Story
Mrs. Fluff is a delicate little one-year-old, Deerhead mix Chihuahua weighing just 8 pounds, and who is searching for a calm, nurturing home where patience and love come first. While she is undeniably beautiful on the outside, her heart is still healing from a difficult beginning. Mrs. Fluff came from a home that just could not take care of her. After one month in foster care, she has made truly remarkable progress and continues to blossom every day. In her foster home, Princess Fluff has learned that laps are safe, cuddles are wonderful, and gentle voices bring comfort. She seeks affection and enjoys being close to her people once she feels secure. Inside the home she is relaxed, playful in her own quiet way, and her sweet personality is beginning to shine through. She is still building confidence outdoors and leash walks in a fenced yard will prove to be a big confidence booster for her. Mrs. Fluff would thrive in a home where her people can continue this positive exposure at her pace. Car rides and neighborhood strolls are goals we know she will enjoy as she gains confidence. Mrs. Fluff would do best in a peaceful home with plenty of time and attention devoted to her. She may do well with one other calm, confident dog, but she truly wants to be someone’s special girl. Children in the home should be over the age of 10 and able to respect her gentle nature. She is crate trained and making steady progress with house training. We are being honest in saying that Mrs. Fluff still has some shyness to overcome — but she is absolutely worth the patience and love it takes to help her fully bloom.       If you believe you could be the safe place she’s been waiting for, please contact Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com.    February 1, 2026, 11:25 am

Story
The volume of discarded seniors entering NJ’s shelter system is sad and alarming. Pippy is one of our newest arrival. She was curled up in a sad scared cranky ball in the back of her kennel at our local Animal Control facility surrounded by large barking dogs. She’s severely overweight at 18lbs when she should be more like 12, and she gets out of breath easily with even short walks. She was blind in one eye which was painful and uncomfortable due to severe untreated, chronic dry eye as well as glaucoma, so we made the decision with our vet that removal would be the best option to help her feel better. She’s healing nicely and warming up, she’s a chihuahua so can be snarky with strangers and doesn’t like to be bothered when she’s comfy in her bed, but getting a bit happier each day. And she only has bottom teeth remaining after her dental so isn’t particularly scary. Getting gummed to death by an obese one-eyed pirate 🏴‍☠️ Chihuahua isn’t much of a threat. She’s fine with other mellow little dogs and definitely knows her own chihuahua kind, a funny but lovable little personality if you understand chi culture and customs. She’s at least 10 years old and overall in pretty good health now that her untreated eye and dental situation have been taken care of and she’s already lost 2lbs on her diet! Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Pippy in Northern NJ. Pippy is just the latest in a long line of local seniors we have taken in suffering from chronic painful medical issues that need immediate medical attention to give them a better quality of life. Please consider a donation so we can continue to step up week after week for these little ones in need in our local shelters. Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
Meet Lady Dolly 👑 of the County of Morris, New Jersey Descended from ancient Chihuahua royalty, Lady Dolly is looking for a home to respect- no, worship- her and listen to her edicts and demands. She is smarter and better than you and other dogs and her wishes need to be carried out without argument. She does readily accept bribes - squeaky toys will get you somewhere but you are going to want to arm yourself with the yummiest of treats if you really want her to seriously consider your request to cooperate. Otherwise she does what she wants and you better not challenge or interrupt that, or prepare to feel the wrath of thousands of years of chihuahua rage channeled through her 10lbs body. She likes hanging out with her subjects, but you are going to have to submit a formal request in writing before petting her especially if she’s on her throne/couch/bed and expect to wait 2-5 business days for an answer. Better yet, just wait for her to request your attention when she feels like it. She is quite confident in her natural beauty and isn’t going to let you give her a manicure 💅 or dress her in clothes. And she is a mature adult who can walk perfectly well on her own 4 feet so isn’t going to submit to being carried around like a baby just because she’s the size of one. She keeps her palace clean as long as you open the doors for her upon demand, and she can handle her own security loudly if the villagers make it past the moat around her home without needing to wait for a doorbell. She doesn’t mind other dogs as long as they too bow down 🙇 to her and don’t try to steal her throne or disrespect her. She rose to power at a young age, and at 5 years old she still has many years to run her run her new kingdom. If you would like Lady Dolly to consider your request to rule your castle, please email njwoof@cs.com to see if she will accept your offer. Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. Story
Allergic to cats but always dreamed of adopting one? Here is your perfect feral street cat in a dog’s body! Moe is a middle aged chi mix who originally came from a hoarding situation where he was clearly never ever touched. Probably even by his owner. He’s been in a great foster for a while and has made tremendous progress, but he needs someone who will accept him for who he is, and will probably never be the type of dog who will run over asking to be picked up and cuddled or greeting strangers at the door happily. Well, maybe 10 years from now when he’s blind, deaf, and arthritic he won’t mind being held and cuddled, but he’s a long way off from that. He thrives on routine and following his “pack” of doggie friends around. He actually seems to prefer the man of the house and will finally lay by him and allow some petting, but is still terrified of being leashed and most handling. He runs around happily wagging his tail, playing with the other dogs and loves his life as long as his limits are respected and is hoping to find a permanent pack where the dogs outnumber the humans in the household and he won’t be under pressure to conform to societal norms of how a dog should act. If you too would rather be surrounded by dogs than people, and don’t mind having another little furry member following you around at snack time and watching the world go by perched on your couch, email njwoof@cs.com to meet Moe in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ.
