Story
This dog does not appreciate small children and will require a home without them. He enjoys being the center of attention and will not hesitate to let the household know if he is feeling neglected. He sleeps in his crate, with his blanket. He knows his basic commands. He is described as a one-person dog. He takes a bit to warm up to people so patience is a must. He is small but mighty and a fully fenced yard will be required.

Story
AJ was an owner surrender. The son fell on hard times and left AJ with his parents. The parents wanted to rehome him because they had financial problems of their own and because he was not housetrained. However, we have not had any problems with him going potty in the house. He goes to the door when he wants out. AJ is a very handsome chihuahua weighing 10 pounds. He is an older guy, maybe around 8 years of age. AJ is a very good boy and not a stereotypical chihuahua. He is wary of new people but warms up with time. AJ is crate-trained and well-behaved in the house. He rides well in the vehicle, walks well on a leash, and comes when called. AJ is fairly quiet, he only barks when he wants to come back in the house after he goes outside. He spends most of his time lying on the couch or in his bed. He does like treats and he plays with other small dogs on occasion. He does get bossy and tries to dominate the larger male dogs. One of our large males got mad and cuffed him to put him in his place. So we would recommend that he not be allowed to interact with larger dogs that might hurt him. AJ is fine with other small dogs and would probably also do well with cats. AJ is small and delicate and must be protected from rough treatment by children or big dogs that could hurt him. He must also be protected from raptors and other outdoor predators. AJ must be in the house as a loved member of the family. He must be walked on a leash and would like a fenced yard to sniff and explore. AJ is healthy. He is neutered, fully vaccinated (DAPPvL2, Bordatella, rabies), and microchipped. AJ is heartworm negative and on monthly heartworm and flea prevention. He had a dental and his 4 upper incisors had to be removed. The rest of his teeth were in good shape. AJ had some back problems when we first got him. The vet prescribed a daily anti-inflammatory (Meloxidyl) to help with the pain. AJ is now doing much better and doesn't need his medication every single day. His back problems may have been associated with the stress of a new environment with a lot of other dogs. However, AJ does need dog steps to get on and off furniture and a bit of care when he is picked up to avoid hurting his back. Applicants must be able to afford refills of his medication (which is not expensive) and be able to take him to the vet as needed. We would really love AJ to have a fabulous forever home. His adoption fee includes the cost of ground transport to Kent, Arlington, or Bellingham WA. He is being fostered in Texas and cannot be transported until after he is adopted. Story
Calling all Chihuahua lovers! Dolly is a two-year-old, 12-pound Chihuahua mix seeking her forever home. Do you work from home? This girl will sink into your lap and sit all day with you, and she won’t interrupt you with barking or nuzzles. She might be front and center on video calls, but she stays quiet. So, if you need a work assistant to help keep you calm, focused and warm while working at your computer--Dolly is your girl. If you travel for work that’s great too because she is only 12-pounds, so she’s easy to transport. She jumps into the car and rides well in the passenger seat. She is very loyal and cuddly, especially with her favorite human. She's food motivated, so when treats are involved, she will approach for affection and even jump up for more love. Tasty treats win her over, so even if she doesn’t immediately like a person, a snack can change that. Dolly is a great sleeper and is potty trained. She prefers to play with puppies or just receive all the love and attention herself. She isn’t a fan of large dogs but is easily redirected. Because Chihuahuas are innately territorial and can be a bit touchy, she would do best in a home with older kids. Although she did well sitting in a room with the cats, we don’t think she would enjoy living with them. Dolly likes to roam freely, not preferring the kennel, though crate training is recommended. She is easy on a leash. She will follow you and not yank or pull. Dolly needs a structured home with a knowledgeable handler, and time to decompress and open up. If you can provide the training and love she requires, Dolly will shower you with affection. Apply to adopt this sweet girl today! Why adopt from Three Little Pitties? The stray and animal overpopulation in the Greater Houston area is the highest in the nation. Statistics show that there are over 1 million homeless animals in this region alone. Three Little Pitties Rescue is a nonprofit dog and cat rescue that partners with the community to make a difference. Our mission is to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and saving all breeds of dogs and cats from the streets or animal shelters that oftentimes have no other option but to euthanize animals for space. This dog you’ve found online is lucky to be in our program, and even luckier to have you notice it! Three Little Pitties wants to set you and your new pet up for success! We know our dogs and we work hard to prepare them socially for adoption. We are a network of dedicated people who are heavily invested in seeing our animals thrive. From the moment they are accepted into our program, our Intake, Behavior & Medical teams prepare them for adoption by properly vetting, behaviorally assessing, and providing customized plans depending on the dog’s needs. We provide weekly socialization programs for our dogs through playgroups and group leash training classes available to all dogs in our adoption program, and Doggy Sleepover, Doggy Day Out, and Ambassador programs for our boarding dogs. There is a professional dog trainer on staff to provide support for our fosters and dogs, and an off-site dog trainer for dogs that need more extensive behavior modification. This helps us learn deeply about every dog, prepare them for adoption, and ultimately match them with loving families. We seek to adopt to families who understand that these are rescue dogs and will require continued training efforts, but will be well on their way to being the best dogs that they can be! It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these special perks: • 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion (must register within 24 hours of first vet appt.) • A free private online dog training session with GoodPup plus low pricing for future sessions (approx $25 weekly for an 8 week course of one session per week) • One free bonus toy in every BarkBox when signing up for their Super Chewer subscription plan • 70% off of your first order of Fetch, a PNW based, organic fresh dog food loaf meal subscription plan • Coupons for a fun visit to Petco • Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup! We celebrated our 5 year anniversary this year! Through the combined efforts of all of our hardworking staff and volunteers, we have placed over 12,000 very lucky dogs and cats into amazing homes! By adopting from us, you save TWO lives! The pet you adopt, and you create an opportunity for another animal to be saved in that spot. Together, we can be heroes.
