Story
Tony is a spunky little senior guy ! He was rescued from a high kill shelter so we don’t know too much about his previous life. Getting to know Tony the last few years has been an honour. To see him open up with staff and volunteers he is comfortable with is an amazing thing. Tony once was a very guarded dog and now he is a happy and silly guy. Tony loves walks, sleeping in comfy dog beds and getting tasty treats. Overall he does well with new people as long as he gets his space and they do not pet him right away. Tony is quite good with dogs big or small but he does show signs of resource guarding in a home. He will need a few introductions to a dog in his space and management until he accepts them into his pack. Tony is great in the car he enjoys sitting and looking out the window. He is brought home with our staff and volunteers where we have learned he has great manners and is very quiet. Tony has had some trouble finding a home because he has a hard time trusting people. When Tony is unfamiliar with someone and they pet, hug or kiss him he can bite. He truly needs someone that will give him a lot of time to be affectionate and build a bond in other ways. In return, he’ll follow you anywhere you go with his signature grin.

Story
MILES / Male / 10 years / 4.5kg - 10lbs / Chihuahua / Originally from Tennessee / Currently Fostered in Markham Good with other dogs / Not tested with cats and kids / House and crate trained With this spunky senior around, there’s always smiles for Miles! Miles has had a tough life down south, and can’t wait to find the perfect family to show off his sassy side to while snuggling his days away with you. Miles is your classic senior pup - his favourite activities are napping in his crate, snoozing in the sun, and laying on your lap. And yet, his spunky side comes out when his people arrive home, and he’ll greet you excitedly, barking with joy. He likes to meet new people as long as they give him his space at first, and has come to appreciate how nice it is to go for a stroll in the nice spring weather, smelling all the flowers as they come into bloom! He can be a little fearful when meeting new dogs but with time and space he gets along fine. Miles is sensitive to people touching his body when it’s not his idea, and may be reactive, so he’d like a family who knows how to respect his boundaries and understands his cues. It takes time for him to learn to trust you, but he does like to hop up on the couch or your lap for a nice snuggle though! Miles is a small, fancy boy, and stairs can be challenging for him, so he’d rather you carry him up like the prince he is. Miles is a very good boy in his crate and will happily hang out in there during the day if you’re at work, but isn’t destructive if you leave him out of the crate either. He lives with another pup but would be fine as the solo dog in the household, and would likely do better in a home without young children. Magnificent Miles is here to make you smile - if he sounds like the right pooch for you, apply to adopt him today! https://caninehaven.org/dog-application/  Neutered / Microchipped / Up to date on vaccinations **PLEASE FILL OUT OUR ADOPTION APPLICATION TO BE CONSIDERED -https://caninehaven.org/dog-application/* For inquiries please do not use Adoptapet/Petfinder inquiry button - send an email directly to hello@caninehaven.org

Story
Fifi is an 12 yr old (approx.) spayed female, chihuahua/pug mix and weighs about 10 lbs. She barks when someone comes to the door but soon stops after being greeted. She will jump onto your lap when it suits her and likes to be petted. Fifi eats well twice a day, a generous one-quarter cup of kibble (Fromme Senior Activity) mixed with a little warm water at each meal. Once she is awake, a toilet trip outside follows and then she naps until it is time for her morning walk. Another toilet trip outside in the afternoon, dinner around 5 pm,  another walk about 7p.m. and a final toilet trip outside before bed. She doesn’t ask to go out at any other time. Fifi did have some accidents when she first arrived but they stopped once she got into the routine. She is very quick in doing what she needs to. She doesn’t go to bed until her humans do and then sleeps on a blanket on the bedroom floor.  She is not interested in playing or toys except for a ball with treats inside. She is very possessive about this and will guard it. She shows anxiety at the sounds of a storm. Treats are given after each trip outside and she looks for them. If another dog or person is encountered on her walk she will bark at them but not always. She walks well on leash but will pull when nearing the house. Fifi naps when left alone in the house which normally isn’t for more than an hour. She barks when she hears the car return. She travels in a crate in the car and will eventually settle. We haven’t been on trips over 40 minutes. Fifi is possessive about her human, her food and her treats. It would probably be better if she were the only pet in the home. She bonded quickly with her female human but also likes her male and jumps onto his lap. We have not seen a reaction to a cat as she has not been close to one. Fifi is a lovely little dog but you need to be careful with her and make introductions slow so she doesn't become startled or overwhelmed as she might snap at the hand   March 24, 2024, 7:24 am

Story
Woof! 🐾 Hey there, I'm a bit of a shy pup when you first meet me. I'm like a cat—I need about 3-7 days to warm up and show you my true, adorable personality. But hey, patience is the key to our friendship! I absolutely love other dogs. I can't resist saying hi to each and every furry friend, and my cute face tends to win them over. I'm happiest in a home where I can play and interact with another doggy buddy—I'm quite dependent on their company. When it comes to my energy level, I'm just right—moderate is the way to go. I enjoy outdoor adventures, but indoors, I'm the picture of calm and contentment. Walks are a bit new to me, so if something startles me, I might just plop down and pretend I'm invisible. Sharing is caring, especially when it comes to treats and toys. I'm more than happy to share them with my doggy pals. I'm also crate-trained, so I know how to cozy up in my crate when needed. Whether it's indoor playtime or taking care of business outdoors, I'm ready to be the best companion you've ever had. Can't wait to charm my way into your heart! 🐶❤️ Rescue story: My mom gave birth to 6 puppies in a shelter. All of my sibling has found their forever homes and I think I’m ready to find THE ONE!!

Good with dogs,
Story
Introducing the darling Jennifer, a petite 2-year-old Chihuahua-Jindo mix weighing in at a delightful 10 kilograms. This precious pup has quite the story to tell, having been rescued from a kill shelter alongside her precious puppies. Jennifer is what you might call a "people person" in the canine world. She adores meeting new friends and welcomes them with open paws, allowing even strangers to lavish her with pets and cuddles. In fact, she's quite the social butterfly and doesn't mind being carried around like the little queen she is. And oh, don't even get her started on belly rubs – she's practically an expert at melting hearts with her irresistible display of a soft, fluffy belly begging for attention. Having been a devoted mom to her puppies, Jennifer has learned the art of sharing and getting along swimmingly with dogs of all shapes and sizes. She's a true peacemaker, always opting for a calm and collected approach when there's a sniff of conflict in the air. Whether it's a boisterous playmate or a gentle giant, Jennifer is all about spreading harmony and love in the doggy world. When it comes to cats, Jennifer's curiosity might pique when she spots a stray feline on her walks. But fear not – her focus remains firmly on her trusted handler, ensuring that she stays on track and doesn't get too distracted by those mysterious creatures with whiskers. Now, Jennifer may tend to pull a bit on the leash when she's overcome with excitement on her adventures. But fear not, for she quickly settles down once she's had a chance to take in the sights and sounds of her surroundings. And as for those tear stains? Well, it seems that chicken might be the culprit, but a little TLC and a carefully tailored diet will have her sparkling like the gem she truly is. This charming canine companion is seeking a forever family who can shower her with plenty of love and affection, along with a dose of tranquillity to match her serene disposition. If you believe Jennifer is "the one" for you, please don't hesitate to reach out to her devoted team. She's ready to sprinkle your life with endless joy and puppy kisses! 🐾 To see more videos:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhJGCgsllwY&list=PLIsLTtIpe3JxsglforEc1FTB9vABc7T-8

FOSTER-TO-ADOPT HOMES NEEDED!! ***Please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form*** We would love to welcome Mary into the Fetch + Releash family April 14th (subject to change). In order for Mary to come into our care, we need a committed family. As a foster-to-adopt family, you'll be expected to take her home on her arrival date. You will then have two weeks to get to know your new furry house guest before committing to adoption. At the end of two weeks, if you choose not to move forward with adoption, we simply ask that you continue to provide a safe and loving home until their new forever family can be found. Each bio was created by our rescue partners based on their interactions with the dogs. Fetch + Releash has a full disclosure policy however we cannot guarantee a dog against parasites or diseases, nor can we guarantee a dog's nature/behaviour. Many of these dogs are coming directly from the shelter and so you should expect there to be a transitional period. Be prepared to deal with common issues like potty training, leash walking, and socialization. Cat and kid safety assessments are often based on their personality and not necessarily on actual interactions. Where possible, the majority of vetting will be completed prior to coming to Canada, however, foster-to-adopt families may be required to travel to our partner vet in Mississauga, ON for further vet care. During your foster-to-adopt trial, you'll receive the support of a Fetch + Releash mentor to help you through the transition and answer any questions or concerns you may have. Foster-to-adopt families will be required to pay a $200 deposit on the adoption fee and sign our foster-to-adopt waiver in advance. If you choose not to adopt, your $200 will be refunded to you within 30 days of your dog being adopted into a new family provided you see your pup through to adoption. If you choose not to see your dog through to adoption, you will forfeit your deposit. Foster-to-adopt families will be expected to provide their own supplies. Visit https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info for more info on mandatory supplies. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mary / Female / 8 months / 12 pounds / Chihuahua Mix / from Tennessee Another day, another poor dog brought into the world without a plan for care. Thankfully, Mary was surrendered to our partners, where she found safety from a life of abandonment. Now, she's looking for her forever home, where she can experience the love and comfort she deserves. Mary is young, still a pup and due to her current home she is not able to expel her energy. From what we know she is likely medium energy but due to not having regular routine with walks and playtime, upon arrival she may have some extra energy to burn. Her new family will need to be committed to working with her on basic training such and walking on a leash as well as potty training. She would benefit from pee pad training while learning to walk on leash if her new home doesn't have a yard. Good news though, Mary is familiar with a crate and it's safe to say she is crate trained. Her crate will likely provide her a space that she feels safe in as she decompresses and adjusts to her new environment. Mary's small size makes her adaptable to various living situations. She would prefer a quieter neighborhood over a busy city, where she can build her confidence. Whether it's a home with a yard or a cozy apartment, Mary will be grateful to have a place to call her own. Although she hasn't had much exposure to other dogs she does share her space with another dog she was surrendered with. Large dogs may be intimidating but it's not to say she can't adjust to life alongside a larger respectful canine companion. Mary can be shy when meeting new people but she is a sweet gal. Although she has not been tested her temperament suggest she would do well in a home with children who can be respectful of her space, giving her time to adjust to her new surroundings. Mary lives on a property where she has been exposed to cats and due to her size could possibly live along a dog savvy cat. She has not been tested but with the appropriate boundaries we expect they could live together in harmony in time. Despite her rough start, Mary has a big heart and loads of potential. With the love and support of her new family, her life is sure to be filled with joy, laughter, and everlasting memories. As a condition of the adoption contract Mary’s new family will be required to attend and complete a basic obedience class at their own cost (proof required). If you’re interested in fostering with the intention of adopting, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Mary's adoption fee is $900. To learn more about our adoption fees and the foster-to-adopt process, please visit our FAQs at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/about-us#about-faqs.
