Meet Mr. T: A Spirited Senior with a Sniffer That Won’t Quit! 🐾
Mr. T is a senior male chihuahua with a black and tan long-haired coat, weighing in at just 8 pounds. At 13 years old, this sweet little guy has been through more challenges than a sweet pup should ever have to endure. Despite his gentle nature and loving heart, Mr. T and his brother were surrendered to the shelter—abandoned in their golden years—because their multiple medical conditions became too much for their previous family to handle.
But Mr. T hasn’t let that break his spirit.
More than just your average senior chihuahua, Mr. T faces several advanced health challenges. He has significant periodontal disease, is blind, and lives with both chronic kidney disease (for which he eats a prescription renal diet) and heart disease that requires two daily medications. Despite all of this, he maintains a good quality of life and is looking for an adopter who understands the importance of preserving his medication and diet regimen.
He’s not yet crate trained, as his separation anxiety—likely caused by his sensory deprivation and past losses—makes confinement difficult for him. Though he experiences occasional senior incontinence, Mr. T is wonderful on a leash and gets along beautifully with other dogs, cats, and humans of all ages.
Despite it all, Mr. T is an incredibly mellow, happy, and easy-going dog. He still finds joy in the little things: daily sniffari walks, soft beds, gentle petting, warm laps, and being held close. He’s a devoted shadow who just wants to be near his person, whether it’s to nap at your side or sniff out hidden treasures on a walk. His resilience and loving nature shine through, even as his body grows frailer.
Mr. T is searching for a calm, compassionate retirement home—one that understands the needs of senior dogs and wants to offer comfort, care, and love in his final chapter. He would thrive with someone home most of the time who can provide the closeness and routine he craves.
