Story
Introducing Natasha! Humans are scary at first, and she will be skittish while she settles in and learns she can trust you. Taking her outside will, first, require some patience. As a flight risk during this skittish phase, a fenced yard and slip lead are needed. But with the help of consistency, calm cuddles, and treats- you will earn a ride or die bff, snuggle baby, that is very easy to care for. Once the trust is there, you become her rock! Take it from me, foster momma and this little nugget’s current bff. She becomes a little shadow that demands belly rubs and will sleep little spoon all night. Potty trained and knows how to use a pee pad for the long stretches, crate trained (although she’ll eventually rather be by your side), and fantastic with any other animal. Giant dogs, rambunctious kittens, she’s cool. All she needs is her human, a good dog bed and she’s a happy camper. Minimal barking, road trip approved (we just drove to Florida and back for the holiday). She did great! Kids might be a bit too overwhelming, though this hasn’t been tested. She seems to have a harder time with men; though this definitely has improved in time. I would say the primary caregiver should be a woman. The first few days, few weeks, will have their challenges. But once you get over that hump and her little wiggly butt is greeting you with a smile (literally), y’all will wonder how you could live without each other.

Story
Hey there all, this is Salem. I adopted him from the APS of Durham several years ago. I’m looking for a home with a lot of love and affection for this cute little guy. He is about 10 or 11 years old but still plays like a puppy. He loves all toys and all treats! He’s extremely loyal and enjoys the simpler things in life. Hoping to find the perfect forever home. Ideally a home with him as the only pet as he doesn’t do the best with other animals unless they are bigger than him!

Story
Tito may only weigh 5.5 pounds, but he carries himself like he owns the place. At around 7 years old, he’s a chihuahua with all the classic traits: bold, expressive, energetic, and absolutely certain he deserves attention. Found as a stray with rotted teeth and skin issues from parasites, Tito bounced back with impressive attitude. He’s had a full dental cleaning with 18 extractions and is feeling dramatically better. His skin and sleek brown and white coat are now healed, and his ears are nearly there, too. Otherwise, Tito is healthy and active! Tito is what we’ll lovingly call a "firestarter". At home, he always wants attention, but also on his terms. He loves other pets and tries to initiate play constantly… unless it’s nap time, in which case he expects peace and quiet. Adding to Tito's mystique, he comes off as mellow and reserved outside of the home, whether it be for a vet appointment or socialization. He’s a tiny dog with big character: energetic, social, enigmatic, opinionated and happiest in a home that appreciates the unique allure, and occasional chaos, of chihuahuas. Tito's ideal home has other playful pets and no little kids. If you’re a chi lover who appreciates a dog that knows what he wants, and understands the balance of boundaries and spoiling, Tito will fit right in. Tito doesn’t just want a home — he wants an audience. And honestly? He deserves one.

Story
Meet Skippy! Skippy is a sweet, curious 9-year-old gentleman who proves that age is truly just a number. While he’s wonderfully calm and easygoing around the house, he still has plenty of pep in his step and enjoys getting out and about. Walks are one of his favorite activities, and he’s always up for a game of fetch or a little toy time to keep things fun. After he’s had his exercise and mental stimulation, Skippy is perfectly content to settle in for some quality relaxation. You’ll often find him lounging in a cozy dog bed or curled up on a soft blanket, soaking in the sunshine or just enjoying the calm of his surroundings. He has a naturally gentle, laid-back demeanor that makes him a lovely companion for quieter moments. Skippy is friendly and social — he does well with other dogs and is comfortable around kids, but he would also thrive as the only dog in the home if that’s the right fit. He’s adaptable, affectionate, and happiest when he’s near his people. One guaranteed way to win him over? Belly rubs. He absolutely lives for them and will gladly roll over to request more. It’s also important to know that Skippy will need a dental procedure to address his teeth, but the good news is that the rescue already has this scheduled and will cover the cost. He’ll be feeling even better in no time, ready to enjoy his golden years comfortably. Skippy would be a wonderful match for someone looking for a low-key but still playful companion — a dog who enjoys activity without needing constant stimulation, and who brings a calm, loving presence into the home. If you’re looking for a sweet senior with a big heart and the perfect balance of energy and relaxation, Skippy may be your guy 🐾

Story
Rudy is a Chihuahua (possibly a mix) with a heart full of love and a serious passion for cuddling. If you’re looking for a top-tier snuggle bug, Rudy is your guy. He’s happiest curled up close to his favorite human. At just 2 years old, Rudy has already mastered the art of being an excellent house guest. He sleeps through the night, is comfortable in his crate, and walks nicely on a leash while enjoying his daily strolls. With proper introductions, he gets along well with most dogs and settles in beautifully. Like many Chihuahuas, Rudy can be a little possessive of his favorite person and may show some jealousy when sharing attention with other dogs or people. That said, he responds well to gentle correction and is currently thriving in a home with his foster mom, dad, and dog brothers. His devotion and affection make him a wonderfully loyal companion.

Story
I recently adopted Luis, and within the short time he has been in my home I’ve noticed that he has a significant fear of children. He becomes very anxious around them, although he is otherwise an excellent dog. In addition, it appears that my child may be having an allergic reaction to him. Aside from his fear of children, Luis has been wonderful, he sleeps through the night, is crate-trained, walks well on a leash, and has shown no signs of aggression. He just seems to be insecure around children.
