Story
Hello, we adopted Waffles about three years ago sosure of his age but we’ve always said his birthday was April 16, 2018. When I think of the best, most absolute, ideal home for Waffles it would be a truck driver. He loooooooves car rides, sits perfectly in the passenger seat and just rests his little head on the console. He is the perfect size, lanky, but you donfeel like he’s going to break if he jumps off the couch. He is the definition of a lap dog but isn’t so clingy that he has to be right on you. He’s content to sit next to you or snuggled under a blanket. He runs cold and prefers a sweater in the winter and will roast next to an electric fireplace. Waffles’ main issues are unpredictable children aka toddlers and marking. He has done well with a diaper we just are a busy family that can’t seem to stay consistent with taking them on and off. We have another dog that he gets along with, they share a kennel, but I sometimes think he would prefer a quieter house

Story
Callie is a Chihuahua mix, born in 2019.  She's looking for a new place with her bestie, Ellie (born 2017).  Their person is going into an assisted living community and we need your help finding them a new home!  They are both housebroken and know some commands.  They are used to being in a quiet home with one female, but seem to do well with other family members visiting.  They are both very social once they get to know you. Callie and Ellie will need a secure fenced yard.  If given the opportunity, they'll take off out the front door - so keep an eye on them when letting visitors in!!  They have not been around children under age 16.  They will be a little shy or skittish at first, but warm up very quickly.  They are both the perfect mix of being active and then calm.  They like to give kisses and enjoy a lap for cuddles and snuggles!! Here are a few more things we've learned from their owner: In the morning, they each get 1 baby carrot (to keep things moving - if you know what we mean :) They eat Science Diet food (dry) and do not get people food. In the afternoon, they each get 2 little Pupperoni treats. They will be ready for bed about 8pm and up about 6am.  (Dogs are known to adjust to their owner's schedule though, so these times could be adjusted to work for you!!) They each sleep in their own little kennel overnight. They have been around 1 larger dog and tend to bark at neighbor dogs when in the back yard, but other than that not much contact with other dogs. **After meeting them, we can confirm they are soooo SWEET!!!!  You will love them! The suggested adoption donation for both Callie and Ellie is $450, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training).  Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees. Information about the adoption process:  All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. Please Note:  We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months. Story
Jerry is absolutely the sweetest dog and really just needs someone to be his best friend.  He is a senior Chihuahua mix (b. May 2012), who was brought to Muddy Paws through a partnership with the Artemis Project - an Arkansas-based animal rescue. After Jerry came to Omaha, he was adopted and spent about a year and a half with someone.  His owner became ill and can no longer care for him.  We need your help to find him a special home to live his best life.  He is a sweetheart and is friendly with other small, laid-back dogs his size (no big dogs!).  He has done well around other small dogs and cats/kittens in his foster home. Jerry really needs to be with someone that will not be gone for long hours of the day.  He would be happy going places with you, on car rides and even for walks in a dog stroller.  If you are working at home, he will be at your feet napping all day.  He really does not like to be left home alone.  He would make an amazing emotional support dog for someone and appears to be very good with people, although young kids should ease into petting him. A few things we've learned about Jerry: He needs a home with a yard rather than apartment living. He will benefit from being with someone that can let him outside every few hours. Belly bands work well if you’re going to gone a few hours. He does well with a meal and potty break schedule. Since he’s an older guy, he needs stairs or a ramp to get on the couch (he has minimal depth perception and gets a little anxious since he can’t jump up). Jerry is a toothless fella, so he'll need a home where other resident pets are friendly, easygoing, and happy to have another senior friend around.  He is a little overwhelmed by small children, but would be okay with older kids in the home.  One of his favorite things to do is spending time curled up with his person!  If you're looking for a sweet little cuddle man, this senior guy might be the one for you! The suggested adoption donation for Jerry is $325. Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization which means that part of your donation MAY be TAX-DEDUCTIBLE. Story
Gunner is a friendly Chiweenie, born in 2017.  He is a loyal guy and would love to spend his time with his person at home most of the day - that way he has a lap for snuggles whenever he's ready!  He is friendly with other dogs and older kids (age 6+).  He's not comfortable with younger kids grabbing at him.  Gunner does not like to share his food - he will need his own personal space for dining so he feels comfortable.  Gunner is house trained and he would prefer not to be kenneled while you're gone.  He gets a little nervous with a groomer when it's time for a nail trim.  It seems to work best if he's muzzled while with the groomer.  Gunner has experienced seizures, but is not on medication at this time. The suggested adoption donation for Gunner is $350, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training).  Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. Please Note:  A Courtesy Post designates that an animal is still in the home of its owner and not in a Muddy Paws foster. This means that our exposure to the animal is limited since we are only assisting the owner in finding a new home for their pet. From time to time, owners find a new furever home for their pets outside of Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue and there is a delay in removing them from our site. We apologize if the Courtesy Post you apply to adopt is unavailable for adoption. Information about the adoption process:  All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Story
Tucker is a Chihuahua/Mini Schnauzer mix, born 2021.  Tucker is housebroken and leash trained.  He likes to give kisses and will also enjoy snuggles on your lap.  He has been kenneled and will bark initially, but then will settle down.  Tucker is kind of nervous and seems stressed at times.  An environment where he's given the opportunity to adapt and adjust slowly will be ideal.  He's very protective of his person and new people that come into the house or people he sees outside can cause him anxiety. Tucker has lived with another dog in the home, but we're not sure how he would do in a new environment with another animal.  It might be best for him to be the only pet.  He doesn't like to share his toys and he will definitely need his own personal space for all meals so he feels comfortable and safe.  We're not sure how Tucker would be around younger kids because he doesn't like to be picked or grabbed at.  Older kids (age 13+) in the home might be okay. Tucker is going to need a special person who is willing to spend some time to work with him, offer some training and possibly socialization.  It would be awesome if he could have a fenced yard with a big open space to play and run around. The suggested adoption donation for Tucker is $375, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training).  Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission.
