You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. My name is Vin Diesel and I'm a senior, male chihuahua.  I just had a dental so my teeth are in pretty okay shape now.  I'm great with other dogs and cats and also respectful kids.  I'm of course hoping to enjoy my retirement ages in a calmer home though.  I walk very well on a leash and love going for car rides.  I'm also potty trained and know my basic commands.  I have great manners and would make an amazing addition to most households.  I'm fixed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. His adoption fee is $400 To adopt Vin Diesel, fill out an application at www.kakf.org/formsVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 13, 2025, 1:53 pm

Story
Meet Sparkler! Born April 14, 2025 Hey there, hooman! I’m Sparkler! What’s up! I’m Sparkler, your soon-to-be favorite little ball of fur, zoomies, and unconditional love. I was born on April 14, 2025, and I’ve already had quite the adventure. I came all the way from Texas, and now I’m a 7-month-old, 20-pound wiggle-butt bursting with energy and cuddles. I’m not going to get very big, so don’t worry — I’ll always fit perfectly in your lap (and probably your shoulder, too… sorry, not sorry). I’m about 98% potty trained, and I already know how to sit. …We’re working on “lay down,” but honestly, “wiggle, bounce, and do my happy hops” is way more fun. I’m a total foodie, so if you’ve got snacks, I’ve got tricks. I adore humans of all ages — kids especially — and I get along great with other dogs. I haven’t met many cats yet, but I’m keeping an open mind. I’m healthy, up to date on everything I need, and so ready to find my forever family. My favorite things include enrichment pads, stuffed toys, fetch, cuddles, walks, and food. Lots of food. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving, slightly chaotic little sidekick who will make you laugh every single day — I’m your girl. Love and slobbery kisses, Sparkler Our standard adoption fee is $375 if paid by cash or check, or $385 if paid by credit card (which includes a $10 processing fee). This fee covers spay/neuter surgery when age appropriate at one of our participating veterinarians, age-appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative, and microchipping. In order to be considered for adoption, we require a fully completed application, a phone interview, and a meet-and-greet with your entire family. Please note that submitting an application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee approval—it simply allows us to begin the review process. If you are interested in adopting or would like additional information, please email us at adopt@safehavendogsIL.org to request an application. Keep in mind that the breed and size listed in each dog's biography are our best educated guesses and are not guaranteed. Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse the adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant for any reason.

Story
Meet Lily — a 2-year-old Terrier mix with a heart full of sweetness and a bright future ahead! When Lily first arrived at her foster home, everything was new and a little overwhelming. She preferred the comfort of her crate and needed some encouragement to feel safe. With gentle patience, hand-fed meals, cozy carries to the yard, and lots of soft ear rubs, Lily slowly began to trust. Before long she was eating, drinking, and exploring on her own — and once she started going outside regularly, she hasn’t had a single accident in the house. Leashes were also a brand-new concept for her, but a few tasty chicken treats and lots of practice worked wonders! Now she enjoys going out on a long lead in the yard or taking relaxed walks around the neighborhood like a little pro. Just two weeks after settling in, Lily surprised everyone by giving birth to five beautiful puppies. She was a wonderful, devoted mama, but with her pups growing big and independent, Lily is finally ready for a life that’s all her own. Today, Lily is blossoming into a fun, affectionate, silly young dog. She loves: Playing with soft toys and chew toys Zooming around the house Wrestling and running with her foster brother Going for walks Sneaking off with the occasional sock (her guilty pleasure!) She knows how to sit for treats and sits patiently to have her harness put on. During the day she curls up next to her foster mom for naps, and at night she snoozes soundly on a comfy chair in her cozy gated room. Her breed mix is a mystery, though a dog-ID app suggested she resembles a Danish-Swedish Farmdog. Whatever she is, she’s adorable — especially those velvety ears that perk up like Baby Yoda when something interesting catches her attention. If you’re looking for a small, gentle, intelligent, and incredibly sweet companion, Lily just might be your girl. She’s ready for love, adventure, and a forever family who will help her continue to shine. Could Lily be your new best friend?   If you are interested in adopting/meeting this pup , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application  . Story
Hi there! I’m Pancake, a boy born around 10/2 with a big personality packed into my tiny 3-pound body. My mom is only 10 pounds, so I’ll probably stay pretty small too - the perfect size for your lap… which is great, because that’s my favorite place to be. When I’m not curled up in a warm cuddle puddle, I’m bouncing around like a happy little Chihuahua-mix firecracker. I zoom, I play, I explore, then I flop over for another nap. It’s a good system. I sleep quietly in my crate at night like a very good boy. I’m still learning about potty training, but I promise I’m trying! I love other dogs, and I’m super gentle and wiggly with kids - my foster home has both, and I think they’re wonderful. If you’re looking for a tiny buddy with a huge heart (and excellent snuggle skills), I’d love to meet you! I will do best in homes with kids 8 and older and a family home much of the day to help me grow into a happy and trained adult! If you are interested in adopting/meeting this pup , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application  . Story
Meet Marshall — the tiniest little bundle of joy! This adorable Chi/Terrier mix was born around October 2nd, and while he may be small, he’s overflowing with personality. Marshall is energetic, playful, and so much fun. He loves zooming around, exploring new things, and being right in the middle of whatever his people are doing. He’s the kind of pup who can make you laugh a dozen times a day with his silliness and puppy enthusiasm. Because Marshall is extra tiny, he needs a home that can keep him safe and give him plenty of time and attention. His ideal family will: Be home most of the day to help him with training, potty breaks, and all the affection he craves Have children 8 or older only, simply because he’s so little and fragile Enjoy an active, playful puppy who loves being part of the action Marshall will thrive with a family who can help him grow into a confident, well-loved boy while keeping him snug, supervised, and cherished. If you’re looking for a small pup with a big heart — and you have time, love, and lots of playtime to give — Marshall might be the perfect fit.   If you are interested in adopting/meeting this pup , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application  . Story
Hi! I’m Biscuit, the sweetest little 9-week-old girl you’ll ever meet. I weigh under 3 pounds, but don’t let my size fool you - I’ve got plenty of spunk! My mom is 10 pounds and my dad is a bit of a mystery, but everyone thinks we might have some Chihuahua in us. My favorite hobbies include: playing with my brother Pancake, giving teeny-tiny kisses, doing zoomies, and then curling up for a nap right in your lap (the best spot in the whole world!). I sleep in my crate at night with no complaints, and I’m working hard on learning where to potty. I’m great with other dogs and I adore children - the foster kids in my house are my favorite playmates. I just love having company and being part of whatever the humans are doing. I will do best in homes with older kids (8 and older) as I am SO tiny I am likely to get stepped on. A family home most of the day is ideal since I need lots of training and socialization in these very early months!
