Story
History: We welcomed a group recently from a partnering organization of ours, Villalobos Animal Rescue. A litter of 4 chihuahua/terrier mixes needed help specifically and arrived to rescue from this transport. They are under socialized and working hard on their trust and confidence in foster care. They seem to prefer women and men right now are scary so a patient and committed family will be important for each of them to work through this! Packer is undergoing heartworm treatment and is available as a foster to adopt through her treatment and recovery. A Note from the Foster: Packer (also called Penny) is a playful, energetic dog who loves people, other dogs, and even cats. She’s social, affectionate, and happiest when she’s included in whatever is going on around her. She’s a smart girl who enjoys food puzzles and enrichment activities. Packer is crate trained and does well in her kennel, though she prefers to be out with her people. She’s currently working on potty training and continuing to build good habits with consistency and routine. Packer is still young and learning appropriate boundaries, especially with older dogs, but she responds well to guidance. She enjoys toys, especially stuffed ones, and would do best in a home that can provide regular activity, playtime, and structure. If you’re looking for a friendly, active companion who enjoys engagement and interaction, Packer could be a great fit.

Story
History: Murray is a super sweet boy who arrived to rescue in desperate need of a second chance. He is such a handsome and striking boy who is ready to meet his forever home soon! A Note from the Foster: Shy at First, Snuggly Best Friend Forever — Meet Murray! Murray is a 6-month-old blue merle Chihuahua weighing just over 5 pounds of pure, adorable nugget. With his big eyes, unique coloring, and tiny size, he turns heads everywhere — and once he feels safe, he is all about being close to his people. Murray is a breeder-release puppy, so he’s still learning that the world (and humans) can be kind and predictable. He can be shy with new situations and quick movements, but he’s making progress every day. He will happily snuggle next to you on the couch for pets and naps, will crawl into your lap when you’re sitting at his level, and is starting to approach people on his own to say hello. If he’s in a “safe spot” like his dog bed, he’s comfortable letting people come up and give him gentle pets. This little guy enjoys playing with toys and even knows exactly where to find them in the toy bin. He loves other dogs and really takes note of what they do and what they trust. While he could be an only dog with patience and time, he would likely adjust faster and build confidence more quickly in a home with another friendly, confident dog. Murray is still working on potty training but does great on a consistent schedule. He sleeps overnight in a kennel in the bedroom and does wonderfully — quiet, clean, and dry. When left alone, he can feel anxious and doesn’t do as well in a kennel, but he has had much better success when gated in a safe, puppy-proofed area with his bed and toys. Murray is looking for a patient, loving home that understands shy dogs and will let him build confidence at his own pace. In return, he will give you the sweetest snuggles, tiny tail wags, and the absolute joy of watching a timid little peanut blossom into a confident best friend.

Story
Snapshot of Sarsaparilla: Size? Small but mighty! Activity Level? Easy to manage and full of snuggles (eventually) Noise Level? I bark when other dogs bark or to alert you that something is happening. Good with Dogs? Yes Good with Cats? Yes Good with Kids? Sort of. I live with kids currently but I will require no kids or VERY dog savvy kids and parents.  Good with Strangers? Ew, no. Potty Trained? Yes, when the weather cooperates Crate Trained? Yes, but I'm really good when left outside of my crate.  Shedding? Minimal Looking for a dog who will obey your every command? Keep scrolling. Still here? Good — you might just be worthy of Sarsaparilla. Sarsaparilla is a chihuahua with enough attitude to power a small city. She lives life her way, and any attempts to pick her up or tell her otherwise may result in a quick reminder (via teeth) that she’s not a fan of being manhandled. However, once you earn her trust (and her respect, which you will never demand, only be granted), she’ll graciously honor you with lap time... at her discretion. Moving her off your lap? Good luck. Cancel your plans. Sarsaparilla gets along just fine with dogs and cats — mostly because she has deemed them acceptable peasants in her kingdom. She’s living with young kids currently, but trust us when we say she’s dog savvy and so are they. In her ideal world, she’d be queen of an adult-only castle or maybe one with extremely dog-savvy older kids who understand the importance of personal space and consent. Housebreaking? She's got it mostly mastered — when the weather cooperates. If it's rainy or snowy, however, you might find a little "oops" inside. After all, Sarsaparilla is a firm believer that queens should not suffer soggy paws or chilly breezes. Leaving the house? Not her vibe. Sarsaparilla’s dream is to live her best life indoors forever, venturing only into a fenced yard when absolutely necessary before promptly returning to her throne (aka your couch). She kennels if asked nicely, but honestly, she does great free-roaming — mostly lounging luxuriously while giving the other crated dogs a smug side-eye. She isn't a good candidate for an apartment with shared walk spaces, for that reason we recommend a single family home, ideally with a fenced yard for this diva. Important note: We’ll need to do a virtual meet-and-greet first. If you meet her in person right away, all you’ll see is her spicy, "don’t touch me" side — and while that is part of her charm, her true personality shines much brighter once she’s comfortable. If you're ready to serve (er, adopt) a tiny but mighty monarch who demands respect, gives love on her terms, and will keep you laughing daily with her larger-than-life personality, Sarsaparilla is ready to grace your home with her presence. Long live the queen. Sarsaparilla is spayed, microchipped, and current on vaccinations appropriate for her age. Adoption Fee: $500 + applicable tax Training Requirement: Obedience Level 1 Required MEET ME/ADOPT ME: If you'd like to arrange a meeting or begin the adoption process, please fill out an adoption application by visiting https://www.twincitiespetrescue.org/adopt/ or clicking "adopt me! Story
Hi there, I’m Hugo! I’m a 4-year-old chihuahua, and I come as a bonded pair with my brother, Kobe. We’ve been together our whole lives, and I’m not about to let him go anywhere without me.Between the two of us, I’m the thicker, rounder, snack-loving sibling. I’ve been told I could use a little help getting fit again, and honestly, I’m ready for it. A few extra walks and a family who cheers me on sounds perfect.I love people and I warm up quickly, but Kobe and I both get a bit jealous around very young children, so we’re hoping for a home without little ones. Somewhere calm, cozy, and full of love would be just right for us.If you’re looking for a pair of loyal, goofy, affectionate companions, we’d love to meet you.

Good with dogs,
Story
History: Dennis has had two major surgeries in his young life. The first was to address an instability that he had in his neck. The vertebra were unstable causing pain and instability in walking. Surgery was done in March 2025 to stabilize the affect vertebra. He has been doing very well since and we expect him to not have any long term concerns. It is recommendation to not allow any stair or jumping up and down off of furniture. The second surgery was to address his bilateral luxating patellas. This surgery was done in June 2025. Both knees were done at the same time. The surgery was done to keep the patellas in the correct position as he bends his knees. He also has been doing quite well since those surgeries. It is recommended going forward to use a harness and not a collar for him. A Note from the Foster:Dennis a tiny 4 lbs sweet gremlin who will love you with his whole heart! He will also keep you busy, on your toes and provide you with laughter and smiles every day. Dennis is a pretty typical Pomeranian. He has an opinion on everything and he very loudly shares his thoughts. So, shared walls may not be the best for him or the neighbors. He’s a Velcro dog who anticipates where you may be going whenever you get up. Get used to Dennis meeting you in the bathroom. He doesn’t bark. He yacks. Yes, yacks in rapid succession but, always with a smile. Dennis is very trusting so he will simply fall into your arms assured you will catch him. He sleeps on my bed, because he’s not a fan of crates. He’s a good bedmate who will climb up on your chest, fall over with his front legs in the air, so your hands can substitute for a mobile that he can bat around for some minutes, until without warning he gets up and goes to the far corner of the bed and goes to sleep. It’s one of the many Dennis things that makes him the tiny little tyrant you will love. Dennis would do best in a home without young children, because he is so small and somewhat fragile due to his spinal surgery (he was born without a connection between his C1-C2 vertebrae, which was joined in a very complicated surgery). His ideal home would also be with someone who is home most of the time, as Dennis complains loudly whenever I go anywhere without him. He loves to be carried outside in a sling, although you have to be a wee bit careful he won’t jump out in excitement if he starts to yack in excitement when he sees someone he knows or simply something interesting. Potty training is ongoing, and may always be ongoing, because he’s really not interested in learning. Walking in a harness on a leash can also be hit or miss, hence the sling. Dennis is a 4 lbs little guy with a 4 ton personality, who will consider you to be his assistant rather than a Mom or Dad. But I promise you will fall in love with him and all, well at least almost all, of his quirks the first time you pick him up and look at his bright eyes and little smile!

Story
History: Marla is a super beautiful girl who was recently welcomed to rescue and will warm your heart with her smile and happy personality. She has her paws crossed to find her forever home soon! Marla was reported to be about 5 years old when she arrived to rescue however upon further examination, our veterinary team believes she is closer to 12 years of age. A Note from the Foster: Marla is a gentle, sweet senior Pomeranian whose favorite place in the whole wide world is right next to her people. She doesn’t just love being around you—she needs to be. If she had a theme song, it would be “Part of Your World” from The Little Mermaid, her favorite part of the song is:“I wanna be where the people are. I wanna see, wanna see 'em dancin' " At just a glance, you’ll see her soft fur and soulful eyes, but spend a few minutes with her, and you’ll know her true magic—Marla wants nothing more than to be part of your world. Whether you’re hanging out on the couch, working at your desk or going for a drive, she’ll happily be by your side, quietly reminding you how loved you are. Marla is still working on remember to go potty outside but on a schedule is doing great. She is working on her walking distance and right now while on leash sticks to a very small area because the outside world is so big and new for her. Marla sleeps in her crate when she is home alone and at night, but is willing to upgrade her sleeping arrangements for your lap or next to you in bed. Marla is looking for a forever family who will cherish her sweet nature, shower her with affection, and let her dreams come true: to simply be where the people are. Could Marla be the missing piece of your world?
