, and absolutely loves being out for walks.Crate trained: Yes. He also took to this very easily. He sleeps soundly at night (has only woken up occasionally to, e.g., loud coyotes or heavy rain that drums on a metal chimney near where his crate is). He doesn’t fuss about being put in there during the day (although sometimes he is disappointed) and sleeps calmly while we are out.House breaking: The only thing left to teach him is the signal that his new family will want him to use to communicate when he wants to go out. We have kept him on a schedule of taking him out every 3-4 hours or so during the day, and keeping him in just a couple of rooms during the day that he understands to be his living space, and that has worked very well. He is so clever I would think that the last step of communication will come pretty easily — I could see him being the kind of dog who could be trained to push a bell or button when he wants to go out.Food: He is eating a generous 1/2-cup of kibble (more like 5/8 cup) mixed with a couple of spoons of wet food per day (no warm water for gravy — he doesn’t like that). We have wound up splitting it into two meals, morning and evening. Sometimes he ignores the morning meal till mid-afternoon, but no matter how late he eats that he will always wolf down his dinner meal. Treats: He likes some dog food treats, not all. He LOVES cheese. (We have just given him tiny pieces, like pea-sized, as training aids.)Socialization: We have taken him for walks on various routes in our neighborhood, on several car rides and to several outdoor restaurants/shopping malls. His first time with any new experience (like going to a park or restaurant)
