Story
It`s kind of scary to make new friends when you`re a shy guy like me, but I sure try! I`m Ernie, a cute as can be, 7-year-old Chihuahua mix. I`m here at Animal Ark because, unfortunately, my owner became ill and couldn`t continue my care. I am used to living in a home with just the 2 of us, so I would do best as the only pet in my new home, without children. Once I get to know you, I want to be your lap companion and get all the attention you can give. I`m very smart and know lots of commands, plus I`m crate trained and housebroken. I will need some time to adjust to new surroundings so I`m looking for a patient owner who will work with me on getting comfortable. Please fill out an adoption application online we can get a meet and greet scheduled!

Snapshot of Paco: Size? Small! Activity Level? I play hard and snuggle hard! Noise Level? Medium - I like to join the other dogs when they bark and I like to alert you when something new is happening. But I'm generally quiet. Good with Dogs? Yes! I love dogs of all sizes as long as they will play wrestle and chase with me! Good with Cats? Yes, they're SO boring. Good with Kids? Yep! Good with Strangers? Yep! Potty Trained? I'm working on it! But I'm almost there. Crate Trained? Yes, as long as there are treats and a comfy dog bed waiting for me. Shedding? Minimal Meet Paco – Your Next Fun-Sized Sidekick! Say hello to Paco, an older puppy/young adult Chihuahua with a big personality packed into a little body! This playful, spirited guy is the life of the party in his foster home, whether he’s wrestling with the big dogs, chasing his canine friends around the yard, or trying to charm his humans out of extra treats. Paco is great with kids, respectful of cats, and does well with other dogs – especially if they’re up for a good romp! He’s also crate trained and settles in nicely as long as there’s a plush, comfy dog bed waiting for him. Like many young dogs, Paco is still working on his potty training. He does well with a consistent schedule, but he hasn’t quite mastered the art of letting you know when he needs to go out. With a little patience and structure, he’s sure to get there! Paco isn’t overly barky, but he’ll definitely speak up if the other dogs are barking or if something new and exciting is happening. He wants to keep you in the loop, after all! This clever little guy is a huge fan of toys, treats, and creative problem-solving—especially if it involves scaling kids’ step ladders to explore countertops and tables. He’s a bit of a mischief-maker in the most endearing way. But will need a family that can continue to help manage the mischief and show him how to keep all four on the floor. If you’re looking for a fun-loving, quirky companion who brings a big dose of joy (and maybe a little chaos) into your life, Paco might just be your perfect match. Paco is fixed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations for his age. Story
Snapshot of Sarsaparilla: Size? Small but mighty! Activity Level? Easy to manage and full of snuggles (eventually) Noise Level? I bark when other dogs bark or to alert you that something is happening. Good with Dogs? Yes Good with Cats? Yes Good with Kids? Sort of. I live with kids currently but I will require no kids or VERY dog savvy kids and parents.  Good with Strangers? Ew, no. Potty Trained? Yes, when the weather cooperates Crate Trained? Yes, but I'm really good when left outside of my crate.  Shedding? Minimal Looking for a dog who will obey your every command? Keep scrolling. Still here? Good — you might just be worthy of Sarsaparilla. Sarsaparilla is a chihuahua with enough attitude to power a small city. She lives life her way, and any attempts to pick her up or tell her otherwise may result in a quick reminder (via teeth) that she’s not a fan of being manhandled. However, once you earn her trust (and her respect, which you will never demand, only be granted), she’ll graciously honor you with lap time... at her discretion. Moving her off your lap? Good luck. Cancel your plans. Sarsaparilla gets along just fine with dogs and cats — mostly because she has deemed them acceptable peasants in her kingdom. She’s living with young kids currently, but trust us when we say she’s dog savvy and so are they. In her ideal world, she’d be queen of an adult-only castle or maybe one with extremely dog-savvy older kids who understand the importance of personal space and consent. Housebreaking? She's got it mostly mastered — when the weather cooperates. If it's rainy or snowy, however, you might find a little "oops" inside. After all, Sarsaparilla is a firm believer that queens should not suffer soggy paws or chilly breezes. Leaving the house? Not her vibe. Sarsaparilla’s dream is to live her best life indoors forever, venturing only into a fenced yard when absolutely necessary before promptly returning to her throne (aka your couch). She kennels if asked nicely, but honestly, she does great free-roaming — mostly lounging luxuriously while giving the other crated dogs a smug side-eye. Important note: We’ll need to do a virtual meet-and-greet first. If you meet her in person right away, all you’ll see is her spicy, "don’t touch me" side — and while that is part of her charm, her true personality shines much brighter once she’s comfortable. If you're ready to serve (er, adopt) a tiny but mighty monarch who demands respect, gives love on her terms, and will keep you laughing daily with her larger-than-life personality, Sarsaparilla is ready to grace your home with her presence. Long live the queen. Sarsaparilla is spayed, microchipped, and current on vaccinations appropriate for her age. Adoption Fee: $550 + applicable tax Training Requirement: Obedience Level 1 Required MEET ME/ADOPT ME: If you'd like to arrange a meeting or begin the adoption process, please fill out an adoption application by visiting https://www.twincitiespetrescue.org/adopt/ or clicking "adopt me! CLEO | 8 years old | 10-pounds*Alright, STOP. Collaborate and listen…She cute but she is expensive.Cleo will need prescription food and medication for the remainder of her life. Still interested? Read on!—--Straight from her foster’s mouth to your ears.. erhmm.. eyes.. learn more about Cleo directly from the source! They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend.. And you better have a lot of them. To sell. To pay for her vet care.Haha! Just kidding! *looks around* Kind of..Cleo has a condition called protein-losing enteropathy (PLE) caused by irritable bowel disease. She loses proteins from her bloodstream into her GI tract faster than her body can replenish them and her medical management helps regulate this condition.Cleo’s daily life is unaffected by this and she does your everyday dog things. The only addition is giving her medication (pills) with her morning and evening meals which she takes without problem.Still interested? Then you’re ready to hear our secret..—--Cleo is a GEM. A truly one-of-a-kind companion. So without further ado, here’s what you need to know about Cleo!Extremely smart. Eats her own poop. In a glass-half-full kind of world, you could consider her a self-poop picker-upper. (But really, you are going to have to go out in those subzero temps and pick up her poop before she does.)She is well potty trained but her medications/condition cause some accidents if she is unable to be let out after a certain amount of time. She understands cues quickly and even knows sit, shake, high five, and can catch her food mid-air!Farts can clear a room. They just get stronger. Rootin’ Tootin’ Cleo should be in the Guinness Book of Records or something.Teeters on being the fun police. Still fun.Cleo coexists with dogs big and small but can sometimes be a playtime hall monitor. That said, if she finds the right dog with the right playstyle, she has a good time playing chase and wrestling!Loves tug o’ war. Hates fetch. If you throw her toy, she’s going to look at you like what are you even doing. On a scale of one to barky, she’s about a five. While Cleo doesn’t bark all day long, she is going to warn you about car doors slamming, people talking, the general goings on of the world. And her bark be loud so shared walls may not be the best fit for her. She stops with some guidance pretty quickly.. usually.. sometimes..Loves food. Hates sharing. Cleo’s favorite times of the day are, hands down, breakfast and dinner. And she’s got that only child syndrome (I can say that, I’m an only child) where everything is hers. Her food. Her toys. Your food. All hers. And she will tell anyone who needs to know.Supposedly a Chihuahua/Pug mix. Definitely just as needy. Pug parents, am I right? Cleo will climb on your lap, push her way to your hands, and really doesn’t care if she’s stepping on another dog to get to the top. We mean that figuratively. Well.. except for those times when she’s literally walking over a dog to get to you.Likes to give kisses. Licks everything. Literally everything.. the couch, the floor, the carpet, the coffee table, your clothes, and your face.Cleo is great with kids of all ages but it’s probably best that she live in a home with teens or no kids on account of how much she loves food. Because she has PLE, Cleo needs to be on a restricted diet and can’t be catching scraps or snagging food from those little hands. Because she would. She totally would. This girl’s personality is a great balance of play and chill, and she walks so well on a leash.. when it’s actually warm out.. A lap dog through and through, Cleo wants to be snuggled in with you, often under a blanket (Chihuahua parents, you get it). She's content to snooze on the couch or a dog bed when you're gone and she can fit into any social situation.Cleo is one of the best dogs out there and whoever has the privilege of adopting her is going to know love (and toots) beyond measure!—--*Opening Line Credit: Vanilla Ice - “Ice Ice Baby”Cleo came to Pet Haven Rescue with a severe case of PLE. Her levels are back to normal with the help of food and medication management.More on protein-losing enteropathy (PLE): https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/proteinlosing-enteropathy-ple-in-dogs—--If you are interested in this dog, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling: https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $250. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

Ready for a new friend? Meet Honey! Honey is a sweet dog, just like her name she is oozing with affection and love. She is a very medium/small sized beagle/chi mix, she is housebroken and likes to let people know when she needs to go out by pawing at your legs. Loves to cuddle with you, she can be a velcro dog sometimes and will make your couch her permanent home!. Honey doesn't like to share her affection with others and is adoptable into a single dog/animal home. She does tolerate the foster mom's kitties but honestly she would really love to be the center of someone's life. She has MORE than enough love and devotion to fill your heart every day. She is crate trained. She loves to sleep in the bed too! If you are looking for the yin to your yang, the bread to your jam or the pup to your life... HONEY is the ONE!!!!
