This is Sampson, a black and tan, 4 pound, male chihuahua/terrier mix born on 9/15/21. Sampson loves to be held and he loves to sleep on your stomach. He is a real sweetie but he wants to be the boss. He has a crooked tail that is very cute and adds to his mystique as times were tough for him before he was rescued. He’s completely vetted including a pro heart 6. His adoption fee is $700 and his transport fee is $155. The first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers. After you submit your application, please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. Once your application has been approved a volunteer with contact you to set up a phone interview. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in.

Brutus: DOB 7-14-2023 This darling little Chihuahua is all up to date on shots and ready to come home. This boy knows no stranger, everything he meets is his best friend! Not only is Brutus cute he has personality all over himself! Brutus is full of antics but loves to fall asleep in your arms while you are reading or watching TV. Oolie (short for Oolong) came to NorthStar with her mom & siblings as puppies. She was adopted into a family but is now being returned to the rescue. We will be looking for a situation where she will adjust better, a calmer place with less activity as Oolie can be quite anxious. She will be going into a training program to help her deal with her anxiety and we will post bio updates as she progresses. Weighing only 9 pounds dripping wet, this little Chihuahua boy is named Hermey and he’s just arrived from Texas to NJ to find a forever home. He is only a year old.  Hermey is a timid pup who will need a patient family. He is great with other dogs but he will chase cats. In fact we feel that Hermey would do best in a home with another calm canine companion. Hermey has had no exposure to children and because of his timid nature we feel that he should not be in a home with kids Hermey is definitely affectionate although he is afraid of getting grabbed - he loves getting pets and belly rubs though. He is crate trained & likes to eat in the comfort of his crate so he can eat at his own pace during meals. With only 15 minutes to spare, Polska was pulled to safety from a Texas shelter by NorthStar. She is now decompressing in her new foster home, getting used to things & people & other dogs & doing just GREAT! Polska appears to have some loss of sight and she is currently on eye drops. Foster mom says that Polska is a happy friendly dog who wants to be by her person at all times. This gal loves to go for car rides and really likes other dogs - she is also fine with cats! Polska is housebroken and does okay in a crate or pen although she doesn't need to be confined, she's so well behaved. And sometimes she'll go get a dog toy and carry it around. She may not really know how to play yet but she wants to. She's also a big fan of naps in the sun. She also loves cheese and gets very excited by the USPS truck. With her tail wagging all the time, you can tell this is one happy happy girl with a tail that never stops wagging!! Polska is about 8 years old and weighs under 16 pounds. Story

"Ohana" means "family" and this sweet little girl would love to have a family of her own! She came into a shelter in Texas as a stray  with a dead end microchip and an old injury to her eye. Ohana is a gem and very easy to work with. She walks well on the leash & has been friendly with everyone she has met - she definitely seems potty trained, too! Ohana's eye has been examined by NorthStar's vets - since it's an old injury and isn't bothering her, they feel it is best to just leave the eye as it is. This gal is very chill and mostly likes to sleep in a dog bed in the living room while foster mom works at home. She is getting better with the cats but still not a fan of them. She would do fine with calm dogs (especially small breed) who also like to keep to themselves with occasional interaction. High energy dogs or puppies are not for her! Ohana is amazing with kids. She loves to be held and pet on and will sit in your lap for hours if you let her. Ohana is fully potty trained and loves to be with her people in bed and around the house. Her best fit would be in a house with a kid or as an only dog or with one easy going fursibling. Ohana loves car rides and being outside. She is not people shy at all - she gets along with everyone! She has been crated and is okay with it but in her foster home she doesn't have to be as she is well behaved and hasn't had any accidents. Ohana is about 5 years old and weighs around 9 pounds - she's perfectly sized for any lap! This girl is a real treasure and whoever adopts her is going to be very happy they did!
