Story
Meet Nero! If you're looking for a loyal companion whose favorite place in the world is right beside you, Nero may be your perfect match. Nero is a sweet, gentle senior dog with a soft heart and an even softer personality. He isn't interested in chaos, adventure, or being the center of attention. What Nero wants most is a quiet home, a cozy place to nap, and someone to love. He is the definition of a Velcro dog. Once he bonds with you, he wants nothing more than to be nearby, whether that's curled up on the couch, sunbathing in the yard, or quietly following you from room to room. Nero's Story Nero came to rescue after his owner surrendered him when new puppies were brought into the home. While change can be difficult for any dog, it can be especially hard for a senior who has spent years knowing one life and one family. Despite this transition, Nero has continued to show just how loving and resilient he is. Now he is looking for a family that will give him the stability, comfort, and love he deserves for the rest of his life. Nero's Favorite Activities Cuddling with his people Napping in a cozy bed Sunbathing Being carried and doted on Quiet time at home Relaxing beside his favorite person Following his humans around the house Enjoying a peaceful, predictable routine Nero is not a high-energy dog. He is happiest when life is calm, quiet, and full of love. What Nero Is Working On Nero has adjusted well to foster care and is doing well with both house-training and crate training. Because he can be nervous in new situations, his foster family continues to help him build confidence and feel secure. One important thing to know about Nero is that when he becomes frightened, his instinct is to run. Because of this, he should always be on a leash or in a secure, fenced area when outdoors. His foster shares: "He can be very nervous and if scared he will run. I recommend if he's outside, he's always on a leash." Nero also prefers quieter environments and may bark initially when meeting new people or encountering unfamiliar situations, but he warms up quickly once he realizes he is safe. Nero's Ideal Home Nero would thrive in: A calm, quiet household Adults or families with older, respectful children Someone looking for a devoted companion A home with a predictable routine People who enjoy relaxing at home Nero does well with cats and would be happiest with other calm dogs who enjoy peacefully coexisting rather than roughhousing and constant play. He likes children but is not particularly interested in playing with them and would do best in a home without very young children. Why You'll Love Nero There is something incredibly special about senior dogs. They don't need much. They don't ask for much. What they offer instead is quiet companionship, unconditional love, and gratitude that is hard to describe. Nero is gentle, affectionate, and happiest when he's close to the people he loves. He may take a little time to settle into a new environment, but once he does, you'll gain a loyal shadow who wants nothing more than to spend his days by your side. If you're looking for a sweet, calm companion to share your couch, your heart, and your life, Nero is waiting to meet you. Apply to adopt Nero today! Apply to adopt at tailsofhopewi.org Nero is currently fostered in Spring Grove, MN. Please note donations using the SPONSOR ME tab on PetFinder will not go to Tails of Hope-WI.

Meet Charlie – The Loyal Shadow You've Been Waiting For Charlie's heart isn't given away immediately—but once you earn it, you'll have a best friend for life. This handsome boy takes a little time to trust new people and new situations, but beneath his cautious exterior is an incredibly loving, affectionate dog who forms deep, lasting bonds. Once Charlie decides you're his person, he'll happily follow you anywhere, content simply being by your side. His foster says that once Charlie bonds with someone, he'll follow them to the ends of the earth. Charlie Loves: -Walks -Car rides -Tug toys -Chewing bones -Cuddling -Napping -Watching TV with his people -Quiet relaxation Charlie's Favorite Thing: Being with his person. Charlie is a true Velcro dog. Once he feels safe, he wants nothing more than to spend his days close to the person he trusts, whether you're heading out on an adventure or relaxing on the couch together. A Gentle Heart Worth Waiting For Charlie isn't the type of dog who rushes into new friendships, and that's part of what makes his love so special. He prefers slow introductions and calm environments where he can build confidence at his own pace. As he settles in, his affectionate, cuddly personality begins to shine, revealing an incredibly loyal companion who simply wants to feel safe and loved. His foster describes him as incredibly resilient. Despite his difficult start, Charlie continues to grow in confidence every day, proving that patience and kindness can truly change a life. One of Charlie's favorite activities is playing with his fellow foster dog. While he prefers calm canine companions over rough-and-tumble playmates, he enjoys having another dog around to share his days with. A Few Things to Know: -Introduced to a daily routine and doing well -Crate trained with a structured schedule -Knows "Sit" -Loves chewing bones -Would do best with calm dogs that enjoy peacefully coexisting -Cats are unknown but would likely do well based on his gentle temperament -Does well with respectful older children -Medium energy level -Food motivated and enjoys positive reinforcement -Needs slow introductions to new people -More comfortable in quiet, low-stimulation environments -Can become nervous in new places or around loud noises -May bark initially, jump when excited, counter surf, or show a little selective hearing while continuing to build confidence -Will need patience and time to fully trust his new family Great Activities for Charlie: -Quiet neighborhood walks -Hiking adventures -Car rides -One-on-one bonding time -Relaxing at home -Watching TV together -Low-stimulation outings -Cozy cuddle sessions Best Match: -Calm, quiet home -Patient adopters who understand shy dogs -Adults or families with respectful older children -Home with a calm resident dog who enjoys companionship -Someone looking for a deeply loyal lifelong companion Three Words That Describe Charlie Best: ❤️ Loyal ❤️ Cuddle Bug ❤️ Food Motivated Foster Location: Dakota, MN Meet & Greet Availability: Charlie is not currently available for meet-and-greets outside his foster's area. Charlie's journey began in Mexico before finding safety in rescue. While we don't know everything he's experienced, we do know he's incredibly resilient. Every day he becomes a little braver, a little more trusting, and a little more ready to embrace the life he's always deserved. Charlie won't be the dog who wins over every stranger in the room—but he will become the dog who gives his entire heart to the person willing to give him a chance. And for the right family, that kind of loyalty is priceless. If you're looking for a faithful companion who will reward your patience with unwavering love and devotion, Charlie is ready to begin his forever story with you. Ready to meet Charlie?
