Story
Meet Echo! Your built-in security system with four legs! Echo is a 7-year-old Chug (Chihuahua/Pug mix) with personality for days. He’s loyal, expressive, and takes his job of “alerting you to absolutely everything” very seriously. Mail carrier? Noted. Neighbor walking by? Reported. Suspicious leaf? Handled. Echo is looking for a home that appreciates a little extra commentary and doesn’t mind an enthusiastic alarm system. Beneath that watchful nature is a devoted companion who bonds deeply with his people and loves being part of the action. If you’re looking for a small dog with a big presence and an even bigger heart, Echo just might be your guy. The adoption fee is $300 + tax and covers age-appropriate vaccines, a microchip, and a spay/neuter. We're open from 12-4 PM Tuesday - Saturday! Did you know you don't need to have an appointment to visit our available cats and dogs***? Simply drop by and if you find a potential new furry friend, you can fill out an application on the day you visit. Go to townandcountryanimalrescue.org to fill out our digital application. Applications are typically processed in 3-5 business days. Once you're approved, you can return on the date and time set up by your adoption counselor, with your family for a meet and greet. If it goes well, you can take your new best friend home on the meet and greet day! If you have other dogs in your home, they must all meet the potential adoptee.   ***Please note that animals in foster homes cannot be viewed at our rescue, and appointments are still required to meet them. Please be sure to follow us on Facebook to learn more about Town and Country Animal Rescue and our mission. ##2664633##

Cookie is a 7 year old Chihuahua mix who is very loving, affectionate, loves to play, run around, and loves to cuddle. She is house and doggy door trained. She's very social and can adapt fairly well to other dogs. She has lived with cats for the majority of her lifetime but is better in a household without them.

Story
Opal Chihuahua Spayed female 9 years old, 8 lbs. Opal is a senior chihuahua that tips the scales at 8.5 lbs and would do best in a quiet home (no small children) where she is the only pet. She might be compatible with another dog or cat as long as Opal is not obligated to be friends. She is approximately 9 years old, has been described as having an “old soul” and is somewhat set in her ways. Opal is up to date on all her shots, has a microchip and is house trained. She considers her crate to be her safe place. She knows a few basic commands and prefers women, but will open up to men who "speak" chihuahua. Opal does like to play, once she feels safe. She occasionally gets the “spinners” when she is excited. She is a bit sensitive around her head and neck, so she needs a fenced yard (privacy preferred) because putting a collar or harness on her can be quite stressful for all involved. Opal is not on any medications nor does she have any conditions requiring special foods. If you love when a big attitude comes in a little package, Opal is worth a look!! An adoption form is available at  nebraskanokill.org Suggested adoption donation: $200    January 27, 2026, 8:54 am

Story
Penny Female Spayed DOB Kennel Trained Potty training - work in progress Leash trained Meet Penny – Our Sweet & Spunky Senior Chihuahua Penny is an older Chihuahua lady who knows exactly what she likes: a calm home, a cozy routine, and a person to call her own. She’s happiest living the slow life, spending her days napping and snuggling as close as possible to her favorite human. Once she bonds, she truly bonds—Penny is a devoted little “velcro dog” who loves to sleep touching her person and would happily burrow under blankets at bedtime. Penny would do best as an only pet, though she can coexist with another calm, respectful dog with proper management. She can be protective of her personal space—especially her kennel and her person’s lap—and may bark if another dog gets too close. For this reason, she’s best suited for a home that understands small-dog boundaries and can give her a peaceful environment. She walks beautifully on leash and is excellent in her kennel, sleeping quietly through the night. While she prefers to sleep in bed with her person, she’s perfectly content and well-mannered in a crate. Penny does well in the car, hasn’t shown any destructive behaviors, and takes treats gently. She eats well and has lovely house manners overall. Penny can be successfully house trained with a consistent schedule. She understands the routine and the cue “outside,” but she does not signal when she needs to go, so a predictable potty schedule is important for her success. While Penny isn’t much of a toy player, she enjoys gentle interaction and playful hand wrestling. She’s a low-energy companion who would thrive in a quiet home with someone looking for a loyal, snuggly sidekick. If you’re looking for a devoted little shadow who just wants warmth, comfort, and your love, Penny may be the perfect match. The Adoption Fee (Tax Deductible Donation) is $150.. If you are interested please fill out an application at www.nalarescue.org. Please note a Vet Check and Home Inspection are part of the application process. NALA Rescue is a home-based foster rescue and does not have a facility. If interested in meeting a dog, please apply at www.nalarescue.org. All dog meets are scheduled by appointment in advance only, if approved. All shots, boosters, rabies, spay/neuter, and microchip are included in NALA Rescues Adoption Donation charges. All dogs/puppies are available until they are removed from this site so please no inquires if a dog is available.

Story
Ike Located in Dalton NE Chihuahua mix  07/28/2021 Birthday Dog friendly Cat friendliness unknown but likely fine  Will be fine with older children who are CALM and have dog manners, he is too WAY shy and gentle to be around loud crazy kids, he would get scared and very overwhelmed Not fully or consistently house trained, and knowing his breed this could be a long process. He gets cold easily and isn't a fan of potting outside in the cold haha. This being said he has already made positive movement on this topic  He is crate trained but doesn't love it. He needs a heartbeat stuffed animal or another dog to sleep with him. He also believes when kenneled that he can and should express all his opinions as loud as possible.  Doesn't know commands but is shockingly easy to motivate so he should be relatively easy to train LOTS of LOUD opinions, not an apartment appropriate dog, unless you're looking to get out of your lease, then he is the PERFECT dog  He is shy at first and will need a home that understands at first it may be a bit of a slower process than a usual dog, if you rush it he will never come around and end up returned so this is a serious aspect that you as an adopter need to consider realistically and carefully Needs to be adopted with his sibling Gil Likes to sleep under the covers, or in "cave" beds Fully vetted  8-9lbs approx These 2 boys are Ike (larger brindle) and Gilligan (smaller tan). These boys have been with us their whole lives (born 7/28/21) and while their foster absolutely LOVES them they deserve their FURever home. The issue is that they must go TOGETHER, everyone has wanted Gilligan but no one was also interested in Ike. These boys have the sweetest most healthy and delightful bond that splitting them up just isn’t in their best interest and would be cruel. Gil is more outgoing and comes around to ppl faster than Ike who is more shy. Gil is also 4lbs packed with hilarious antics and Ike is way more cuddly and sweet. Ike chooses his people and is just more cuddly with them vs others. However once they get to know and trust you both are crazy sweet. Together they are so opposite yet work together so perfectly. They play perfectly together and with other dogs extremely well. Ike does watch out for Gilligan, especially around larger dogs, as Gilligan seems to have no idea he's only 4lbs, it isn't aggressive at all just really sweet. If you’re interested in adding 2 precious little boys to your family don’t hesitate to reach out! Both boys are dog friendly. Both are likely fine with cats. Both would be fine with older non heathen kids (Gil is only 4lbs so needs children who understand “gentle”). Both are shy but not nippy at all, they will hide not fight. Both do ok with housetraining they could be more consistent but there is a lot going on in the current foster home so it's very inconsistent. Both love cuddling, cuddling with their ppl, cuddling with other dogs, cuddling with each other and both are use to sleeping with their human and each other. These 2 are the most delightful pair and deserve the most amazing home. We are NOT looking for a home that really just wants Gilligan but is willing to take Ike to get him. Both dogs are precious and deserves someone who loves them both equally and as much as their foster mom does.   Original PostIke was the 2nd born and the largest pup from the start. He knows he is the largest and will use it to get his way haha, but he is also the calmest and most content pup out of the 3. He is very sweet and outgoing. He is more independent and happy to run with the bigger dogs. He is going to make someone a fantastic family member.  $200.00 Adoption Fee  (Which is considered a non refundable donation and being we are a 501c3 organization it is tax deductible. The fee itself is not negotiable, our vets don't negotiate and thus neither do we.)
