The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.    The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.  While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs.   It doesn’t stop there! She’s naturally a bit timid at first, but in the sweetest way. She’ll allow interaction and soft affection, and once she feels safe, you can see her confidence slowly bloom. Other dogs are her magic key….around them, she lights up with happiness and excitement, which helps her open up even more with people too! With a canine friend by her side, she becomes braver, brighter, and eager to connect. She’s gentle and respectful with kids, having met two 5 year old girls and handled herself beautifully. She was relaxed around the little humans, but their dino toy made her a little nervous. She’s also met our resident cat and chose to calmly avoid him. Who’s tiny, white, curly and extra fluffy? Well, that’s Oscar for you! Oscar is a great boy who is learning the ways of the world. We estimate him to be about 3 years old. His tiny size comes from his Maltese Chihuahua roots if we’re going off of his good looks. Breed is never guaranteed in rescue— All we can do is guess! Oscar is about 15 pounds of pure lap dog though. Regardless of breed, these dogs are one of a kind. But especially Oscar! Oscar is currently in a loving foster home where he is fostered with other small dogs of his likeness. 7 dogs at that! He is having a great time learning all about toys, treats, and all things good. It’s been a pleasure to see him blossom into a playful little guy. One of his foster siblings is 19 years old, and Oscar makes sure he is gentle with her, never bothering her and taking corrections well. He is so funny— him and his siblings often play musical bowls, sharing their food at each meal time with no issues. They just move from one to the other. Sharing is caring! His Foster says the Oscar is trusted to free Roam in the house and that he sleeps in bed with her at night. What a little cuddle bug! Oscar often finds himself on anything soft like the couch or his cozy dog bed on the floor. He doesn’t mind snuggling up with his new siblings and he’s always sitting on the porch with them enjoying the evening sounds. Oscar isn’t picky, but you can tell that he is so thankful to be saved. We believe Oscar would be best in a home with a yard only because he loves being outside so much. It’s almost like he is enjoying all of the little things that he didn’t get before he came to us. Although we haven’t seen Oscar with kids just yet we do believe the older kids would be best for this guy only because of his timidness. Like we said, he prefers to take things slow and he would he would love a life with a routine and calmness. Gentleness is the best thing about Oscar and he just craves peacefulness. Older kiddos that can understand and respect. His boundaries would be best! We have not seen him with kitties either, but we do believe that Oscar would be all right with a cat only because of his size. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.  While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs.   It doesn’t stop there! She’s naturally a bit timid at first, but in the sweetest way. She’ll allow interaction and soft affection, and once she feels safe, you can see her confidence slowly bloom. Other dogs are her magic key….around them, she lights up with happiness and excitement, which helps her open up even more with people too! With a canine friend by her side, she becomes braver, brighter, and eager to connect. She’s gentle and respectful with kids, having met two 5 year old girls and handled herself beautifully. She was relaxed around the little humans, but their dino toy made her a little nervous. She’s also met our resident cat and chose to calmly avoid him. This cutie is Gizma. She is currently 3 months old and weighs approximately 11.9 pounds. We think they may be a Chihuahua/Terrier mix*, but with rescue it’s a guess! Toto is a tiny senior with absolute Silver Fox, main character energy. This boy is a perfect gentleman with a confident, vibrant presence,the cutest wirey coat and ears that have never missed a beat. Toto is an estimated 9-year-old, 11-lb likely Chihuahua/Terrier mix (rescue rules apply, so we can’t guarantee breed or birthday). What we can guarantee: he’s bringing a joyful, self-assured vibe that’s easy to love and has us absolutely positive that 9 years in small dogs converts to about 3 years old. Science! In his foster home, Toto lives with a whole variety pack of dog friends, all ages and sizes, and he’s doing wonderfully. He’s also fully house trained and crate trained, which is basically the small-dog equivalent of showing up with a fresh new tie, a résumé and references. He is kid-approved, too! Toto met Kobe (age 5) and clicked immediately, totally unbothered by his Spiderman moves and his extreme off-the-couch jumps. If your household includes little humans with big imaginations, Toto’s like, “Cool. Dibs on the front row seat!” When Toto met two big dogs, he handled it like a pro. If they got in his space, he gave a very appropriate “hey, that’s close enough” warning and then carried on calmly. No big feelings, no drama. Just good boundaries from a tiny gentleman to a big bully. With our house cat, Toto was again a perfect gentleman. Granted the cat was bigger than him but he approached respectfully and then wandered off. Whether he was uninterested of playing it cool while fearing for his life, we wouldn't know the difference. Everything about him tells us he would likely do just fine joining a home with a cat though he isn’t looking to be a cats new bestie. Bonus, this is a mild chihuahua- no spice with people at all! He is great meeting with people and leads with a friendly welcoming energy and he doesnt mind being picked up which is an A+ for any small dog lover! All of that and the fact that he is low-key and easy on leash means he si a great candidate for house with a yard or apartment life. Meet Nala! She’s a 1-year-old, 12 lb Pomeranian-mix with a heart of gold and the sweetest disposition. If you’re looking for a perfect pup, she’s your girl. Nala is easy going, loves dogs, all people, and is kid friendly! She loves to be held, walks great on a leash, and is both snuggly and independent. Nala is quick to adjust to new environments and meet new friends. Nala turned one in September and still has some tiny puppy behavior. She likes to chew up a little toy, she sometimes barks at you when she wants to play, and she’s about 75% potty trained (like most stubborn small dogs). Nala will require proof of registration for a puppy training class upon adoption. Nala requires a fenced yard, as she loves meeting new people and will happily run to your neighbors house to greet them! She could also do just fine in an apartment. She enjoys playtime and being goofy. I bet she could be taught tricks! Nala would do fine with cats as well, in fact ideally she’d like some company to spend her days with. Nala has the most beautiful coat that hardly sheds at all! But may require a little grooming from time to time. As well as small dog dental care.
