You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. My name is Vin Diesel and I'm a senior, male chihuahua.  I just had a dental so my teeth are in pretty okay shape now.  I'm great with other dogs and cats and also respectful kids.  I'm of course hoping to enjoy my retirement ages in a calmer home though.  I walk very well on a leash and love going for car rides.  I'm also potty trained and know my basic commands.  I have great manners and would make an amazing addition to most households.  I'm fixed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. His adoption fee is $400 To adopt Vin Diesel, fill out an application at www.kakf.org/formsVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 7, 2026, 10:58 am

Story
Meet Rocco Rocco is a compact, athletic guy with a big personality. According to his Wisdom Panel DNA results, he is primarily Chihuahua, American Staffordshire Terrier, and Jack Russell Terrier — a mix that perfectly explains his sturdy build, sharp intelligence, and energetic spirit. Rocco currently weighs about 38 pounds, though he’s carrying a little winter weight and could comfortably lose around 3–4 pounds. The good news is that his foster has already started walking him 2 to 4 miles a day, and Rocco absolutely loves it. With that kind of activity, he’ll be fit and trim in no time. True to his name, Rocco is confident, social, and full of life. He’s a gregarious dog who enjoys meeting people and being part of the action. He’s very athletic and agile and loves to zoom around the yard or head out for a good walk with his people. When playtime is over, he’s just as happy to cuddle up and relax close by. Rocco is highly food motivated, which makes training both fun and effective. Bully sticks are one of his favorite treats. He already knows “sit” and “down,” and he comes when called… as long as he feels like it. If he’s busy sniffing something interesting, he may suddenly pretend he didn’t hear you. With his intelligence and love of treats, continued training should help sharpen those listening skills. Rocco enjoys playing with most other dogs and generally does well with canine companions. However, large dominant male dogs can make him a little nervous, so a compatible playmate or a meet-and-greet would be important. He does well with children as long as they are respectful and understand how to interact appropriately with dogs. Rocco is quite agile and has been known to clear a 4-foot fence, so a secure 6-foot fence is required if he will be spending time in a yard. Otherwise, he should be kept on leash outdoors. He also has a high prey drive and should not live with small domestic animals such as birds or rabbits. On the plus side, he takes his hunting skills seriously and is excellent at keeping outdoor areas clear of mice and voles. Rocco is a fun, affectionate, and lively companion who will thrive with an active family that enjoys walks, playtime, and having a loyal dog close by. He brings both energy and affection to a home and is ready to find a family that will appreciate his big personality in his perfectly sized body. Adoption Information Rocco’s standard adoption fee is $465. We offer a $15 discount for cash or check payments, making the fee $450. The adoption fee covers: Spay/neuter surgery (when age appropriate) at one of our participating veterinarians Age-appropriate core vaccinations Fecal testing and deworming Flea and tick preventative Microchipping To be considered for adoption, we require: A fully completed application A phone interview A meet-and-greet with your entire household Submitting an application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee approval — it simply begins the review process. If you are interested in adopting or would like additional information, please email adopt@safehavendogsIL.org to request an application. Please note that the breed and size listed in each dog’s biography are our best educated guesses and are not guaranteed. Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse the adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant for any reason.

Story
Bunny rabbit? No, more like puppy rabbit! My name is Lola Bunny, I was born around 1/1/2026 and am looking for my forever home!    I was named after Bugs Bunny's girlfriend, Lola Bunny. Just like her, I am simply irresistable. I don't go out of my way to ask for attention, but somehow the spotlight always ends up on me. I can't help it, it's like I'm magnetic!    I am very big on snuggles. I always end up being held--if you ever can't find me, check the arms of the closest person around. There's a big chance you'll find me cuddled up and snoozing happily. I could just snuggle ALL day! If you don't scoop me up immediately, I'll wait patiently and stare at you with my beautiful brown doe eyes until you get the hint.    I am a gentle girl. I like to play with my siblings Tino and Cupid, but I am never a roughhouser. I sleep through the night really well and I am just a real sweetie overall. Not to brag, but I think I am my foster family's favorite...I mean, look at all this attention I get just for existing and being really adorable. I don't even have to try!!! It's like everyone naturally knows that I am the main character.    Want me to be yours? Of course you do...Reach out to my foster mom & help me get adopted before my siblings to prove that I'm the crowd favorite! Story
Vesper means evening star. This little man is pretty sleepy in the evening but he is without a doubt a daytime star.  Born in the first week of January, Vesper weighs in at 4 pounds of pure fun. Although we can never be certain of his breed, he appears to be a Chihuahua- Mix.  Vesper is likely to be a small dog, 15-20 pounds. His mom is 13 pounds at 5 years old. He is quick to learn. He sleeps through the night. Vesper gets along well with our 3 resident dogs and he is learning how to play tug of war and fetch. He is mostly pad trained and is working on going outside when weather permits. The ideal home for Vesper would have a fenced in yard and because of his size, children over the age of 8. A family home much of the day is also important for this little dude!  If you’re looking for a small companion who can keep up during playtime and then happily snuggle in your lap, Vesper may be your guy! Story
SENIORS FOR SENIORS! Adoption fee is just $100 for adopters 55 and older   Bo is an 9-10-year-old Chihuahua who weighs approx 10lbs and has the absolute perfect blend of playful energy and cuddle-bug sweetness. This little guy is the definition of charming—he’s happy, well-adjusted, and has a gentle, joyful spirit that makes you fall in love with him almost instantly. Bo listens well and knows his name, happily responding when called. He enjoys playtime and has fun romping around, but when the excitement winds down, his favorite place to be is right next to you, soaking up all the love he can get.
